Penguin 3.0 hit caused by Pinterest?
-
I've read the FAQs and searched the help center. My URL is: http://www.weplann.comHello there,Since 10/24 we've seen a critical impact in organic results in our site. At first, only taking a look at the date of when it all started made us think about a Penguin 3.0 hit and then we went to take a look at our linking data to find we had more than 14,000 links from Pinterest (significantly more than any other source). Then, another thing that made us think about that dramatic organic drop is the anchor text: an exact match (www.weplann.com) is at #1 in our anchor text ranking but we're not 100% sure if this could affect our organic results because of the Penguin update. So our questions are:- A lot of Pinterest links could affect dramatically our organic results (understanding that Google may find that huge difference between linking sources as a bad practice)?- The anchor text exact match could really affect our ranking? If none of this points could cause that drop, then what would be causing it? We're sure it has to do with the Penguin update.Thank you very much in advance for your help!!

To my knowledge, Pinterest is a very high quality linking source. Having several links back and forth should mean that you have an equal amount of images, products and/or pages. No matter how good the source is, when you over use something it doesn't look natural.
From what I understand, Penguin 3.0 really targeted linking "neighborhoods". This means that you could see an effect because of link associations that your linking sources have. That could be Pinterest, but my gut tells me that it is probably some other source. These social media sites are pretty safe and usually have ways to prevent bad associations.
Have you used Open Site Explorer to compare what you have in GWT? I would just take a look and see what the quality of your links are and if there is any low hanging fruit you should disavow. You want to find high quality linking sources, these are the safest. I would try to eliminate links from low ranking domains with not a lot of root links behind them.
You might be suffering the effects of someone else's bad links. Have you received any manual notices in GWT?

Large number of links form Pinterest
Could unusually large number of links from Pinterest cause issues? Would Google categorise them as spammy links or site wide links? I have a small site with Urls around 800-1000. But webmaster shows 5321 links from Pinterest.com and 1467 from Pinterest.se. Please see attachment. ffNLF

Company name causing Google penalty?
Hi all, Once of my clients has a keyword as part of their company name, and it seems like the website is being given a penalty in the keyword SERP because of the amount of websites linking back using the company name? Is there anything i can do to prevent/balance this out? Thanks, Anthony

Do you know a case where product variations caused panda?
Would like to add 300 products to ecommerce site of which 150 products are just variations in different colors. In this particular case there are some reaons for: Not writing partially unique product descriptions for each product variation Not setting them up as variations on one product page So I would have several product pages with nearly identical product descriptions (proprietary description written by us), just name of color in title and description and EAN in description being different, as well as over time different user generated content showing up. Also different product images used. I would not mind if google would not index some product variations. Do you think I should be concerned about Panda? Do you know any website which had a Panda problem caused by product variations? Thanks

Does opening a page with target=_blank cause bounce?
Hi, When I open an internal page with target=_blank (for example taking people from our store to our blog) it may cause a session timeout on the store page (assuming they stay on the blog and don't come back). Does that cause a bounce? Does that mean that the store's page just became the "Exit" page? Thanks

Penguin recovery - Any suggestions?
Hey Guys. To be honest i havent heard about any case of penguin recovery yet except from the famous WMPU revocery (if u ask me it dosent count really) Any way I own a few sites.. that got hit by Penguin. I did remove 90% of the "suspected as bad links" and apply to google reconsideration. in return i got an answer after a few days from google saying :"We reviewed your site and found no manual actions by the webspam team that might affect your site's ranking in Google. There's no need to file a reconsideration request for your site, because any ranking issues you may be experiencing are not related to a manual action taken by the webspam team.... and so on" So what they saying is that the engine still think that your links are spammy.. what should i do?? i truy removed most of the links but homepage isnt really showing any progress.. he is just no where.. Idaes? Case Studies?

Hit by Penguin, Can I move the content from the old site to a new domain and start again with the same content which is high quality
I need some advice please. My website got the unnatural links detected message and was hit by penguin.. hard. Can I move the content from the current domain to a new domain and start again or does the content need to be redone also. I will obviously turn of the old domain once its moved. The other option is to try and identify the bad links and change my anchor profile which is a hit and miss task in my opinion. Would it not be easier just to identify the good links pointing to the old domain and get those changed to point to the new domain with better anchors. thanks Warren

I wonder if any of you guys could take a look and offer any suggestions as to what might have happened? I'm relatively new to SEO and have worked on my own site myself? If I've made some mistakes how do I fix it?
