Alexa Rank
-
Ok, I have a pretty good Alexa Ranking of 159K and have been online for less than a year. What my question is why is my Alexa Ranking so much better than all of my competitors who get way more traffic and have been online for years. The only thing that seems to be going slow is my page rank is still barely .98, while competitors are higher although they have lower Alexa Rank.
What am I doing right to get good Alexa Rank?? What can I do to rais my PR and Domain Rank?
Competitors for example

thanks guys. my bubble just burst :).

Because this is how Alexa gathers data. If even one person goes to your site with the Alexa toolbar installed everyday for a year, while no one has the toolbar installed that goes to your competitors site, then you will have a higher Alexa rank even though your competitor may actually have 100x your traffic. If the toolbar isn't installed, Alexa gathers no data.

Hi,
Alexa has, for purposes of fictional number illustration, let's say one out of 10,000 web users using their toolbar. They then take that data and multiply it by 10,000 and say that represents web traffic in total. With that, they rank sites by estimated total.
They may have some other secret sauce, but that is basically it. So, if you have the tool bar and visit your site as much as you probably do while doing all that work, then it affects your Alexa rank.
It's kind of like why folks filter out your own office's web traffic from one's own Google Analytics data in order to get a clearer picture of pure traffic.
I hope that helps. Best... Mike

not sure i understand what you mean about the tool bar. i have it installed. but are you saying that is why i'm seeing a better rank? the reason i'm concerned with it is obviously it helps with advertising. other businesses see you below 100k and also thought this was an important bench mark. I mean its so many. I thought alexa was the most important to onlookers. I know actual traffic numbers and other more accurate bench marks are better meters, but was still curious how i got this number down so low in 11 months. I see sites out there that have been around for 18 years and still in 2milliion. the one thing i did is pay attention greatly to meta tags, titles, descriptions, duplicate content, things like that. but i want to break the 100k mark just for own satisfaction i guess :). how can i do it ? not to lose focus on the other stuff of course.

why would having the tool bar installed matter??
-
It sounds like real progress after less than a year - congrats!
Alexa Rank is an approximation of site traffic rank based mostly on visits to your site by those with the Alexa toolbar. I've compared sites with very similar traffic and found very different rankings. Just out of curiosity, why do you care what your Alexa Rank is? As the site owner, you know what the actual traffic is vs their very approx ranking.
Google PageRank is another infrequently updated calculation that doesn't mean much, especially with so many other benchmarks available.
Best of luck! .... Mike

Perhaps you and people who frequent your site have the alexa toolbar installed?

The same page ranking twice in the top 10?
Whilst doing a SERP analysis for a particular phrase, i noticed that the same page is ranking twice in the top 10. I've known of the same domain ranking twice with different pages which makes sense but to see the exact same URL ranking twice is a new one for me. Has anyone seen this before too and know of reasons why this would happen?

SERP rankings consistency
I have a website which is showing different serp rankings. On one computer, he's on the first page, on another, he's second page and another person from outside our office sees him ranked differently. What would account for the inconsistency in rankings?

What's causing this site to rank better than another?
As I work on getting a grasp for what causes sites to rank better than others, I'm a bit stumped with two of our competitors. When you search Google for "essay editing" you get these results: 1. Ivyeyesediting.com 2. papercheck.com 3. gradesaver.com 4. scribendi.com 5. essayedge.com When you put these in OSE, it seems crazy that Ivyeyes is anywhere near the top. For example, essayedge creams these guys on EVERY single category. As a new SEO here, what am I missing. This makes absolutely no sense to me. Not only that, it's pretty discouraging seeing essayedge so far down the SERPS with what appears to be some really great numbers. Can anyone shed some light on this?

Why do keyword competition rankings differ between Google and SeoMoz?
I am a novice at keyword ranking etc. so I appreciate your patience! I checked a longtail keyword - how do i get out of this relationship - in Google AdWords and it came back 'low competition.' When I entered it in SeoMoz it came back as 'very competitive.' Any thoughts? I appreciate your help.

How can stale, poor quality sites rank above fresh, high quality sites?
Dear Community, How is it that a Google search for temperature sensors shows the second result as site **A **(http://goo.gl/zRS1L) in a higher positionthan site B (http://goo.gl/3Xy2O) which is on the 2nd page of the SERPs. Site A blatantly does not follow Google's webmaster guidelines and recommendations for design, content or code. Site B scores an 'A' for on page analysis using SEOmoz, it also has a much higher number of root domains in and Moz rank, we have checked that site B has only quality inbound links, and anchor text is natural, it follows Google's guidelines for content and code diligently, and it is on an older domain. We are satisfied that site B has not been penalised by Google, e.g Penguin algorithm updates. We have also done a website verification with Google. Site B has fresher content compared to site A. Site B also has a sitemap yet site A doesn't. We're satisfied that we can rule out the following Algorithm Factors: Penguin algorithm updates Google Notified penalties Dodgy Inbound links Dodgy Anchor text Website verification with Google Fresh vs. static content Sitemap present Server Speed Server location Domain age and about 170 other algorithm factors Does anyone have any ideas as to why site A is ranking higher than site B in Google.co.uk? Thanks in advance. CD.

Question about Keywords & Ranking
I hope this isn't too basic of a question, but I am confused about something. If you use the Keyword Research tool and type in "Stained Concrete Flooring", the 3rd result (stainedconcrete.org) has the lowest numbers of any of the sites in the top 8-10... Is it because they have a large amount of traffic? or is there some other factor that I am missing?

Keyword Ranks reported by SEOMOZ don't match actual searches
SEO Moz reported that various keywords I was tracking were not in the top 50 results on Yahoo or Bing, yet when I did a Yahoo or Bing search for those keywords (from multiple computers and not logged into any Yahoo or MSN/Bing account) I found the keywords easily. What's the scoop?
