Should I resubmit a 301 redirected domain in Webmaster Tools
-
We recently switched over a .com site to a new server. The .com site had a .co.uk domain redirecting to it previously, but when the switchover happened, the .co.uk was forgotten about.
We have now realised what has happened, but not before taking a hit with our rankings.
The .co.uk is still indexed in Google and now that we have sorted the redirects they are pointing to the right places.
My question now; is there anything further I need to do?
I know that the .co.uk will soon be removed from the SERPs, but I just want to make sure I haven't forgotten anything.

Along with applying the 301's and using the change of address form, I'd add submit a sitemap of the OLD urls, this encourages Google to view and assign the 301s. After a few weeks, submit the new sitemap with the NEW URls and all should be well.

It won't hurt, but it really won't provide much detail either. It would be like verifying the www vs non-www version (or http vs https) in Search Console. Basically what's going to happen is that you'll see the larger data set in the version that users are being redirected to. It's always worth verifying all variations because that will give you a good indication if something broke and users are seeing the old domain. It could help identify duplicate content issues due to canonicalization or redirect failures quicker if you see a lot of data showing in that view of Search Console.
It can only help in the long run and it's easy to apply, so it makes sense to take care of. I can't really think of a reason not to do it.

Sure, adding a domain in Google Search Console doesn't change anything in the ranking or won't give a signal to Google. It will provide you with information to monitor your domain.

301 redirects- how long to keep and how many are too many?
Hi, I was told we have way too many 301 redirects on our site. We have some that have been there for 3 years. Our site is datacard.com . Question- how long should you keep a redirect out there when building a new page and expiring an old page? Is it 6 months, is it a certain time frame? wondering what the best practices are? Thanks! Is 301 redirect replacing or adding PA on a page ?
Hello Moz community, I am re-structuring information architecture on a website. The homepage targets keyword A
Technical SEO | | Sindicic_Alexis
There is a page /page-on-B/ that targets keyword B
There is also an older page /page-on-kinda-B/ that targets a keyword which is really close to B ( i think they should have been worked on the same page...) I want to re-optimise the homepage on keyword B because i know it is worth the effort. If i re-write the homepage to talk about B and do a 301 redirect of : /page-on-B/
/page-on-kinda-B/ to the homepage is it going to add page authority to the homepage ? is it the right way to proceed ?
Thanks for your support !0 -
How best to fix 301 redirect problems
Hi all Wondering if anyone could help out with this one. Roger Bot crawler has just performed it's weekly error crawl on my site and I appear to have 18,613 temp redirect problems!! Rather, the same 1 problem 18,613 times. My site is a magento store and the errors it is giving me is due to the wishlist feature on the site. For example, it is trying to crawl links such as index.php/wishlist/index/add/product/29416/form_key/DBDSNAJOfP2YGgfW (which would normally add the item to one's wishlist). However, because Roger isn't logged into the website it means that all these requests are being sent to the login url with the page title of Please Enable Cookies. Would the best way to fix this be to enable wishlists for guests? I would rather not do that but cannot think of another way of fixing it. Any other Magento people come across this issue? Thanks, Carl

301 Redirect Best Practices
Hi SEOs, Question about ranking/redirects. If I have a particular page that is already ranking for a couple KWs in top SERPs, but know there are higher volume KWs I can optimize for should I just leave it as is or change the URL key and redirect for the time being until Google re-indexes. Example:
Technical SEO | | IceIcebaby
current URL: www.example.com/action/best-movies
new URL: www.example.com/action/best-action-movies
(the current would be ranking for "best action moves" whereas the new would include the actual "best action movies" KW) Let me know if I can clarify, thank you!0 -
Bogus Crawl Errors in Webmaster Tools?
I am suddenly seeing a ton of crawl errors in webmaster tools. Almost all of them are URL links coming from scraper sites.that I do not own. Do you see these in your Webmaster Tools account? Do you mark them as "fixed" if they are on a scraper site? There are waaaay too many of these to make redirects. Thanks!

Best Practice on 301 Redirect - Images
We have two sites that sell the same products. We have decided to retire one of the sites as we'd like to focus on one property. I know best practice is to redirect apples to apples, which in our case is easily done since the sites sold the same thing. www.SiteABC.com/ProductA can be redirected to www.SiteXYZ.com/ProductA. My question is how far does that thinking go regarding images? Each product has a main product page, of course, and then up to 6 images in some cases. Is it necessary to redirect www.SiteABC.com/ProductA-Image1.jpg to www.SiteXYZ.com/ProductA-Image1.jpg? Or can they all be redirected to just the product page?

301 redirect new site design
Hi I'm just setting up some 301 redirects for a new site design about to go live. The old site structure had some 'overview' pages in the urls (without any content) that just 302'd to a sub page. Do i need 301 redirect these overview page urls or since they had no content theres no need and I probably shouldn't or should i ? Also for pages that have no direct equivalent replacement is it still best to 301 to nearest relevant page or just leave it. For example a thank you page that currently shows after user submits email form wont be on new site (since message shows on form page after submission rather than new page). Should i 301 to form page or just leave it ? Cheers Dan

301 redirect all 404 pages
Hi I would like to have a second opinion on this. I am working on an ecommerce website that they 301 redirect all 404 pages (including the URLs entered incorrectly) to the “All categories page”. Will this have any negative SEO impact?
