What are the best ways to increase a website's page rank and domain authority?
-
Hi
Easy answer: get relevant links to your website.
But its slightly harder than that. First of all read: http://moz.com/community/q/how-to-increase-domain-authority
You want to find relevant and influential people in your industry and link to your content and share your content. (Followerwonk) is a great tool for this.
I would worry less about the DA of the website you are getting a link from, and more about the relevancy of the link.
Image if Google didn't exist. You would want links on the web that drove potential customers to your site, not on high DA sites that are not important, so if you think like this - you don't need to worry about potential algorithm updates.
If you want people to link to your site, you have to give them a reason to, so you need something on your site worth linking to, whether that is a blog article, infographic, etc.
Hope this is helpful, its the basics of what you need to do, and there are a lot of tactics for link building, but just make sure they are genuine long term strategy and not short term wins.
Things to not do for link building:
- Ignore directories (yes you can potentially get a good relevant link, but there are a lot of pitfalls that aren't worth the risk)
- Ignore all the emails from India etc (sorry, there is too much spam that comes from there, there are probably some very good services from India, but there are more than would cause you harm)
- Anyone claiming to get you to get you number 1
- Link farms

Thanks

Display:None CSS & SEO
Hi A while back I was told that using the display:none tag to hide content you want minimised is bad for onpage SEO - is this the case? It's not that we want to hide it from Google, we just don't want it taking up a huge amount of space on product pages. I have found some of these on our site, and want to know how bad they are. Is the content under the tag going to be ignored? Thank you

Product Schema & Google Guidelines
Hi We have product mark up on our site, data-vocab rather than schema. I can't see it showing in Google SERPs, but when testing it appears to be correct. Are Google still selective with what schema they show for a site? Thanks

Getting into Google News, URL's & Sitemaps
Hello, I know that one of the 'technical requirements' to get into google news is that the URL's have unique numbers at the end, BUT, that requirement can be circumvented if you have a Google News Sitemap. I've purchased the Yoast Google News Sitemap (https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/news-seo/) BUT just found out that you cannot submit a google news Sitemap until you are accepted into google news. Thus, my question is that do you need to add the digits to the URL's temporarily until you get in and can submit a google news sitemap, OR, is it ok to apply without them and take care of the sitemap after you get in. If anyone has any other tips about getting into Google News that would be great! Thanks!

Penguin & Panda: Geographic Penalities?
Has anyone ever come across information about a website appearing strongly in SERP's in one region, but poorly in another? (ie: great in Europe, not so great in N. America) If so, perhaps it is a Panda or Penguin issue?

PRweb & PRnewswire
Hi Guys, Looking for thoughts on press release websites in terms of link value. Recent press releases on both these sites have recently appeared in OSE with DA's of 93/98 and PA's of 47/48 - great stuff. Given we can control anchor text and include links these are great opportunities to combine anchor text vs branded links, include citation and co-citations all from within the main body of the release too depending on the PR package you subscribe to. So are these link opps as valuable as they appear or could they be devalued based on the fact they are sat on these PR sites? Might Google view them as no more important than links from ezinearticles? Are they frowned on even more as they might be considered paid links? Further to this, if they aren't as high value as their DA/PA suggests then might an extra filter in OSE to account for this be useful? Interested to hear your thoughts

Do different meta titles & descriptions delete the canonical origin?
Hi, hopefully anyone knows something about this case: There is a canonical tag on site "www.xyz.com**/de_de/" **refering to site "www.xyz.com/de-de/". If the meta title and descriptions are different on both sides - is there a problem that google will not pay attention to the canonical tag? Do both sides need the same title and canonical? Thanx for your answers! Cheers Heiko!

How do I reduce internal links & cannibalisation from primiary navigation?
SEOmoz tools is reporting each page on our site containing in excess of 200 internal links mostly from our primary navigation menu which it says is too many. This also causes cannibalization on the word towels which i would like to avoid if possible. Is there a way to reduce the number of internal links whilst maintaining a good structure to allow link juice to filter through the site and also reduce cannibalization?
