Google Places Duplicate Listings
-
Hey Mozzers-
I know the basic process for handling duplicate listings, but I just want to make sure and ask because this one is a little sensitive.
I have a client with a claimed and verified listings page, which is here:
http://maps.google.com/maps/place?q=chambers+and+associates&hl=en&cid=9065936543314453461
There is also another listing (which I have not claimed yet) here:
http://maps.google.com/maps/place?q=dr.+george+chambers&hl=en&cid=14758636806656154330
The first listing has 0 reviews, where the 2nd unverified listing has 12 fantastic 5 star reviews. We can all agree that if I can get these two listings to merge, his general listing will perform much better than it already is (the first listing has about 200 actions per months).
So, what is the best way to merge these two without losing any reviews and without suspending my places account? Thanks in advance!
Ian

I'm going to head this route....thanks a lot for your help!

True it is techinically against google's TOS. but i think that relates more to people who are doing it in a malicious way. I think everything we have explained above is legit, even if he temporarily holds two of the same location in his places account.
If they actually got ahold of him to complain about it, it would probably be useful, because he could state his story and they would resolve the issue quicker.
But it's not like that would ever happen. Google staff are way to preoccupied to approach businesses on a case by case basis like that.

It is against Google's TOS to have more than 1 Places listing. If (as is the case in some countries) there is no 'Report A Problem' link on the Place page, you may (as suggested by a Google Places rep (I have the link somewhere) claim the duplicate and then delete the undesirable one: follow the steps as Storwell Self Storage has laid out.
If the Places page/s is in the USA, you'll want to follow Jacob's suggestions, as well as #5 from Storwell Self Storage
- wait a couple days, if that listing is still showing up in the search results, go to its places page, and click the Report A Problem link, and select “Place has another listing”. If you can, include a link to your claimed place page in the comments section.
Here is the link to the Google Places help page for duplicate issues:

claim the second listing, the good one.
-
fill out the profile to 100% complete (5 videos, 10 pictures, categories, all the works)
-
make sure that this new listing is now set to active in your places acount (you should now have 2 listings in your places account)
-
find the listing with no reviews inside your places account and click **"**Remove this listing from my Google Places account".
-
wait a couple days, if that listing is still showing up in the search results, go to its places page, and click the Report A Problem link, and select “Place has another listing”. If you can, include a link to your claimed place page in the comments section.

I actually just got done with a similar issue.
The best way to take care of this, in my humble opinion, is to delete the claimed (and inferior) listing. Do this first.

Then, claim the better listing like normal.

Google Pagination Changes
What with Google recently coming out and saying they're basically ignoring paginated pages, I'm considering the link structure of our new, sooner to launch ecommerce site (moving from an old site to a new one with identical URL structure less a few 404s). Currently our new site shows 20 products per page but with this change by Google it means that any products on pages 2, 3 and so on will suffer because google treats it like an entirely separate page as opposed to an extension of the first. The way I see it I have one option: Show every product in each category on page 1. I have Lazy Load installed on our new website so it will only load the screen a user can see and as they scroll down it loads more products, but how will google interpret this? Will Google simply see all 50-300 products per category and give the site a bad page load score because it doesn't know the Lazy Load is in place? Or will it know and account for it? Is there anything I'm missing?

Duplicate Contact Information
My clients has had a website for many years, and his business for decades. He has always had a second website domain which is basically a shopping module for obtaining information, comparisons, and quotes for tires. This tire module had no informational pages or contact info. Until recently, we pulled this information in through iframes. Now however the tire module is too complex and we do not bring in this info through iframes, and because of the way this module is configured (or website framework), we are told we can not place it as a sub-directory. So now this tire module resides on another domain name (although similar to the client's "main site" domain name) with some duplicate informational pages (I am working through this with the client), but mainly I am concerned about the duplicate contact info -- address and phone. Should I worry that this other tire website has duplicated the client's phone and address, same as their main website? And would having a subdomain (tires.example.com) work better for Google and SEO considering the duplicate contact info? Any help is much appreciated. ccee bar (And, too, The client is directing AdWords campaigns to this other website for tires, while under the same AdWords account directing other campaigns to their main site? - I have advised an entirely separate AdWords account for links to the tire domain. BTW the client does NOT have separate social media accounts for each site -- all social media efforts and links are for the main site.)

Google Places
If you rank on google places, I have noticed that you do not rank on the front page as well. I have a site that ranks on front page for it's keywords; however, because they are (1) on google places, they don't show up when someone is localized to that area. They show up on google places but not on front page. If you turn of localization, they are first in serps. How can I get around this? Two separate sites? One for Google+ (Places) and one for SERPS?

Google WMT Change of address.
Hey all. I've got two domain names. -rt112media.com -route112media.com http://rt112media.com is my main address. The preferred domain. My Google WMT account has 4 sites listed that I am a verified owner on. 1.)rt112media.com 2.)www.rt112media.com 3.)route112media.com 4.)www.route112media.com I recent changed the address in WMT for route112media.com to have the preferred domain rt112media.com. I did this on Nov 23. It is currently saying their is a request and I can withdrawl. Now I'm needing to set the preferred for www.rt112media.com to be rt112media.com but it will not let me because of the pending route112media.com. The problem is I'm getting a ton of errors under my www.rt112media.com diagnostics. I'm not getting any under rt112media.com but I am thinking it is still effecting my page rank. I have the 301's for all set up as a 301 wildcard to rt112media.com. They all redirect to the preferred domain I wan (rt112media.com.) Suggestions?
