Has anyone relocated a website from one country to another?
I want to replace all reference from one country (UK) to another (Australia)
Phone number change, currency change, address will change
Meta/products/content/urls will remain the same
The .com URL will be associated to Australia
Will the website keep its ranking or will it be damaged to the point where another website should be built from scratch?
-
Never shift a website from one country to another country by myself but let me tell you what theory tells us.
- Map Changing
If you website was associated to any business registered in Google Maps and other yellow pages than you carefully need to remove all listings and re-register it on another country. These will defiantly going to hurt your rankings on specific country where you were ranking before.
The problem is results for every country are different from others so if the rankings didn’t really changed (most probably it will fluctuate for local keywords) the rankings that you had in US will not be the same in AU.
What you should be doing.
- Change your NAP and Re-register your maps in Google and other Yellow pages.
- Update content accordingly
- Get new links from .AU domains
- Change your targeted country in Google Webmaster Tool
- Get links from local keywords
And you will see your rankings will start appearing in google.com.au
Hope this helps!

Thanks Robert. Yep all those accounts are in place. I understand that I can monitor the impacts of the change. But I would like to get an understanding of whether its worth making the change in the first place.
Anyone else redirected an established website (5 years plus with PR 3 +) to another country.

Hi,
I highly advise you to acquire a Google Webmaster Tools and a connect that with your Analytics account to facilitate and monitor the change in your target audience. After you have set both up, here are the 2 main features that help to solve your problem:
1. Hreflang attributes. Google states at https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/189077?hl=en
Many websites serve users from around the world with content translated or targeted to users in a certain region. Google uses the
rel="alternate" hreflang="x"
attributes to serve the correct language or regional URL in Search results.Hreflang offers website or subpage targeting per language (English not French), country (so Australia not the UK). But note that it requires manually changing your site's mark-up.
2. Also of use is Country Targeting https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/62399?hl=en
If your site has a generic top-level domain, such as .com or .org, and targets users in a particular geographic location, you can provide us with information to help us determine how your site appears in our search results. This improves Google Search results for geographic queries, and it won't impact your appearance in search results unless a user limits the scope of the search to a certain country. See a full list of domains Google treats as generic.

thanks for quick response - the URL will NOT change
the existing site is a .com
Currently I redirect the .co.uk and the .com.au to the .com
The website is targetted to UK via Google's Country Targeting setting
Am rather surprised to hear you have seen no changes! How old were these sites? Did they have much page rank?
-
Re-reading your question it sounds like the URL will change.
So lets say you have funstuff.co.uk and your new site is funstuff.com.au the best stepn is to 301 re-direct the .co.uk to the new geo-targeted site and it will transfer 90% of the existing link juice.
We've done this many times and it works just fine.

Can you help by advising how to stop a URL from referring to another URL on my website with a 404 errorplease?
How to stop a URL from referring to another URL on my site. I'm getting a 404 error on a referred URL which is (https://webwritinglab.com/know-exactly-what-your-ideal-clients-want-in-8-easy-steps/[null id=43484])referred from URL (https://webwritinglab.com/know-exactly-what-your-ideal-clients-want-in-8-easy-steps/) The referred URL is the URL page that I want and I do not need it redirecting to the other URL as that's presenting a 404 error. I have tried saving the permalink in WordPress and recreated the .htaccess file and the problem is still there. Can you advise how to fix this please? Is it a case of removing the redirect? Is this advisable and how do I do that please? Thanks

How to handle one section of duplicate content
Hi guys, i'm wondering if I can get some best practice advice in preparation for launching our new e-commerce website. For the new website we are creating location pages with a description and things to do which will lead the user to hotels in the location. For each hotel page which relates to the location we will have the same 'Things to do' content. This is what the content will look like on each page: Location page Location title (1-3 words) Location description (150-200 words) Things to do (200-250 words) Reasons to visit location (15 words) Hotel page Hotel name and address (10 words) Short description (25 words) Reasons to book hotel (15 words) Hotel description (100-200 words) Friendly message why to visit (15 words) Hotel reviews feed from trust pilot Types of break and information (100-200 words) Things to do (200-250 words) My question is how much will we penalised for having the same 'Things to do' content on say up to 10 hotels + 1 location page? In an ideal world we want to develop a piece of code which tells search engines that the original content lies on the location page but this will not be possible before we go live. I'm unsure whether we should just go and take the potential loss in traffic or remove the 'Things to do' section on hotel pages until we develop the piece of code?

301 redirect + new website copy
Hi There, We are currently redeveloping our website and we're rewriting and optimising our many of our service pages. I think I may already know the answer but should we apply 301 redirects from our old services pages to the new versions? The content subject matter will be the same on the new versions, they will just be completely reworded. I would be interested to hear your views. Thanks, Stu

How to get Google to index another page
Hi, I will try to make my question clear, although it is a bit complex. For my site the most important keyword is "Insurance" or at least the danish variation of this. My problem is that Google are'nt indexing my frontpage on this, but are indexing a subpage - www.mydomain.dk/insurance instead of www.mydomain.dk. My link bulding will be to subpages and to my main domain, but i wont be able to get that many links to www.mydomain.dk/insurance. So im interested in making my frontpage the page that is my main page for the keyword insurance, but without just blowing the traffic im getting from the subpage at the moment. Is there any solutions to do this? Thanks in advance.

Best practices for country homepage
Hi, What are the SEO best practices for redirecting to the correct language site based on geographic location? Right now, we're using a 302 redirect to point users to the right country landing page. User reaches site: domain.com > Server detects location > 302 redirect to domain.com/french We'd like to optimize the site for all languages, but which country gets the SEO rank for the domain.com? Thanks for your help! Roya
