301 Redirect non existant pages

Hi
I have 100's of URL's appearing in Search Console for example:
?p=1_1
These go to on to 5_200 etc..
I have tried to do htaccess and the mod rewrite is on as I can redirect directories to the root i.e
RewriteRule ^web_example(.*)$ /$1 [R=301,N,L]
However I have tried all kinds of variations to redirect ?p= and either it doesn't work at all or it crashes the website. Can anyone point me in the right direction to fix this.
-
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} ^p=([0-9_])$
RewriteRule ^(.)$ /p/%1? [R=301,L]the above works on our test area but not on clients so it hosting issue

Thanks Chris
Seems there is an issue with the web host.

Hi James,
Assuming you want to keep the existing setup but set up friendlier URLs (example, redirect ?p=1_14 to /p/1_14), you could do something like this:
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} ^p=([^&]+) [NC,OR]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} &p=([^&]+) [NC]
RewriteRule .* /p/%1? [R=301,L,NE]Then you'd want something to handle those new URL requests with something like this:
RewriteRule "^p/(.*)$" "/index.php?p=$1" [L,NE]
Hope this helps!

It's from an old website so the pages no longer exist. I will have a look at the link you sent over thank you.

Hi,
Something is generating those links, and that is what I would want to fix. It sounds like a module or add-on is incorrectly coded, or installed improperly. As p=1_1 is usually a form of pagination and / or sort order.
You could of course easily fix it by putting a canonical tag on the root page to itself or work out a mod rewrite rule, but that isn't actually fixing the problem. As soon as you add another category you may have to revisit the fix again.
Here is an example of using mod re-write on Stack Overflow: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/14666140/htaccess-rewriting-php-pagination
I hope that helps,
Don

Should I disavow links from pages that don't exist any more
Hi. Im doing a backlinks audit to two sites, one with 48k and the other with 2M backlinks. Both are very old sites and both have tons of backlinks from old pages and websites that don't exist any more, but these backlinks still exist in the Majestic Historic index. I cleaned up the obvious useless links and passed the rest through Screaming Frog to check if those old pages/sites even exist. There are tons of link sending pages that return a 0, 301, 302, 307, 404 etc errors. Should I consider all of these pages as being bad backlinks and add them to the disavow file? Just a clarification, Im not talking about l301-ing a backlink to a new target page. Im talking about the origin page generating an error at ping eg: originpage.com/page-gone sends me a link to mysite.com/product1. Screamingfrog pings originpage.com/page-gone, and returns a Status error. Do I add the originpage.com/page-gone in the disavow file or not? Hope Im making sense 🙂

301 redirect relative or absolute path?
Hello everyone, Recently we've changed the URL structure on our website, and of course we had to 301 redirect the old urls to the coresponding new ones. The way the technical guys did this is: "http://www.domain.com/old-url.html" 301 redirect to "/new-url.html"
Technical SEO | | Silviu
meaning as a relative redirect path, not an absolute one like this:
"http://www.domain.com/old-url.html" 301 redirect to "http://www.domain.com/new-url.html" This happened for few thousands urls, and the fact is the organic traffic dropped for those pages after this change. (no other changes were made on these pages and the new urls are as seo friendly as possible, A grade on On-Page Grader). The question is: does the relative redirect negatively affects seo, or it counts the same as an absolute path redirect? Thanks,

Can you 301 redirect a page to an already existing/old page ?
If you delete a page (say a sub department/category page on an ecommerce store) should you 301 redirect its url to the nearest equivalent page still on the site or just delete and forget about it ? Generally should you try and 301 redirect any old pages your deleting if you can find suitable page with similar content to redirect to. Wont G consider it weird if you say a page has moved permenantly to such and such an address if that page/address existed before ? I presume its fine since say in the scenario of consolidating departments on your store you want to redirect the department page your going to delete to the existing pages/department you are consolidating old departments products into ?

Hreflang on non-canonical pages
Hi! I've been trying to figure out what is the best way to solve this dilemma with duplicate content and multiple languages across domains. 1 product info page 2 same product but GREEN
Technical SEO | | LarsEriksson
3 same product but RED
4 same product but YELLOW **Question: ** Since pages 2,3,4 just varies slightly I use the canonical tag to indicate they are duplicates of page 1. Now I also want to indicate there are other language versions with the_ rel="alternate" hreflang="x" _element. Should I place the _rel="alternate" hreflang="x" _on the canonical page only pointing to the canonical page with "x" language. Should I place the _rel="alternate" hreflang="x" _on all pages pointing to the canonical page with the "x" language? Should I place the _rel="alternate" hreflang="x" _on all pages and then point it to the translated page (even if it is not a canonical page) ? /Lars0 -
301 Redirect & Cloaking
HEllo~~~~ People. I have a question regarding on cloaking. I will be really greatful if you can help me with question. I have a site www.example.com and it is targeting for multi countries. So I use sub directories for targeting multi countries. e.g. www.example.com/us/ www.example.com/de/ www.example.com/hk/ ....... so on and on. Therefore, when people type www.example.com, I use IP delivery to send users to each coutries. Here is my question. I use 301 redirect for IP delivery, which means when user enter www.example.com, my site read user's IP and send them to right country site by 301 redirect. In this case, is there any possibility that Google considers it as cloaking? Please people.... share me some ideas and thoughs.
