Does anyone know how dynamic/personalized website content affects SEO?
-
A client using Marketo has inquired about personalizing their website content to be personalized based on a persona. To be clear, I'm talking about key website pages, maybe even the Home page, not PPC/campaign specific landing pages. For example, areas of on the site would change to display content differently to a CEO vs a sales person.
I'm new to marketing automation and don't exactly know how this piece works. Hoping someone here has experience or can provide pros/cons guidance. How would search engines work with this type of page?
Here's Marketo's site explaining what it does: https://docs.marketo.com/display/public/DOCS/Web+Personalization+-+RTP

Thanks, Sergey. Have you had much experience with implementing this type of feature on a website's main pages (not campaign focused landing pages)? I understand the power in theory but wonder how it would behave for user experience should someone from one position were to share the info to another in the company or different chain of command.
Secondly, you mention strict parameters need to be placed so as not to be seen as duplicate content. The search engine crawler would "read" everything at once, no? I'm wondering if a crawler would scan the entire page for all content and could perhaps be confused by the focus of a page if different features were set up to target different audience types. Or maybe it doesn't matter at all and I'm over thinking it?

Hello Wendy,
Great question. First of all, if done right, something like this can be extremely powerful.
Here are some pros associated with this kind of persona targeting:
-
Increasing conversion rate (more personalized content = more people wanting to convert)
-
Increase in user experience metrics (things like bounce rate, time no site, etc.)
-
IF setup correctly, it could eventually lead to (potentially) less work in the long run for developers, etc.
With that being said, there are some things to watch it for. I wouldn't necessarily call these cons, but nonetheless.
-
Duplicate/thin content can become an issue if strict parameters, etc. aren't setup.
-
There is a possibility that conversion rates don't increase, and therefore you wouldn't be getting any ROI from this.
-
It can take a lot of time to make this system fit into your developers program/work.
It comes down to what the goal is for your website. If you are trying to test and see if (using your example), changing an image for a certain user would benefit the user experience/conversion rates, I would recommend doing some A/B testing first. Tools like Optimizely offer great ways to test out changes to various pages that you control. If a certain test goes well, then you could work with an automation tool to implement that change for specific users.
**TLDR; Can this work? YES. Does it take a lot of resources/thought? YES. Does it vary from business to business? YES. **
Hope that helps.

Ogranization Schema/Microformat for a content/brand website | Travel
Hi, One of our clients have a website specific to a place, for eg. California Tourism in which they publish local information related to tourism, blogs & other useful content. I want to understand how useful is to publish Organization Schema on such website mentioning the actual Organization, which in this case is a Travel Agency? Or any other schema would fit in for such websites?

SEO website migration gone wrong - noticed too late?
I have just been contacted by a company whose website has lost nearly all of its traffic. The web developers appeared to know nothing about the SEO aspects, when it came to migrating the website (this website change took place first week of August) - the traffic has gone from 7,000 sessions to 200 sessions a month. I can work through the usual SEO migration steps to help recover performance, yet normally I get employed on this kind of project as soon as the traffic loss is noticed... this time the traffic loss kicked in nearly 2 months ago - what are the implications of such a time lag re: SEO recovery?

Anyone know how to outrank a stock ticker symbol?
My client's name (an acronym) happens to be the stock ticker symbol for another (completely unrelated) company. When you google my client, the first result is always a stock quote for the other company. This other company is not even large or very successful, as far as I can tell – the stock isn't on one of the major exchanges (it trades "over the counter") and is currently selling for $0.02 a share. Does anyone have any advice on how to outrank a stock quote? Thanks in advance...

Content Marketing: Should we build a separate website or built in site within the Website itself?
Hi Mozzers, Client: Big carpet cleaner player in the carpet cleaning industry Main Goal: Creating good content to Get more organic traffic to our main site Structure of the extra content: It will act like a blog but will be differentiated from the regular site by not selling anything but just creating good content. The look and design will be different from the client's site. SEO question: In terms of SEO, what would be the most beneficial for us to do, should we built in this new section/site outside or inside the client's site? I personally think that it should be separated from the main site because of the main reasons: A followed link to the main site Anchor texts implementation linking back to our service pages If we would to choose to build in this content, it would be highly beneficial for getting organic traffic within the main site but I am afraid this will not provide us any link juice since anchor texts won't be accounted the same since all of those would be located in the Nav bar of the main site. Can someone tell me what would be the best in terms of SEO? P.S: My boss doesn't agree with me and would rather go the second option (build in within the main site) that's why i am asking you guys what would be the most beneficial? Thank you Guys

Duplicate Content / 301 redirect Ariticle issue
Hello, We've got some articles floating around on our site nlpca(dot)com like this article: http://www.nlpca.com/what-is-dynamic-spin-release.html that's is not linked to from anywhere else. The article exists how it's supposed to be here: http://www.dynamicspinrelease.com/what-is-dsr/ (our other website) Would it be safe in eyes of both google's algorithm (as much as you know) and with Panda to just 301 redirect from http://www.nlpca.com/what-is-dynamic-spin-release.html to http://www.dynamicspinrelease.com/what-is-dsr/ or would no-indexing be better? Thank you!
