Migrated website but Google Analytics still displays old URL's and none new?!
-
I migrated a website from a .aspx to a .php and hence had to 301 all the old urls to the new php ones. It's been months after and I'm not seeing any of the php pages showing results but I'm still getting results from the old .aspx pages.
Has any one had any experience with this issue or knows what to do?
Many thanks,
-
Hi there
I would make sure you take a look through this migration guide from Moz as it has steps to ensure your site is properly migrated.
From there, I would check the following:
Sitemap
Internal Links
Canonical Tags Change of Address Tool (if necessary)The first three links above could potentially be utilizing old URL structures, so you want to make sure that you change those and they are up to date. The last is for if you changed your domain at all.
Your analytics tag should not be the reason that your new URLs are not appearing in search.
After these steps, I would then go through a backlink audit and make sure that you update any quality backlinks or listings and remove and/or disavow any links that you find to be spammy or irrelevant to your website.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

No, as long as not deleting analytics account when you upgrade it is ok, just a code update. That said I am a cautious chap so I would peel out some important data on the off chance... but spend little time on it, just for safety.

Hi John,
Thanks for the answer. Just a quick one, will this lose the previous records?

It seems you are using the old gs.js page tracking on the site. Looking at cogri
Maybe replace the tracking code with the new Analytics.js?Anayltics.js has some new tracking features compared to the old ga.js and might be the reason why you aren't able to see data & statistics.
Available here: https://developers.google.com/analytics/devguides/collection/upgrade/reference/gajs-analyticsjs
It can take a couple of days for GA to update... as well.

Hi John,
Thank you for getting in touch. I had analytics set up before the migration and I have kept the same tracking code for the new site. I figured that it would be ok as the domain and URL's are exactly the same apart from the fact that the old ones had .aspx on the end.

Have you set up Analytics on the new site? Just need a bit more info on how you set it up.

Strange landing page in Google Analytics
Hello MOZ Community, The website in question is https://x-y.com/ When i looked at the landing pages report in GA , x-y.com is appended at the end of every URL like this. https://x-y.com/x-y.com When i open the above URL in GA interface, it shows page not found. This is obvious as there is no such URL.

Google Analytics Goals - Button Tracking
Does anyone know if there is a really easy way to track a button in Google Analytics yourself? It seems that most button click goal setups involve some use of tricky code and I'm wondering if there is a much easier way to do this that will allow us to simply setup and track certain button clicks as goal conversions in Analytics. Your help here is much appreciated!

Is there a way to find out who the admin of a Google Analytics account is?
We have a client who has been searching high and low to gain access to the GA account that is tied to their website, but previous agencies keep stating they don't have access. Is there a way to find out who the admins are on a GA account with the tracking number so we can reach out to that person and ask them to admin the client?

Google Analytics - Next Page Path is the Same URL?
Hey Everyone, I have a Google analytics question. I'm looking through a client's site and when I look at the next page path, I get the same URL as the next path. For example, on the homepage, the next page path I get is the homepage again? This happens for all URL's, is this an implementation error? Is there a way to fix this? Thanks!

Whats 'Other' in Google Analytics (in Acquisition)
When i look in GA under Channels (under Acquisition) 'other' is listed What is 'other' ? I have been told its other unidentified channels as they did not allow 3rd party cookies or surfers were in anonymous/private mode. Other is usually organic traffic that couldn't be identified for the aformentioned reasons. This data is encrypted and available but it violates Google guidelines as they are not allowed to pass personal info//data to third parties so it is automatically filtered. But they are not 'Not Provided' (since that still shows under organic) but is usually/mainly some form of organic visits. Hence Seo can take credit for much of that traffic, is this correct ? Many Thanks

Google Analytics for example.com and www.example.com
Hello. I have had a Google Analytics account set up to track the property www.example.com for several years. In Google Webmaster Tools, I recently set the preferred domain to example.com (without the www), and we put in a rewrite from www to no-www in the .htaccess file. Should I now change the url of the property in Google Analytics to example.com (without the www), or does Google Analytics see the two urls as the same? Thank you!

Hi Could anyone explain what these visits are in Google Analytics? Under traffic sources and organic I am seeing lots of entries with data like below. Any ideas what kind of traffic this is? Is it a bot and if so what is their purpose of it and is it recommended that you block it? Pages/Visit 1.00 Avg. Time on Site 00:00:00 % New Visits : 100% Bounce Rate: 100.00% Many Thanks
