New site. How important is traffic for a new site? And what about domain age?

Hi guys. I've been building a new site because i've seen a real SEO opportunity out there. I'm a mixing professional by trade and so I wanted to take advantage of SEO to help gain more work. Here's the site: www.signalchainstudios.co.uk
I'm curious about domain age. This site fairly well optimised for my keywords, and my site got pretty good content on it (i think so anyway). But it's no where to be seen on the SERP's (link at all). Is this just a domain age issue?
I'd have though it might be in the top 50 because my site's services are not hard to rank for at all!
Also what about traffic? Does Google want to see an 'active' site before it considers 'promoting' it up the ranks? Or are back links and good content the main factor in the equation?

No problem. I love the Moz Community. It rocks for sure.
I mean small as in very few pages and content. I consider a site to be authoritative based on the information I can find on it. So if you have 12 pages with a ton of uniquely valuable content, then your site is authoritative in my opinion.
That being said, it is better to have a site with 12 pages of great content than 100 pages of lame, duplicate, uninformative content. You can get the same authoritative stance in the SERPs with few pages of outstanding content, or many pages of outstanding content. Does that make sense?

One other quick question if I may?
When you say the site is small, do you mean there aren't many pages, or that there's not a great deal of content (copy, images, etc) on the site?
Or both?

Yes, ideally your URLs would build as you go through them.
abcinc.com/online-mixing/studio
abcinc.com/online-mixing/software
abcinc.com/online-mixing/software/download

Ah! So the site would benefit from adding the "online mixing" keyword to the URL's for all the deeper pages in the site? Can't change Home page now though

It is very important to have the keywords in your URL and Title tags. It is what the engines use, aside from content, to determine what your page is about. It is how they determine where you are relevant in the online world. I wouldn't say that they are not important. Content is king of course, but your URL and Title are kind of like the introduction to your content. Successful content builds off of the main key term for the page.
So, for online mixing, my url would be something like abcinc.com/online-mixing/studio
My title tag would be something like Chicago's Best Online Mixing Studio or The Only Online Mixing Studio You Need. Then my H1 would be something similar, The Only Online Mixing Studio You Will Ever Need To Use, and then my content would focus on the pros of the site, what tools are beneficial to online mixing and how my site uses them to achieve the ultimate mix

About the URL. I was under the impression that keywords in here wasn't such a big deal anymore? And only 2 competitors on top page have the main keyword phrase 'online mixing' in the URL. Plus I do have 'mixing' in there, so it's no so bad?I hope so. I really wanted to commit to the brand, and keep it strong and not 'dilute it' by just putting keywords into the URL.
I will take your advice a build my site out, add blog, fresh content. All part of running a good business anyway
Don't want to only really on SEO Though free traffic is alway nice!!!Also, I'm working on gaining my old back-links at the moment, some pretty decent ones, highly relevant. It was a Flash site before, so not great from an SEO point of view.

Don't worry, it happens to the best of us!
My thoughts, you need some quality backlinks and more content. Your URLs are not optimized very well, meaning you don't really target your key terms in them, and the site is small. I would say getting a blog and adding fresh content, having a social media presence, building some quality backlinks and adding more content to your pages will help you. The design of the site is beautiful, though! Good Job!

If you use the new domain change the moz points and also the google score. In my opinion, the best way is to use the other domain and improve it. Good Luck!

It is the hosting I believe that has expired, not the domain.

I see the same thing as Jonathon. Though a whois search says it doesn't expire till this August (and has been registered since August 2009).

All I see on that domain is "this webspace is expired".
If you still see your website, try clearing your browser cache. It could explain why your site is not ranking.

How to optimize count of interlinking by increasing Interlinking count of chosen landing pages and decreasing for less important pages within the site?
We have taken out our interlinking counts (Only Internal Links and not Outbound Links) through Google WebMaster tool and discovered that the count of interlinking of our most significant pages are less as compared to of less significant pages. Our objective is to reverse the existing behavior by increasing Interlinking count of important pages and reduce the count for less important pages so that maximum link juice could be transferred to right pages thereby increasing SEO traffic.

