Metrics?

I have a puzzle which I'm trying to get my head around.
Trying to get a domain ranking for some keywords, competition is low and the main page authority is very similar to a competing domain.
However trust flow and circulation flow are substantially more for the competitor, the competitor also has a fairly substantial link profile. When I look at their link profile it mostly seems spamy, yet that seems the only difference is the size of the link profile.
Is Google not so fussy about spam as it makes out??
Or is there something that I'm overlooking??

I agree, steering Wheel is not the car in itself you still have to look in to other areas.

(I disagree now with a few of my own ideas of what else may matter ... but the idea remains the same.)
Metrics aren't everything and can be skewed by things like volume, spam, and things that affect ranking that have nothing to do with link metrics. Keep in mind - link & domain metrics are one small part of ranking. Age of the domain, website speed, content of course ... all these things could play into rankings.
What does the content look like? Page titles related to KWs? H1 & H2s used similarly on both sites? Duplicate content on one?
Just keep in mind that these metrics are just a piece. You wouldn't think you bought a car if someone just handed you a steering wheel, right? Check the tires. Check the engine.

Domain authority a better metric then referring domain count?
Hi Guys, When reviewing competitors what would be a better metric - Referring domain count OR domain authority. From my understanding DA is a indication of the quality of the link profile. So if a site has a high DA this is a better metric for comparison then referring domain count. What are your thoughts on this? Cheers/

Does Google give weight to the default measurement units (metric / imperial) on pages?
Hi, We run a series of weather websites that cater for the units (feet, metres, Celsius, Fahrenheight etc.) for the users by means of detecting their geo-location. So users in the US see the site in feet, Fahrenheight and pretty much the rest of the world gets metric units. My concern is that if we view the cached version of our pages as seen by the Googlebot out of Mountain View, California, it shows that our geoIP switch to imperial units has been activated for every location in the World. The question is, does the fact that we appear to cater for countries who use metric units by showing (in Google's eyes) Imperial units by default count against us from an SEO point of view? Subdomain Metrics Links??
I have been analysing my companies website against our competitors and we beat them hands down on everything apart from the total links in the subdomain metrics. Our competitor jumped above us a couple of months ago to grab the number one spot for our industries most valuable keyword. They have had a new website designed and after looking at the source code and running it through SEO MOZ in comparison to our site I can't see how they have manged to do it. We beat them hands down on all factors apart from subdomain metrics > Total links where they have twice as many. When it comes to Page Specific Metrics and Root Domain Metrics we easily beat them on all factors. Does anyone have any ideas what I need to do to improve the subdomain metrics? Thanks

Approximate linking root domains we need based on these metrics
Our top 4 competitors for a single term we're targeting has the following metrics: PA 45, DA 89, 6 linking root domains to page, 40,000 linking root domains to domain PA 53, DA 100, 3 linking root domains to page, 1.6 million to domain PA 32 DA 37, 4 linking root domains to page, 200 to domain PA 55 DA 66, 6 linking root domains to page, 3300 to domain All other optimization is about the same, except in (2) they have half of the keyword phrase in the domain and the whole keyword phrase in the URL. Also everybody else has title and meta description with the plural form, and the singular is what I typed in. We have the whole keyword phrase in the domain. The above 4 sites were internal pages, ours is a home page rank. Our metrics: PA 33, DA 22, 30 linking root domains to page, 43 linking root domains to site How tough will it be for us to compete? How many strong linking root domains will it take?

Is there a more practical way to see OSE metrics?
Hey guys, is there a way to do these things? Paste a list of URLs into a Google Docs spreadsheet and get the main metrics for each domain (like domain authority and page authority) pulled into the spreadsheet using OSE's API? I know it can be done, but has someone done it already? And if you have, would you please share the link? Do a Google search and see the DA and PA for all the domains below each result. SEOQuake does a good job with this but they don't show SEOmoz's metrics. Is there a better way to check for keyword difficulty than pasting 5 keywords at a time in the SEOmoz tool? Is there an API for this? What about a Google spreadsheet? Thank you so much! Zeke

Which metrics are better for linkback when it comes to PA vs DA?
Which metrics would be more attractive for receiving a linkback from, at least in theory, from the examples below? Gettting a link from a high PA page on a low DA site or gettting a link from a low PA page but on a high DA site, or something in the middle with both (assuming all other factors similar). For example which of these page metrics would be more preferable to be listed on? site 1: PA:19, DA:75 site 2: PA:1, DA:80 site 3: PA:39, DA:55 Thanks!
