Homepage ranks worse than subpages
-
My homepage (www.mach7t.com) is optimized for "enterprise imaging solutions", but only ranks #55 in Google. The rest of my subpages rank much better than that for their respective keywords, many on page 1. Any ideas why this might be?

Thank you everyone for your input. We will try some of these ideas and let you know what works!

Hi!
Try messing around with your home page title tag. It's displaying as "Mach7 Technologies: Enterprise Imaging Solutions" for me in the SERPs. Google loves pushing brand names towards the beginning of the title tag and valuable keywords further away. Switch it up and see what Google likes. Even something like "Mach7 Enterprise Imaging Solutions" might bump you up a tad.
Also, Google isn't preferring the meta description you added to the page. It's using "Explore our award-winning enterprise imaging solutions and find out how an image management strategy can consolidate data access and sharing across the ..." from your home page. Try some variations of that so that the meta description doesn't get cut off in the search results.
Worth a shot! Good luck

I would agree IF the video is something that people would search for, e.g. big branding content, humor, viral content, music or celebrity related.
Otherwise you're just generating traffic for YouTube. Conversions from visitors to your YouTube page for your company to clicks back to your website will run around 1%.
And the YouTube page for your video is likely to outrank your own page that embeds that video.

I would use YouTube instead. Just because it is another search engine itself and can help increase traffic to your site.

I'd agree with Monica. Panda's above-the-fold algo is absolutely going to slay your home page. You've got only 1 sentence of content above the fold. Your images in the slider are all clickable (except the Lego image), and besides, they don't seem to be foreground images (except the Lego image)...Panda is likely going to see them as decoration.
Your video is probably not seen as video. I see no schema.org/VideoObject markup, and it doesn't seem to be one of the standard embeds (YouTube, Vimeo, Wistia) that Panda can likely recognize in the HTML.
Everything else on the page is clickable, which (this is my theory only) is likely to cause Panda to see it as navigation....not content.
So....I'd recommend:
- chucking your current slider; choose a different plugin (or write it from scratch, it's only a couple dozen lines of Javascript and a few links of plain old boring HTML), so that the images are seen as content AND they're not clickable, except the next/prev slide buttons
- redesign your layout to pull some of the text below up above the fold, including moving the Archive & Communicate section and its siblings above the giant buttons
- use Wistia to embed the video, and follow their instructions re: creation of a video sitemap
I'd also recommend going into Google Webmaster Tools, and doing a Fetch & Render on your home page, to make sure that Google is able to see your page laid out the way you expect.

The only thing I would recommend here is to add a little more content to the home page. The design is superb and the keyword use is natural. I think with how competitive the word is you might need to use it a little more. Maybe 12 times instead of 8. It appears to be pretty competitive.
Did you run the page through the on page grader? And did you check your links in open site explorer? Run an advanced SERP in the Keyword Analysis tool to compare your metrics with the SERPs on page 1.

Best approach to rank for this keyword?
Hi i want to rank for the keyword "white sandals" on Google Australia. Currently, the top 5 ranking pages are not optimised and specific to white sandals. See screenshot: https://image.prntscr.com/image/WenSRHqTTFSqYNg2MHvH1A.png To rank for this keyword, would you create a page dedicated to white sandals even though it looks like it doesn't matter and you could rank the broader sandals page (not colour specific). Any recommendations? Cheers.

Blog snippets on homepage a potential detriment to rankings?
Hey guys, I realize similar topics have surfaced before, but mainly related to duplicate content penalties, which is not my concern in this case. My client is parsing blog snippets to the home page; actually 3 large snippets consisting of of approximately 200 words each. They create at least one fresh blog post per month pertaining to the specific industry. I realize this practice has widely embraced to satisfy the "freshness factor" but I am concerned it could be hindering the ability for the home page to rank for our two targeted phrases. It would seem that by continually rotating the blog snippets which contain content related to the industry, but not necessarily relevant to the home page's targeted key phrases - combined with the fact that the home page has very slim static content - the bots are attempting to assign new taxonomies of information on a monthly basis. My thoughts are to create a decent block of static content highly-relevant to the home page's target phrases, while reducing the amount of info. contained in the blog snippets, to perhaps only a headline and date. Comments and suggestions would be appreciated.

How to rank product pages?
Hi guys, Please advice me on something improving my product pages ranking. We are doing well for head terms, categories but not ranking for product pages. We have issues with product pages which I am think is hard to tackle. For instance we have duplicate products (different colors), duplicate content internally (colors) and from manufacturer websites. Product pages linked from sub-category i.e. Home > Category > Sub-Category (20 per page) using pagination for next 20 and so on. Product pages linked internally via widgets that says other Similar products, featured products etc. Another issue with our product pages is that we are using third party reviews platform and whenever users add reviews to product pages this platform creates an hyperlink to different anchors which is not relevant to product. Example - http://goo.gl/NUG652 Can somebody please give some advice on how to improve rankings for product pages. writing unique content for thousands of pages is not possible. Even our competitor not writing unique content.

Homepage is losing rankings...need help!
Hi folks, Our company has been doing SEO for www.3dincites.com since October. Since the website hadn't been optimized at all, one of the first things we did was to add keyword-optimized page title and meta description to the homepage. The person who implemented didn't do it right the first time so we needed to change the page title again after a week or so. We also changed the preferred domain in GWT. Ever since those changes were implemented, the homepage has been decreasing in rankings for the the keywords we optimized it for. This is very surprising as the website has high-quality unique content and pretty solid backlinks. Moreover, the search traffic to other pages is through the roof (2K increase since October) so the client is happy, however, this decrease in rankings for the homepage (from 3d to 6th page for "3d IC technology" which is the main keyword) doesn't let me sleep well at nights. Any ideas why this is happening?

Not ranking on Bing but is on Google?
Hi What are the main differences between Bing and Google in terms of ranking sites? My site is ranking well in Google but in Bing it is very low down and does not deliver much traffic. In Bing webmaster tools there are no warning messages and I had sent in a sitemap back in 2011 and 77 pages are listed, but I had not submitted a URL could this be why my pages are not ranking highly? Or does anybody have a checklist on what a site should offer to get ranking on Bing?

Rankings traffic percentages
Hi All, It seems that some keywords that are receiving a fairly high amount of monthly traffic such as 6000 hits are passing very little traffic to my website. for a few keywords recieving this amount of traffic my site ranks on page one. is there a breakdown of what percentage of traffic you should roughly get to your website depending on the rank for a certain keyword. example; position 1 send approximately % traffic to your site position 2 send approximately % traffic to your site etc thank you

Triple listing in rankings
We have a triple listing for the keyword vca cursus (Dutch keyword). But the page we optimized for that keyword ranks lower than our vca examen page. First we had the number one spot but now we rank 2 to 5. In opensite explorer i compared the competiton and we scored on almost all factors better. Do you know the causes why the vca examen page ranks higher then the vca cursus page. Is it possible to change that or reverse the triple listing somehow. And why does our competitor ranks higher?
