Buy exact match domain and 301 worth it?
-
So there is this exact match domain that gets about 500 visitors a day. it has trust flow 17 and citation flow of 23 which is just a little lower than our own website. The website talks about one of our keywords and rank on second page in SERPs.
I am not interested in buying and running that website, but rather just to liquidate all the pages with 301s into our existing domain and onto relevant pages. So the 301s would be to relevant pages.
The question is, would this strategy be worth it in todays SEO world and Google updates?

Hello there,
There are benefits to taking this route - you will generate some link juice for your website (less than it currently has obviously due to the 301). You will have to make sure that your hosting is set up separately so you are not risking any kind of algorithmic/manual penalty.
Keep in mind that a redirect will also impact the UX since you don't know whether that traffic is through search visitors, return visitors, or if there are hacking issues leading to ghost visitors. If this traffic is made up of the latter 2 options, you may face branding issues when they are not finding the website/brand they expect when they look it up.
There are many variables, but the biggest I see are these:
- What is the cost?
You need to know what you're spending and whether the investment will be worth the link juice/traffic you get out of it.
- What market are you targeting?
If this business is locally-focused, you need to look into the local side/map pack listings and whether this will benefit you. If it is more broadly-situated, this is less of a factor.
- Are the benefits worth the costs?
17 TF/23 CF are not terrific metrics if there is a significant cost to the website. I would say that this is a buyer beware scenario.
- Do you have a way of knowing whether the metrics will stay the same after purchase?
Anyone can buy or re-direct links for temporary rankings and remove them after purchase. Again - buyer beware.
I would say you are probably better off generating your own content and building up your site (and link profile) yourself - that way you know what you have and what has gone into the site to generate your own rankings. There are a lot of risks to take for the path you are suggesting and while there are benefits, the likelihood of success would be low enough to make me cautious.
Hope this helps!
Rob

Before doing that I would make absolutely sure the previous owner didn't do anything that'll bite you down the road... like buying a bunch of garbage links. Do you not want to run that site or do you just want to pull all the traffic they're getting to your site? I'm also curious how you know that site gets about 500 visitors per day; have you seen their analytics?
As long as the site looks clean, and you just want to buy their traffic I don't see why you can't 301 it into your site.

How to consolidating my domains to the .com
Hey Mozers, Just watched Rands white board friday about consolidating domains https://moz.com/blog/rebrand-or-redirect-my-site-consolidate-multiple-sites-whiteboard-friday I would like to consider looking at consolidating my cctld's zenory.co.nz and zenory.com.au over to zenory.com I have been told by our previous seo guy to go international eg. target USA, NZ and Australia. Consolidate into 1 website (your .com), and separate your website into different subfolders for each target country zenory.com/us/, zenory.com/au/, zenory.com/nz/. If I'm not really writing country specific content for the blog I could just keep 1 blog at zenory.com/blog/ Can anyone recommend a guide around the technical side of how to apply these changes without causing issues? Our website is custom built with wordpress being the blog. Any advice will be much appreciated Cheers

Site that's 301 redirected is ranking for brand
We own a number of foreign TLD domains for our brand. They are all 301-redirected to our main .com branded domain. One of them is appearing in our branded search results, outranking out main .com page. To be clear, this is despite there being a 301 redirect from it to the .com page. Any ideas on what is going on here?

Owning multiple domains across similar fields
We have a printing website specializing in a single field but had added other products to it along the way, we are looking at adding a second site (redesigned from the ground up) that with cover everything (so will inevitably cover some of the same keywords) is this ok. We are considering some of the other things such as putting both sites on different IP's and also wondered about the registration details (would it be ok to have them under the same company?). Just to make it clear they will not be used for cross link or any other such things so just wanting to know if they could end up on page one for some of the same keywords and Google would be ok with this. Thank you for your time.

Penalised by Google - Should I Redirect to a new domain?
Last month my rankings dropped a couple of pages on Google and am no longer receiving as many visits from Google as I used to. It's coming up to summer which is the time my business naturally picks up yet I can't fix this problem. I have a crazy idea of redirecting my established site onto a new domain in hopes that the penalty would be removed. I have tried removing any manipulative links yet my ranking are not coming back. Anyone had success in redirecting to a new domain?

Too many nofollowed blog comments with exact anchor text
Back in my dumb days, I decided to use Fiver to get 25 backlinks from .edu sites. Well, they were all nofollowed, and they share space with hundreds of other sites spamming them. Top top it off, all the spam links for my site are exact-match anchor text: embroidered patches. If you look at my link profile in OSE, it looks so polluted with these. I'm just looking for post-Penguin opinions about this--if it has the potential to hurt. Since Penguin, I have moved to the #1 position for the KW embroidered patches, but I am still scared that future algorithm tweaks will incorporate this blog comment spam. What do you think?

Purchasing an EXPIRING domain with quality related links
I'm about to purchase a domain that has highly trusted links pointed to it. I would like to 301 redirect that domain to point to a brand new domain in the same niche. Some of the links that the expiring domain would take me a long time to obtain so I am thinking to use this method to my advantage. I know that this is not really a legitimate way to go to build backlinks, but surely this is going to give me good serp improvement which is my main concern at the moment. I am going to test this method to see if it benefits me in anyway but I would like some opinions to this please.
