Isn't Buzzsumo Just A Measure Of Advertising Budget?
-
Hello,
I see Buzzsumo being widely touted as a great way of seeing what other people are writing on a niche topic to give an indication of what is performing well according to the number of social media shares. Is this a good metric considering that any proportion of the shares could be paid for or secondary to advertising? I have looked at some of the sharers and often there is no data logged, or only a few listed. I see that often the longer posts have more shares; if I had written a 7000 word post I would be more likely to push it harder on social media and spend more promoting it, I wonder if this is skewing the data also.
Thanks for your opinions on this.

While it's possible that advertising is skewing this, it's also important to note that Social advertising doesn't work the same way as regular ads. Social ads simply place you in front of people who would not otherwise see your posts. So you're basically paying CPM but any Likes/Shares are incumbent on the people who see the ads to respond in that way. Granted you can still go viral without that, but it's much rarer nowadays. Most people boost social with ads but I wouldn't necessarily classify those differently. A like from an ad still means they're following/engaged with you.

How to measure engagement in 2014?
Cyris's article on Google making user satisfaction #1 is great! See: http://moz.com/blog/seo-satisfaction However, what is the best practice to measure user satisfaction? We have no data as to when the user goes back to the SERPS to click a competitor or do another search! Are the metrics of bounce rate and avg time on site actually helpful or just confusing the situation? Did my visitor find what they need quickly or leave because my site sucks? I'd like to hear how others are measuring user satisfaction in 2014...

Hi all, I am trying to set up a Google Analytics segment with the location as 'Kurdistan'. I have tried all location groupings (city, region etc) and am unable to locate it. Anyone else not able to locate it? Or does anyone know why I can't? Thanks,

Getting People to Leave Product Reviews, When they've reached our site in search of reviews
We have a product review website that has been showing a steady increase in organic traffic. However we seem to be having a disconnect between what happens when a visitor arrives. We essentially want a visitor coming to our website in search of a review, to LEAVE a review for another product they may have used... Any suggestions on ways we might encourage this? We are kind of newbies at this!

Google indexing PDF's
Hello, We work heavily on E-commerce SEO and recently Google has started to index PDF pages (Datasheets) added to the product pages instead of the actual product pages. Has anyone else noticed this at all? Seems to have got worse over the last month or so. Thanks

What's the best SEO management system for link building and reporting?
We've tried multiple management systems, with the last one being Raven Tools (I think this is the most popular). We've also done our own manual tracking in excel and that gets very very tedious and sometimes hard to keep track of. What are some other ones that people have found that have been easy to use and made their work much more efficient (link building/tracking, reporting, competitive research, social, etc.)?

Can we rank as a related search query on a competitor's brand keyword?
One of my clients wanted to know whether it's possible for him to rank as one of the related pages on Google for a brand name of a competitor. I honestly don't know whether it's possible so any ideas whether it's possible and if so, ideas on what can be done is greatly welcome. Thank you in advance. 🙂
