What is the best way to analyze all of the outgoing links from a website to determine which links are not beneficial?

I've recently been tasked with the SEO on an old site that was ranking somewhere on page two for desirable keyword phrases. The site was taken completely offline for a few months and started ranking on page one for the same desirable keyword phrases. The site has a lot of link partners and I think that some of the links from the site are going to undesirable pages and I'm looking for the best way to get rid of the links that are hurting the sites rankings.

lol well that would be a niche where you'll get some link troubles. But yes you're right it's very likely that some of those outgoing links are causing the issue. Any site that is spammy or in a spammy neighbourhood needs to be removed. Do you really need to keep any of them? Reciprocal links really don't do a lot for you anyway.

Unless it really got an enormous boost just from having only incoming links for a couple months, the only other reason for the drop is if the site is being penalized in the rankings for linking to undesirable sites.
The only thing is... none of the links are obviously "more bad" than any of the others. They all seem pretty iffy, but the adult industry is mostly shady anyway, and it's just difficult to tell with some of these.
Also, this is more of a favor so I don't want to spend an enormous amount of time checking things.

It's an adult site and I'd rather not share the link, actually. It's difficult to get links of any kind with that type of content, but there have been many reciprocal and three-way link exchanges in the past. There are literally dozens of links, but none of them seem to be from link farms. A couple from shady directories, but not farms.

I would utilize Open Site Explorer and spend some time evaluating each link. (unless you have 1,000's of them).
Make sure none of them are spammy sites with low MozTrust and keep only the ones that are relevant to your site.
And since you mentioned link partners, I would also evaluate all the incoming links. Interesting how when the site was taken down for a couple of months it actually jumped up in rankings. Sounds like this happened because some bad links where removed.

When you say it has a lot of link partners, do you mean it has swapped links with a bunch of link farms?
Can you share the site address, I reckon it will be easy to spot which ones to keep and which to get rid of.... keep the ones to relevant content for a start

Is there a tool on Moz or out on the internet that does bad link checker
I'm still pretty new to this and I was wondering if there is a free software, one of Moz or free out on the the internet that allows you to check bad links. I've done a lot of link building with citations and directories that for my clients industry. I just don't want to add their website and profile to a bad/risky directory and it penalizes my clients. What's the best way to eliminate "429 : Received HTTP status 429" errors?
My company website is built on WordPress. It receives very few crawl errors, but it do regularly receive a few (typically 1-2 per crawl) "429 : Received HTTP status 429" errors through Moz. Based on my research, my understand is that my server is essentially telling Moz to cool it with the requests. That means it could be doing the same for search engines' bots and even visitors, right? This creates two questions for me, which I would greatly appreciate your help with: Are "429 : Received HTTP status 429" errors harmful for my SEO? I imagine the answer is "yes" because Moz flags them as high priority issues in my crawl report. What can I do to eliminate "429 : Received HTTP status 429" errors? Moz & Xenu Link Sleuth unable to crawl a website (403 error)
It could be that I am missing something really obvious however we are getting the following error when we try to use the Moz tool on a client website. Sudden increase in on-page links
Within one week, the site crawl shows my on-page links going from ~10 to ~100+ Does anyone know of a rational reason for this? Sucuri shows my site is clean, so I don't think it's a hack. 10 seems too low to begin with anyway. Any ideas? Thanks 🙂

Broken links in the pdf of the On Page Report
Hi, I run an individual On Page report for a particular URL, then I export as pdf. The URL appears in the pdf and looks fine but when you click on it it goes to a 'page not found'. I know the URL is correct. When I hover over the URL in the pdf i notice that the word 'Good' is at the end of my URL but I did not put this in there. if I give the report to a client it doesn't look so good. http://www.narellanpools.com.au/local-contact/narellan-pools-alburywodongaGood Is this a bug? I have the most boring copier service website, clients cool, concept is really boring; Well I am looking to generate this client some link back juice, cause this guy is struggling for traffic, and I am am struggling to generate a buzz about copier services?? Keyword Difficulty Tool - How to use it the best way?
Hi, I am freshman, both, here on SEOmoz and in SEO generally and have a question concerning the assessment of KW difficulty. I did browse through the Q&A-Section (great content!!) but could not find a relevant answer to my problem. So I am currently building my initial keyword list, our website is only 2 months old, so we are still in the very early stage. Fashion is a very competitive area, so the KW Diff. Tool indicates high difficulty for a lot of words and phrases. however, I identified some with percentages <50 or even lower than that. Then I compared the results of the SEOmoz tool to Google Adwards and the Google results for competitiveness differed significantly. For example: for the KW Personal Shopping I got KWD from Seomoz 33% (in Germany) and from Google 0,5 for broad and 0,64 for exact search. I am quite confused how to make the right choices for my KWs now. Which metrics should I consider most? What else apart from the competition factor is behind the metric KW diff.? Does it matter in any way that I search from Germany for Germany in German? Do you have any further recommendations for the process of identifying the best Kws?
