Multiple language redirect, link building and social sharing
-
Hi all,
I have 3 questions bother me for weeks, thanks advance for any answers.
We are an online langauge school, provide many content about learn Chinese , the site is http://www.chinesetimeschool.com/
1. Langauge issue. As you can see, It's a multiple language site, when a user first time visit the site, it redirects (302) the user to his own language. I have read many articles about this, most said 301 is good than 302. But 301 is a permanent redirect, so it can only implement on one language, right? For example, if we 301 redirect http://www.chinesetimeschool.com to http://www.chinesetimeschool.com/en-us/ for english speaking users, we have to use 302 redirect for other languages, ie, 302 redirect http://www.chinesetimeschool.com/ to http://www.chinesetimeschool.com/fr-fr/ for French speaking people. Or in other words, we cannot use 301 to redirect home page to different language page, right? In my understanding, it will mess up google which language page the home page redirects to.
2. Link building. Our editor created a lot content, but from Alexa we only see 85 links back, which means our content has few exposure. We want to get more links back especially for the English version, any advice? should we find a US company help us since we are in China not famliar with US? Any good company or guys good at link building/content exposure suggested?
3. Social sharing. We have around 300,000 followers on facebook, many content pages has hundreds of shares, for example, this page http://www.chinesetimeschool.com/en-us/articles/new-years-greetings-in-chinese/ has 129 shares and 333 likes (I use Moz open site explorer tool), but if I check http://www.chinesetimeschool.com/, only has 130 shares and 414 likes. So I think shares of a page won't be counted in the domain shares. This makes me thinking of 2 things:
A. Will social shares of home page be more important than other pages? If so, we need share more of our home page.
B. Even if we have a lot page shares, I didn't see any google traffic changes (for at least half year), will it mean social page shares has very few influences to google seo? Many thanks!

@number one: I think there was a time, where we made multi-language websites and where we directed the user (like you via 302) to his language. It is not the best way, which language speaks that google bot?
I would say here you can find some answers: http://moz.com/learn/seo/international-seo@3: I would say social shares and likes (no matter what social network) doesn't has an impact in google ranking. Ok google plus can be seen in SERPs when you are locked in ... but thats all.
Of course websites with a lot af social activity often rank well, but thats correlation not causation. I mean, your social follower may build links, blog about you, share to friends, a.s.o. - that could help, it would invrease your traffic, but to have a Like alone, doesn't help you rank better. Thats my opinion and think I am not alone, even Google told us something like that last days... May be popularity should play a role in some cases, but i really don't want to see popular sites, I like sites in SERPs answering my question in a brilliant way. SearchEngines couldn't see it in a really different way.@2 sorry -I don't know a good companie for you

External linking
Hi guys. So I know external linking is good, as I've seem to have read every article written on the subject from 2007 to 2016, but can't seem to find anything more recent, but does that mean you are better to at least one external link on every page? And if so, would it suffice to link just to our social media profiles even if you are in an industry where social media brings in very little in the way of customer enquiries? I've actually linked to all our social profiles but made them nofollow. However, that said, would it be better to leave them nofollow and link to Government white papers in my sector for example?

Good idea to include links in Facebook posts teaser-text?
Hi guys, I'm wondering; is it a good idea (for the engines primaliry) to include links with targeted keywords in facebook posts. From a user perspective I would say it's not desirable. But I'm wondering how Google and co treat links which they find there. They are nofollowed, yes. They are indexed however but when I want google to show me the text-only version of the cached page I receive an 404 error which is odd. Anybody else getting the 404 from google? Eg. clicking on this cache-URL: https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:jsC_26QVKbgJ:www.facebook.com/echoonline/posts/156674087731661+site:facebook.com/echoonline&cd=3&hl=de&ct=clnk&gl=de&client=firefox-a and then on "text only" leads to this page which does not exist: https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/echoonline/posts/156674087731661?_fb_noscript=1 Looking forward to your ideas on this topic.

Is there such a concept as 'Social Juice'?
Hi, Sorry if this question appears a bit confused, but here goes ... My understanding is that the Google ranking algolrithm has three aspects: Content Links Social Activity (Tweets, FB shares etc) I recognise that I can increase my PR by posting comments on highly ranked pages that allow 'follow' links. I get that! After investigating Google+ I see I can tie together: The content I contribute to (e.g. my website, my blog) My social networking activity (My Twitter activity, my FB fanpage, Google+ activity) Suddenly Google has a view not just of my content, but also my social influence, almost like a Klout score. It also means they have the potential to build a matrix of other content producers & social media commentators. Therefore, can I gain what I'm calling 'Social Juice' (which would influence the ranking of my content) by: Getting highly ranked social media commenters to interact/comment on any of my content/social engagement By commenting on highly ranked content producers regardless of whether that comment contains a link back to my content. So for point 2, perhaps a prominent expert in my field has a blog that allows me to leave a comment via a Twitter login, but I can't leave a link back to my website (no link juice), however because Google+ knows the comment is attributed to me (as my accounts are linked in Google+) I get 'social juice'. The idea being if I'm permitted to interact with an expert in my field, then I too must have some credibility. (Perhaps that not quite accurate, because I could engaged in an argument with said expert, so perhaps it is more like Klout's idea of influencing people) If there is logic in point 2, then what might be the best way to 'login' to leave comments on something like a Disqus comment based system so that Google might gain access to this 'social jiuce'. I guess the best way would be to leave a comment via a Google+ account, but that doesn't seem to be option in lot of cases. Big post, I hope its relevant and makes sense.
