      Hello,

      Getting a lot of duplicate title and meta description errors via google webmaster tools.

      For best SEO practices, do i no-index the page/2's, page/3's...?

      More importantly, i see how MOZ did it by adding "page 3" to their titles such as http://moz.com/blog?page=3.  Is that a better way of doing it?  If so, how do i do that on Yoast SEO?

      Thank you so much!

        That's a slick piece of code but fortunately this is no longer an issue for titles of paginated posts when running the Yoast plugin.  The paginated pages say Page "#" of "total pages #".

          Hi there.

          Here is a code solution - it adds " - Page: X" where X is a number of page. Add it to functions.php file of wordpress:

          <code>php # -*- coding: utf-8 -*-/**
           * Plugin Name: T5 Add page number to title
           * Description: Adds ` | Page $number` to the page title.
           * License:     MIT
           * License URI: http://www.opensource.org/licenses/mit-license.php
           */if(! function_exists('t5_add_page_number')){function t5_add_page_number( $s ){global $page; $paged = get_query_var('paged')? get_query_var('paged'):1;! empty ( $page )&&1< $page && $paged = $page; $paged >1&& $s .=' | '. sprintf( __('Page: %s'), $paged );return $s;} add_filter('wp_title','t5_add_page_number',100,1); add_filter('wpseo_metadesc','t5_add_page_number',100,1);}</code>

            I did in my answer above.

            If you want to totally solve it, also add a canonical to lead to a page that has ALL your posts shown. (Done manually, not through yoast)

              Shakur,

              Thank you.  Is there a way to implement those tactics via Yoast SEO?

              I made a post for it here as well:

                You can just noindex those sub pages in Yoast under Titles and Metas

                  Hi there,

                  There are a lot of options, but there's serious danger in using the wrong structures.

                  Take a look on this post, it may help you http://moz.com/blog/pagination-best-practices-for-seo-user-experience

                    Description vs meta description

                    I have an e-commerce website and am trying to create product category pages. I am under the impression that Description is the text that would appear under the title on a google search and I believe the meta description is just what google reads? Is having BOTH important or just description? Is it ok to duplicate the description for the meta description? I know its not good to duplicate descriptions on other products and pages.

                    Wrong titles in site links

                    Hello fellow marketers, I have found this weird thing with our website in the organic results. The sitelinks in the SERP shows wrong written text. As in grammatically incorrect text. My question is where does Google get the text from? It is not the page title as we can see it. kKsFv0X.png

                    Is a different location in page title, h1 title, and meta description enough to avoid Duplicate Content concern?

                    I have a dynamic website which will have location-based internal pages that will have a <title>and <h1> title, and meta description tag that will include the subregion of a city.  Each page also will have an 'info' section describing the generic product/service offered which will also include the name of the subregion.  The 'specific product/service content will be dynamic but in some cases will be almost identical--ie subregion A may sometimes have the same specific content result as subregion B.  Will the difference of just the location put in each of the above tags be enough for me to avoid a Duplicate Content concern?</p></title>

                    Meta Keywords: Should we use them or not?

                    I am working through our site and see that meta keywords are being used heavily and unnecessarily. Each of our info pages will have 2 or 3 keyword phrases built into them. Should we just duplicate the keyword phrases into the meta keyword field, should put in additional keywords beyond or not use it at all? Thoughts and opinions appreciated

                    Does rel=canonical fix duplicate page titles?

                    I implemented rel=canonical on our pages which helped a lot, but my latest Moz crawl is still showing lots of duplicate page titles (2,000+). There are other ways to get to this page (depending on what feature you clicked, it will have a different URL) but will have the same page title. Does having rel=canonical in place fix the duplicate page title problem, or do I need to change something else? I was under the impression that the canonical tag would address this by telling the crawler which URL was the URL and the crawler would only use that one for the page title.

                    How to auto generate a unique meta description?

                    The site I am working on is a code nightmare for starters. I'm editing a file called layout that controls the section of each page. The programmer from a while back got unique titles by putting this piece of code in: <title><?= $this->metaTag ?></title> In all the different controllers and stuff I can see where the title is the name of the product plus review or something to that effect. How do I do this for the meta description? Right now the meta description is static in the layout file, and so every page has an identical one. I was hoping there was a way to make the meta description automatically use the first 140 characters on the page or something. Something like this:

                    Some viagra spammer somehow fooled Google into thinking the title and description metatags of a site pointing to me are about viagra. How did they do that? How do I fix this?

                    In performing a link: to my site, I found this: Video Of People Using Viagra - Online Drug Store, Guaranteed Shipping <cite>www.planetherbs.com/affiliate-program.html</cite> - Cached -Block all www.planetherbs.com results1 day ago – Video Of People Using Viagra. Online Drug Store, Guaranteed Shipping. Check Order Status. Natural and healthy products! If you go to that url, you will see it's just an affiliate program page. Some viagra spammer somehow changed the title and description metatags that google sees (not actually) and links from what appears to be spammy pages are pointing to me. I don't want to get dinged for this. How do I fix these for myself and planetherbs.com? And how did the spammer do this???

                    Why should your title and H1 tag be different?

                    Is it dangerous to have your H1 tag and your title the exact same thing?  My thought was that it's not be the best use of space, but that it couldn't cause harm. What do you think?
