Open Site Explorer Question

Hello Mozers. It has been a while
OK - I run an open site explorer report, toggle over to 'Linking Domains' because I am more interested in the number of actual websites that link to my client rather than the number of links my client has (and of course what websites are linking) and although I have been doing this for years there is one little thing I am a bit confused about.
The report shows (from left to right) the 'Linking Root Domain", the "Domain Authority" for the linking domain and then the 'Number of Linking Root Domains" for each 'Linking Root Domain" My question is (rather stupid, I am sure) is the number of linking root domains for each linking root domain the number of websites linking to them OR the number of websites to which they link?

Great question and I've dug into this myself in the past.
So that it made sense to me, what I did was this...
I took one of the root domains from my initial report (in your example: your clients site) and ran it through OSE to see how many "Established Links" it had. I would then go to the section that shows the number of "Established Links" (then hover over "Root Domains"). This number should be consistent with the number of "Linking Root Domains" from the previous report you ran on your clients website.
After tracing this back, I came to the conclusion that the "Linking Root Domains" are defined as: The Number of unique root domains (e.g., *.example.com) containing at least one linking page to this URL.
I hope I explained this in a way that is understandable. If not please let me know and I will try to revise my response. Hope this helps you understand.

Question about link report
Hey all, SEO noob here, back with another question. I downloaded a link report, and I don't understand the columns Links to Page, Outbound Domains from Page, and Outbound Links from Page. Is Links to Page the number of links from the source page to the target page? Is Outbound Domains from Page the number of domains linked to by the source page? Is Outbound Links from Page the number of outbound links to any domain or page from the source page? Thanks in advance! AK

Drop in Domain Authority across 20 sites
Hi I monitor and track 20-25 sites. I got a -1 in DA across the board this month. Has anyone else experienced this. It's possible my server/cms guys have made a global change. Has anyone at Moz or anyone in the community experienced this?

How Do You Deal With Duplicate Content On A Retail Site
Hi Guys We make custom portfolios and boxes and every time we have a Moz site crawl, Rogerbot always returns a number of Duplicate Content Issues relating to different products. As per the image below (which I hope is visible?!) Rogerbot has flagged duplicate content onto one product that relates to 5 other different products. For instance there is duplicate content for an A4 Leather Portfolio and an A3 Leather Portfolio and an 11"x17" Leather Portfolio. I can't redirect or canonicalise to just the A4 Portfolio as they are all individually different products. The information on each page although similar, is relevant to each of the products, so rewriting a different blurb on each product page, will not be user friendly for our customers. I could ignore the duplicate content issues, but then that isn't good practise (and also makes for a very unsatisfactory looking Dashboard!) Any ideas?? Nick wzQLgBl

Spam Score and crawling of my site
Hello, I'm trying to analyze the spam score of my site which is 9/17 Actually I have few backlinks and all of them have a low spam score (max 4/17, just one). I think there's some kind of issue with the crawler since I get strange spam factors: Large Site with Few Links (likely true, I recently deleted a lot of tags used once) Low Number of Pages Found (wasn't it a "Large Site"??) Low Number of Internal Links (I got a considerable number) No Contact Info (I have a link to my facebook in the menu and a "contacts" page) Thin Content (It's just a blog with min 300 words per post, why thin?) Site Link Diversity is Low (likely true) Ratio of Followed to Nofollowed Subdomains (likely true) Low MozTrust or MozRank Score (true) Ratio of Followed to Nofollowed Domains (likely true) Can you please help me to understand it, is it a crawling problem or similar? Open site explorer: error message "There was an error getting your data"
I"m trying out MOZ, wanting to make an informed decision (for myself and my blogging students) whether this is a useful program to buy and use. I've had no luck so far with the Open Site Explorer. Each time I try, I get the same error message, "There was an error getting your data". I used the URL: http://writetodone.com I asked about the problem in the chat, but my question was posed over an hour ago and is still marked 'unread'... I"m keen to continue studying the program as I'm creating a video about MOZ. How can I make the Open Site Explorer work? I've tried the Analytics module but it seems to take some days to get results. Why do my spammy backlinks still appear on my Open Site Explorer page after removal?
I used the organic spam backlink removal tactic of emailing owners of sites of spam rank 7 or higher on my page. It has been weeks since many of the harmful links were removed, yet they remain listed on my Open site Explorer page. My fear is that somehow simply getting these links removed doesn't exempt me from the potential to be penalized by Google crawlers. Does it take longer than a few weeks for these links to disappear from the Open Site Explorer, or is there something else I need to be doing? Any and all advice appreciated. Ben

Open Site Explorer
Confused by the results displayed in Open Site Explorer. Want to know the Total Links into a site. As such typed in the site address and received the result 28 Total Links from 1 Root Domain. Filter Set to This Page. Therefore, changed the filter to **Pages on This Root Domain. **All other filters set to All (i.e. internal and external links). I would assume this should give me ALL LINKS coming into all pages. I received results of 79 Total Links from 28 root domains. Raven and other tools advise a Total number of links in excess of 2,000. External Backlinks 200+. I have experienced this problem on a number of sites over the past month, in what way am I interpreting the data incorrectly? Why is there such disparity? Please advise.
