Hey,
There's been a few threads on here about Updowner, but most are about folks trying to block them so they don't push up their backlinks. The good news is, G ignores them anyway. It looks like your HTML template contains code that verifies site ownership with Updowner, which might be used to block Updowner from indexing/creating hundreds of links to the site.
I'm not 100% on this, but seeing as no one else has weighed in. I believe the previous site owner has verified that they're the owner of those sites with Updowner. You'd usually do this to block their robots. Excerpt included below:
To register, you have to add a meta tag to your index page or you can just upload a verification file, which is easiest. It’s just like verifying for Google Webmaster Tools. Download the 55 byte file and upload it to your site’s main directory. So, for me, it’s public_html/theseonewsblog. For you it may be www/yourdomain or public_html/yourdomain. (Some folks prefer to use the www directory. Makes no difference.)
Once you’ve done that, then plug in your domain at UpDowner and verify your account.
At the top of that page, there is a link that says, “Block Site,” and when you click it, UpDowner will not list your site. I’m hoping that means they’ll delete the links they’ve placed pointing to us, too, but well… time will tell.
Google ignores Updowner links anyway. but if I were you I'd probably remove that code.

How to get rid of bot verification errors
I have a client who sells highly technical products and has lots and lots (a couple of hundred) pdf datasheets that can be downloaded from their website. But in order to download a datasheet, a user has to register on the site. Once they are registered, they can download whatever they want (I know this isn't a good idea but this wasn't set up by us and is historical). On doing a Moz crawl of the site, it came up with a couple of hundred 401 errors. When I investigated, they are all pages where there is a button to click through to get one of these downloads. The Moz error report calls the error "Bot verification". My questions are:

Are these really errors?
If so, what can I do to fix them?
If not, can I just tell Moz to ignore them or will this cause bigger problems?0 -
Webmaster Tools Verification Problem
Hello, Somehow a website I'm working on has lost it's verification in Webmaster Tools. I have absolutely no clue why... The Google Analytics code is still working, the verification meta tag is in place, both are not working. I get an error message about Google not being able to connect to the server. I asked about any possible changes to server settings or stuff about that, but apparently nothing has changed there. The URL in question is Bivolino.com Does someone has any other ideas what I could be looking for. Thanks, Kind regards, Erik

When choosing GWT preferred domain its asking for re-verification?
Trying to set a preferred domain in GWT, and the site is verified via Google Analytics and meta tag in the code, but still asks: Part of the process of setting a preferred domain is to verify that you own http://site.org/. Please verify http://site.org/. Tried looking for answer to no avail, am I missing anything?

Site verification in WMT
Hello all, I have a site and I want to set a preferred domain but when I do it says I need to verify my site but it gives me no ideas how to do that. I know that normally you have to do it when you set the account up but I had an analytics account for this domain first then just logged on with those details and I was in with no verification process. Cheers

We're working on a site that is a beer company. Because it is required to have an age verification page, how should we best redirect the bots (useragents) to the actual homepage (thus skipping ahead of the age verification without allowing all browsers)?
This question is about useragents and alcohol sites that have an age verification screen upon landing on the site.

Backtracking from verification meta tag to the correct Google account is difficult
A Google verification meta tag was created and implemented on a site that I am now responsible for (I took over an SEO project after a long lapse), but no one seems to know what Google account was used to create the meta tag in the first place. I'm finding it very difficult to backtrack from verification meta tag to the Google account, and all the online help is for those having trouble moving forward with the verification. Any suggestions or advice?

Optimizing an Age Verification Alcohol Site
Is there SEO value from investing in keyword optimizing all pages of an alcohol product web site that requires age verification to enter? Would Google index and display the pages that live after the age verification page for targeted keyword searches? If if you go directly to an interior page URL, the site would still require age verification before showing you the page content. For example: <cite>www.jackdaniels.com/tennesseewhiskey/</cite> Any advice or insight based on experience with an alcohol site would be much appreciated. Thanks!
