Website keeps dropping in ranking with no visible penalty.
-
Hi everyone!
I would really appreciate your help on this!
The website URL is: www.gipsydharma.com
It has now been over a year, but we're finding it very difficult to start ranking for any useful keywords. Some keywords like: leather boots / boots for women / handmade clothing at some point went up to page 20, but have now dropped again below page 50. Now, most of our traffic comes from social media so the business is going OK. But the question still remains, what does Google have against the above URL? Its not a super amazing website, but it provides unique and engaging content and has zero spam. I also don't think its over optimized, but I may be wrong on this. Recently, I've also noticed that the Domain Authority has also been going down, it was 46 at some point and now its 40.
There's no visible penalty and all the pre-Penguin links (of which there weren't that many, I think) were cleaned up months ago, without Google suggesting that. There are very few keyword rich backlinks and a lot of them come naturally anyways.
So again, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi Andy, thanks for taking the time to respond. Noted about the video, cheers. I think I followed all best practices throughout the site to the best of my ability. I'm trying to rank the product pages for keywords like: brown leather boots, ankle boots for women, black leather boots and so on. Homepage and all the category pages I'm trying to rank for things like: leather boots, boots for women, handmade boots. For the past couple of months I've not built a single link with keyword rich anchors through.
Usually we get about 40-70K visitors to our website per month just through word of mouth and social media. As for Google, the website has never really ranked high for any keywords other than our brand name.
Please let me know if you have any further suggestions.
Cheers,
Peter

Hi,
Just as a side note, a particular pet hate of mine (and many others) is video playing with audio immediately when you visit a page. If I were in an office and this started, I would be panicking to find it and probably never return.
I can only offer the same suggestions that I do for others in the same boat as yourself here. Without working on a site and spending hours analysing it, it could be any number of factors.
With the phrases you give above as examples, are you trying to get the homepage to rank for them? Have you followed best practices throughout the site? Have you ever ranked highly for the site, or has it always been at this level?

We're currently not using schemas on our website. How important is it? And are websites across the globe using it?
Schemas looks like an important thing when it comes to structuring your website and ensuring the crawl bots get all the details. I've been reading a lot of articles around the web and most of them are saying that schemas are important but very few websites are using it. Why so? Are the schemas on schema.org there to stay or am I wasting my time?

Are links to our website through our affiliate program hurting our rankings?
We have an affiliate program for an educational related course product and I am becoming worried that links to us on our affiliate's websites are hurting our site rankings. I have read that google is usually pretty good about picking up on affiliate links and not giving the follow links credit, but not sure if that is just for the big affiliate networks or if they can spot less obvious affiliate programs. With this in mind, would you ask all affiliates to use the nofollow tag on all links coming in, or would you make sure that the links are more branded in nature? There are a mix of text links along with banners and other display components. There would be editing that would need to be done to the core files of our affiliate/member software (aMember Pro) to make all links nofollow and we want to see if there are other recommendations before doing so. We are trying to fight out way out of what we believe is an over-optimized anchor text penalty and are evaluating all areas that we can make improvements. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Website Survived Last Year Penguin & Panda Updates but dropped Jan 2013?
Hi, I have a website which was gaining good rankings through 2012 and even looked in pretty good shape after all of the Penguin and Panda updates in 2012 but in Jan 2013 the sites rankings have been very poor as it dropped for all terms. It is still in the index and webmaster tools shows the sites keywords but is showing places of 100 or so rather than 10 - 16 in the seeps. The website is www.mywebsitehosting.org Any ideas why this has dropped in January and what can I do to fix it? Thanks. P.s I have made a change to the homepage content but inner pages for the website also dropped to which have the same content as they did a few months ago.

Keyword Ranking Question
I have recently hired a SEO company to help with our keyword. My question is what are the best tools to use to verify what that are reporting. I can do an unpersonalized search, but I am likely still getting the my local results. I have been using the SEOmoz rank tracker in the past but for some reason it is not able to retrieve results over the past day or so. Are there any other good tools to check ranking for an exact url at the for non-localized, non personalized results? Thanks for the suggestions.

Website rebranding, what should I worry about?
Hey guys, A client of mine will be doing a rebranding exercise, this include changing their brand name and their domain name. They are considered a well known brand within their industry (Their brand name shows up in Google's "Search Related to..." section) My question is: Apart from making sure all 301 are put in place, changing all the links to point to the new domain and doing PR exercise, is there anything else I should keep in mind / be aware of to ensure a smooth transition? Also can anyone come up with possible issues we might encounter during the move? Apart from having a significant drop in traffic and rankings? Thanks, Clement
