Changing URL of posts
-
HI,
I need to change the urls and permalink structure of my blogposts.
How I have to deal all this with google? Do I have to re-submit the pages to google with fetch as google?
Will google display duplicate content of the same article ( having changed the url) or will it automatically replace the old url with the new ones?
Tx for your support guys!
-
OK tx so much!
-
Yes wordpress should do that, it wouldn't hurt to update the urls if you can though
-
OK tx so much.
Also, what happens to the old url i posted on facebook or on the web? do they weill be automatically redirected to the new urls?
-
If your planning on creating new pages (not renaming old) this plugin will help -
-
Go to settings > Permalink > Select what you want.
WordPress will do all the hard work for you and Google will re-crawl your site (this can take time depending on the popularity of your site).
Hope that helps

tx, how can I "implement 301 redirects to the new URLs that i am creating" ?
is it an option i can deal with YOAST?
-
I have wordpress, so I dont need to anything aprat changing the url? google will reflect the changes without dealing with 301 redirects?
-
Hi there,
It also depends on your software if your using word press you can change urls and it would change overtime.
If its different DragonSearch gave some excellent advice to 301 to a new URL. You would not need to tell Google or do Fetch as Google as when it next crawls it would detect the change. If you want to speed up the process you can post the new url into say Google plus etc.
Good luck!

Hi there!
You will need to implement 301 redirects to the new URLs that you are creating. This tells the search engines that the blog post is being permanently redirected to your new URLs. If 301 redirects are not implemented two things can happen:
1. If you kill the old page you will have a whole mess of 404 errors and the authority they old pages built up would be lost and not transferred to the new domains.
2. If you simply create copies of the blog post and do not redirect you will have a lot of duplicate content issues to deal with.
I hope this helps! ^Caitlin

I physically changed my URL and now I have two...How do I get rid of the old one?
Hi, I physically changed my URL as something else and now Google thinks I have two duplicate pages (I know not to do this in the future). e.g. I had www.example.com/i-like-seo.aspx and changed it to: www.example.com/i-love-seo.aspx Google sees this as two pages now and my CMS system is only showing one page (The new page) Also, SEOMOZ is seeing two pages and further more sees them both as having two different amounts of inbound links? When I change content on the new url page, the old url page also updates. I'm really confused as to what has happened here and don't know how to get rid of the old url so that Google doesn't think that I have duplicate content. Any help to what has happened or how to fix it would be so helpful and appreciated. Many thanks.

How can I see the SEO of a URL? I need to know the progress of a specific landing-page of my web. Not a keyword, an url please. Thanks.
I need to know the evolution on SEO of a specific landing-page (an URL) of my web. Not a keyword, a url. Thanks. Muchas gracias)

Spam posts indexed, what to do now?
Hi, So we had a staff problem last week and we let some spam posts (cheap nike jerseys etc.) that also got indexed by Google. (We just checked and there are lik 105 already indexed) Of course we have now removed all these spam posts but what is the best practice at this point? Are we supposed to do something else to remove these from Google's index? (maybe through google webmaster tools?) We have already edited robots.txt to disallow those pages as a quick remedy. And finally, could this have done any harm? We were quite slow noticing these posts to remove them. They were there for about 12 days. thanks

Google News URL Format
Hi, We are currently redesigning our gaming website (www.totallygn.com) and one of our main goals is to get listed by Google News in future. Looking at the Google News URL requirements "The URL for each article must contain a unique number consisting of at least three digits." How does the above affect SEO structure? I was planning on using a format such as www.totallygn.com/xbox-360/360-reviews/fifa-12-review how would this compare to something like? www.totallygn.com/xbox-360/360-reviews/fifa-12-review234 Thanks in advance for your help

URL Structure Question
Hey folks, I have a weird problem and currently no idea how to fix it. We have a lot of pages showing up as duplicates although they are the same page, the only difference is the url structure. They seem to show up like: http://www.example.com/page/ and http://www.example.com/page What would I need to do to force the URLs into one format or the other to avoid having that one page counting as two? The same issue pops up with upper and lower case: http://www.example.com/Page and http://www.example.com/page Is there any solution to this or would I need to forward them with 301s or similar? Thanks, Mike