Negative SEO penalty, new domain?
One of my clients has just been hit with a Penguin 3.0 penalty. They have been subject to a negative link building attack for the last 5 months and despite my best effort it appears I haven't disavowed enough, someone was building a lot of links to them and all really low quality spam and a lot of forum profiles. They still rank for their brand, the site is in the index but the only rankings I can see are in Google Local. My advice to them for the quickest way back into Google is to get a new domain and relaunch on this new domain. The challenge is, the domain they want to buy used to be used as a domain in the 'erotic video distrubution' industry. It currently has 17 backlinks from 9 domain and the anchor text is mostly brand related but I can see that 70 links have already been deleted. I would consider this to be too high risk but would be interested to see if everyone agrees with me, it would be an awesome domain name if the history wasn't there!!

Loss of traffic due to domain move, not recovering
I have a new client who this year chose to eliminate using a "stronger", older domain (domain authority 50) for a newer, weaker domain (domain authority 38). The redirects actually started end of 2013 and happened over time by page/section. All were completed by Jan 12 2014. While 301 redirects are in place, and the robots.txt is disallowing all (187 pages blocked), it looks as though Google is still indexing pages (149 indexed) although not sure why. Perhaps they should be removed from the server? In spite of the redirects, they are not getting the (combined) traffic expected. Should they have had that expectation? Could it be because they are going from a "stronger", long established domain to a "weaker", newer domain, that it may take a long time to recover? They recently had another agency review the links on the weaker domain and they submitted a file to Google to disavow the links they found to be "toxic" however it doesn't seem to have made any difference, yet. Any idea how long it "should" take to make a difference, if it will indeed make a difference? They do have a blog in a sub-directory that doesn't get much traffic (approx 0.50% of the total traffic). Every post ends with a blatant self-promotion and due to Penguin, they have recently begun to mix up their link text and not include a link on every post. Last their target audience is both B-B and B-C, with B-B being priority. The big question I have is do you see changes take place with almost instant results in Google? Or am I right in telling him, this will take some time. He feels it's been almost 4 months now and their visibility/traffic should be more in par with what it was combined. Something to note is that they were sort of competing with themselves by using both domains however the number of searchers probably hasn't changed much... Moving Entire Domain to New Site with New File Extensions
I have been looking for a while for a good an clear Step by Step guide for moving a site from an old to a new domain... so I guess a good discussion here, could help many web masters have a smooth transition. So in your opinion, beside the obvious, what are the most important steps you must take? Here is what I do: 1. 301 old site to new one and TEST.

New site - when will it rank?
We changed our domain 6 weeks ago as we had a penalty we couldn't shake off... My question is: How long will it take to rank for our keywords. I appreciate this is a difficult questions as there are a lot of factors that will effect our ranking. Do Google wait a period of time before allowing a new site to rank well?

Buying Domains from an auction and 301 redirecting to your new site.
Lets say I have a website in not to competitive niche. I was considering buying a few aged domains from godaddy auctions and 301 redirecting them to my new domain. Can this alone be enough to rank pretty high for a uncompetitive niche? Can this also be a link building technique in itself since the link juice from the domain purchased carries over? Thanks

Multiple domain level redirects to unique sub-folder on one domain...
Hi, I have a restaurant menu directory listing website (for example www.menus.com). Restaurant can have there menu listed on this site along with other details such as opening hours, photos ect. An example of a restaurant url might be www.menus.com/london/bobs-pizza. A feature i would like to offer is the ability for Bob's pizza to use the menus.com website listing as his own website (let assume he has no website currently). I would like to purchase www.bobspizza.com and 301 redirect to www.menus.com/london/bobs-pizza Why?

So bob can then list bobspizza.com on his advertising material (business cards etc, rather than www.menus.com/london/bobs-pizza). I was considering using a 301 redirect for this though have been told that too many domain level redirects to one single domain can be flagged as spam by Google. Is there any other way to achieve this outcome without being penalised? Rel canonical url, url masking? Other things to note: It is fine if www.bobspizza.com is NOT listed in search results. I would ideally like any link juice pointing to www.bobspizza.com to pass onto www.menus.com though this is a nice to have. Site #2 beats site #1 in every aspect?
Hey guys, loving SEOMoz so far and will definitely continue my subscription after the free trial. I have a question however, which I am really confused about. When researching my primary keyword, I have found that the second ranked site beats the top site in every single aspect, apart from domain age, which is almost 6 years for the top one and 6 months for the second. When I say every single aspect, I mean everything. More authority for the page and domain, more links, more anchor text links, more authoritive links, more social signals, more relevant links, better domain (although second ranked site is a .net), better MozRank, better MozTrust etc.... I have noticed though, that in the UK SERPs, those sites are switched, so #2 is actually #1. Could it be that the US SERPs just haven't updated yet, or am I missing something completely different.
