Mass Product Page Upload - SEO Issue?
-
Hi
We will be adding a lot of products to our site, in a mass referencing exercise, not all in one go, but 10,000 split into a few loads.
This product content won't be duplicate, but the quality of the information may be sparse and not very high.
My question is, whether adding a bulk of these pages will reduce the pverall domain authority on our site?
Thank you

You could always consider no index follow these until a point you'e in a position to improve product pages
People sometimes use this technique if they feel a Panda update is coming... otherwise it could just look like a lot of low quality on the site.

Hi
I've been thinking about this, our competitors are huge compared to us. For example, Argos has 4,270,000 indexed pages and 234 referring domains.
We have 10,280 indexed pages and 33 referring domains.
Should I be looking at the external domains? Or looking more so at internal linking structure? I understand what you're saying, I'm just not sure where to start.
Thanks!

Hi
Great thank you for the detailed response. Is using majestic the best thing to go in depth with this? Or can I use MozPro?
Thank you

This will not decrease Domain Authority. What it could, hypothetically, do is distribute Page Authority disproportionately across the site relative to your SEO goals. For example, if right now the majority of your internal links flow into just a handful of pages, you will likely spread that link value across a much greater number of URLs and potentially lower the rankings of those previous pages (while potentially picking up rankings for all your new pages). Striking this balance can be difficult, but a nice starting point is to look at your competitors' ratios of Referring Domains and Indexed Pages and try to keep a ratio yourself in line or better (with a higher ratio of Referring Domains to Indexed Pages)

301 Redirect to Home Page or Sub-Page?
What do you think about 301 redirect of good expired domain to a sub-page instead of the home page? I'm doing this so I don't hurt my brand name. Let me know your thoughts please. Thank you

Mass Referencing Supplier Product Info & SEO
Hi I have a mass referencing project which will mean taking between 1000-2000 SKUs from a supplier, taking all their content & loading it onto our site. I need to make a case for not doing this from an SEO perspective. As these are pages I want to rank. I'm going to push for optimising titles/meta titles before they're loaded in. However if not, I may be forced to load in the products as they are & go back to optimise everything - does anyone see a real issue with this? I know there are so many 'similar' descriptions of products on ecommerce sites & across the web, so how does Google deal with these? The pages won't be identical as the templates are different, but maybe 100-200 words of descriptions could be until we work through them. Although this isn't ideal - what are the implications? The problem for me is, the managers just want the products on the site, without much thought regarding organic traffic/categorisation initially. Thanks!

I've seen and heard alot about city-specific landing pages for businesses with multiple locations, but what about city-specific landing pages for cities nearby that you aren't actually located in? Is it ok to create landing pages for nearby cities?
I asked here https://www.google.com/moderator/#7/e=adbf4 but figured out ask the Moz Community also! Is it actually best practice to create landing pages for nearby cities if you don't have an actual address there? Even if your target customers are there? For example, If I am in Miami, but have a lot of customers who come from nearby cities like Fort Lauderdale is it okay to create those LP's? I've heard this described as best practice, but I'm beginning to question whether Google sees it that way.

Does Google still don't index Hashtag Links ? No chance to get a Search Result that leads directly to a section of a page? or to one of numeras Hashtag Pages in a single HTML page?
Does Google still don't index Hashtag Links ? No chance to get a Search Result that leads directly to a section of a page? or to one of numeras Hashtag Pages in a single HTML page? If I have 4 or 5 different hashtag link section pages , consolidated into one HTML Page, no chance to get one of the Hashtag Pages to appear as a search result? like, if under one Single Page Travel Guide I have two essential sections: #Attractions #Visa no chance to direct search queries for Visa directly to the Hashtag Link Section of #Visa? Thanks for any help

I have removed over 2000+ pages but Google still says i have 3000+ pages indexed
Good Afternoon, I run a office equipment website called top4office.co.uk. My predecessor decided that he would make an exact copy of the content on our existing site top4office.com and place it on the top4office.co.uk domain which included over 2k of thin pages. Since coming in i have hired a copywriter who has rewritten all the important content and I have removed over 2k pages of thin pages. I have set up 301's and blocked the thin pages using robots.txt and then used Google's removal tool to remove the pages from the index which was successfully done. But, although they were removed and can now longer be found in Google, when i use site:top4office.co.uk i still have over 3k of indexed pages (Originally i had 3700). Does anyone have any ideas why this is happening and more importantly how i can fix it? Our ranking on this site is woeful in comparison to what it was in 2011. I have a deadline and was wondering how quickly, in your opinion, do you think all these changes will impact my SERPs rankings? Look forward to your responses!

How important is the HTML structure for on-page/on-site SEO?
To be more specific, say a page layout has Header, Body, Left Sidebar, Footer sections. Which layout from the following options is more SEO-friendly? Header > Body > Right Sidebar > Footer Body > Header > Right Sidebar > Footer Does it make a big difference to code HTML so that the the copy of the body appears in front of all other sections when spiders crawl a website? Is it worth taking extra steps to make this happen? I am asking this question because our site has a header navigation with a lot of dropdown menus. So I assume that this is "noise" for spiders as it pushes the main content of the page down. Please bear in mind that the question is more geared towards how search engine see the page rather than how it appears to the end user as layout can be controlled by CSS.This question also assumes that all other on-site SEO best practices are followed for both options.

Site navigation menu in head of page for SEO
We are considering expanding our site navigation menu (horizontal) at the top of our pages. However, once implemented, this would include around 30-40 links at the top of the page; before the content of the page. How much effect (good/bad) would this have on SEO? Are their any other options? (perhaps rendering the menu after the main content with CSS)? Any thoughts, suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
