Do 302 temporary redirect harm?
-
Hi,
It shows that there are thousands of Pages with Temporary Redirect in the moz report on our site as medium priority. How hard do they affect the site's seo performance?
Thanks for any advice
-
Hi,
Thanks for the info above. I've checked the report in MOZ again. Among the thousands of medium priorities many of them are false alarm as they don't have redirect at all when I test. Many of them are 404 (not found) redirects when page/url no long exist.
here is what google says about 404 (not found) redirect:
https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/2409439?ctx=MCE&ctx=NF
It says it's normal and do not harm the seo performance. Do I just ignore the according alarm?
Thanks

You can also solve this by making the account and log in sections not crawled in your robots.txt.

I think a 302 should be OK in this instance, but you may want to wait for a response from a more technically minded Mozzer. However, if there are thousands of 302s, I imagine there are quite a few others that will need looking at.

Sorry if I didnt explained it clear. When a visitor click on the account page without login they will be redirect 302 to login page to input their login detail. I've seen lots of site using 302 redirect on this.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean, but if you want to redirect a visitor permanently you should be using a 301.
-
Hi,
Thanks. How about a 302 redirect to login when visitor click to view the account profile? Do it harm too?
-
A 302 redirect is a temporary redirect and should only be used if you want to redirect your site visitors to another page for a short period time. Ultimately, you will remove the 302 once it has served its purpose. As this is only a temporary redirect, it will not pass its 'link juice' to the target page as Google thinks you'll be removing it after so long.
If you plan on removing these 302s in the near future, then it should be fine. However, if you're wanting customers to be redirected permanently then you should change these to 301 redirects.
Also, if you have tons of redirects it could affect your site's speed/performance.
Thousands of 302 redirects doesn't sound quite right, though, so I'd pull all of the 302s, review them and see which ones need removing or changing to 301s.

Do you get link equity from a redirect service?
When using a redirect service, do you get link equity from the redirect service or only from the linking website? Using opensite explorer in Moz, always shows me directory and redirect services as most important contribution for the domain authority. But I'm questioning if this is true. P.S. I'm not asking if link equity is passed from the linking website. That question has been answered many many many times. (hint: the answer is yes). H58xHAl.png pGH7e48.png

Fixing temporary redirects
Hi all, I recently had an issue whereby the Moz crawl was showing up thousands of instances of duplicate content. I solved (or so I thought) this issue on a Magento-based eCommerce website by enabling canonical URL tagging on product pages and category landing pages. This reduced the instances of duplicate content dramatically (by the thousands!) however it created a new issue of thousands of temporary redirects. All of the research I have done has suggested that I should be setting these as permanent redirects somehow, but I am not sure how to do this or how to resolve this issue. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much. Josh

Temporary Redirects
Hi, I've noticed that most of my temporary redirects are the cause of this parameter. http://www.maddenstudents.com/forum/search.php**?s=2f0b01c7d530cf117a2bbb6811f0b527**&do=finduser&userid=1&contenttype=vBForum_Post&showposts=1 http://www.maddenstudents.com/forum/search.php**?s=2f0b01c7d530cf117a2bbb6811f0b527**&do=finduser&userid=1&searchthreadid=15&contenttype=vBForum_Post&showposts=1 I also noticed that almost all of my duplicate content and duplicate titles are the cause of this parameter. I tried going into google webmasters, but they say i don't need to change anything. How do I get rid of this parameter because it seems to be causing a lot of errors and warning for me.

301 redirect question from a newb
So, I've been blogging for almost 3 years now. I've always used wordpress, but recently changed from a ProPhoto theme to a Woo Theme (Editorial...don't know if that matters). I've signed up for the SEOmoz website and HOLY CROW I have problems with my website out the wazoo. I am tackling issues one at a time and one of my issues seems to be 301 redirects. If you'd like to see a screen shot of the crawl diagnostics, check it out the attachment. If you'd like screen shots of anything else, just let me know. I'm not sure I'm reading the chart right, but it seems to say that all of my redirecting problems are because my links are redirecting from an http://www..... to a http://http://www... I've been in my wordpress blog post back end and can't seem to figure out how they A. Got like this. and B how to fix it. If I'm reading the chart wrong...definitely let me know. Thank you guys so much in advance! Screen%20Shot%202012-01-01%20at%202.28.19%20PM.png

Impact of 301-redirected domains on OSE Metrics
When looking at the OSE metrics (DA, PA, Number Linking RDs etc.) is it purely based on OSEs evaluation of the specific domain or will it take into account links that have been 301-redirected to the domain?

Does SEOMoz have a tool that allows me to see backlinks to a specific URL sans redirected URLs? So, URL is www.website.com/search. www.website.com redirects to www.website.com/search and I want to see how many people have linked to the /search, the resulting URL. Thanks for any help! Erin
