Duplicate Content for e-commerce help
-
Hi.
I know I have duplicate content issues and Moz has shown me the issues on ecommerce websites.
However a large number of these issues are for variations of the same product. For example a blue, armani t-shirt can be found on armani page, t-shirt page, armani t-shirt page and it also shows links for the duplicates due to sizing variations.
Is it possible or even worthwhile working on these issues?
Thanks

Thanks.
We have issues with our filter at present (it is Ajax I think) as it doesn't recognise when a variation is out of stock. Which pretty much makes the point of a filter useless.
We need it tweaking which our web team are trying to do.
Thanks

Doing the canonical URL's will help with this.
If your cart system allows this, you could also have the sizing done through javascript as a variable, so that it does not change the URL for the different filters. This way you can still pass the values through for your store, but not have 5 different pages for every product.

They should but its always worth double checking.

I can put a Canonical URL on the product using Yoast. So I presume that all other variants of that product will go to that URL?
-
its a tag that sits on your webpage i'm sure you can get a plugin for Wordpress to do it, Yoast might do it. worst case web dev guy can do it pretty easy.
I also think this one would do the trick but i recommend doing a little research (i dont endorse this particular one) - http://wordpress.org/plugins/all-in-one-seo-pack/

Yeah that was the lines I was going down.
I just wasnt sure if it would be a big issue. The sizes/colours are all under a master product anyway so all point to the same URL.
Will my web guy do this or can I do within Wordpress/Webmaster tools?

Hello,
What you want is rel=canonical tag:
https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/139066?hl=en
http://moz.com/learn/seo/canonicalization
what this will do it tell Google (or other search engines) that the product is a duplicate so what would do is tell Google that the Armani t-shirt is the original and put the tag on the colours pointing back to the Armani t-shirt page. then you won't have duplicates because any value will be passed to the original. The only minor problem is the other won't be indexed but if its just a colour issue this is not normally a problem.
I hope that helps and good luck!
(just edited the links to be links!)

Duplicate Content Product Descriptions - Technical List Supplier Gave Us
Hello, Our supplier gives us a small paragraph and a list of technical features for our product descriptions. My concern is duplicate content. Here's what my current plan is: 1. To write as much unique content (rewriting the paragraph and adding to it) as there is words in the technical description list. Half unique content half duplicate content. 2. To reword the technical descriptions (though this is not always possible) 3. To have a custom H1, Title tag and meta description My question is, is the list of technical specifications going to create a duplicate content issue, i.e. how much unique content has to be on the page for the list that is the same across the internet does not hurt us? Or do we need to rewrite every technical list? Thanks.

Do we get de-indexed for changing some content and tags frequently? What is the scope in 2017?
Hi all, We are making some changes in our website content at some paragraphs and tags with our main keywords. I'm just wondering if this is going to make us de indexed from Google? Because we recently dropped in rankings when we added some new content; so I am worried whether there are any chances it will turn more risky when we try to make anymore changes like changing the content. There are actually many reasons a website gets de indexed from Google but we don't employ any such black hat techniques. Our website got a reputation with thousands of direct traffic and organic search. However I am curious to know what are the chances of getting de indexed as per the new trends at Google? Thanks

More or Less pages helps in SEO?
Hi all, I have gone through some articles where less pages are suggested and they claim that they will be favoured by Google. I'm not sure as with limited pages, we can only target limited keywords. There might be threat from Google in-terms of doorway pages for more pages. But one of our competitor has many pages like dedicated page for every keyword. And their website ranks high and good for all keywords. I can see three pages created with differnet phrases for same on keyword. If less pages are good, how come this works for our competitor? Thanks

Duplicate categories how to make sure I don't get penalized for this
Hi there How would I go about fixing duplicate categories? My products sell in multiple category areas and some overlap the other - how can I go about making sure that I don't get penalised for this? Each category and content is unique but my advisors offer different tools and insights.

Indexing content behind a login
Hi, I manage a website within the pharmaceutical industry where only healthcare professionals are allowed to access the content. For this reason most of the content is behind a login. My challenge is that we have a massive amount of interesting and unique content available on the site and I want the healthcare professionals to find this via Google! At the moment if a user tries to access this content they are prompted to register / login. My question is that if I look for the Google Bot user agent and allow this to access and index the content will this be classed as cloaking? I'm assuming that it will. If so, how can I get around this? We have a number of open landing pages but we're limited to what indexable content we can have on these pages! I look forward to all of your suggestions as I'm struggling for ideas now! Thanks Steve

Duplicate content showing on local pages
I have several pages which are showing duplicate content on my site for web design. As its a very competitive market I had create some local pages so I rank high if someone is searching locally i.e web design birmingham, web design tamworth etc.. http://www.cocoonfxmedia.co.uk/web-design.html http://www.cocoonfxmedia.co.uk/web-design-tamworth.html http://www.cocoonfxmedia.co.uk/web-design-lichfield.html I am trying to work out what is the best way reduce the duplicate content. What would be the best way to remove the duplicate content? 1. 301 redirect (will I lose the existing page) to my main web design page with the geographic areas mentioned. 2. Re write the wording on each page and make it unique? Any assistance is much appreciated.

Help! Why are my rankings down?
Hi, Over the last couple of days I have found a HUGE drop in traffic. I checked a lot of our rankings, and we are definitely out of the game for at least a few keywords (not on 1st page). Our ranking has dropped on other keywords. We even dropped to #2 (for the first time ever) for our branded keyword search term. What happened?! Could it have been the Penguin update, 1 month after it was released? Help!

What does Youtube Consider Duplicate content and will it effect my ranking/traffic?
What does youtube consider duplicated content? If I have a power point type video that I already have on youtube and I want to change the beginning and end call to action, would that be considered duplicate content? If yes then how would this effect my ranking/youtube page. Will it make a difference if I have it embedded on my blog?
