Searching for Compelling Hard Data on why B2B Websites Should Be Responsive
-
I am being asked to provide hard data in support the migration to a responsive website for a large B2B website. I have searched for any case studies showing before/after comparisons - no luck.
I can easily show:
- Current data on desktop vs mobile visitors, their bounce rate, pages per visit, etc.
- Google Analytics Benchmark data - really compelling stuff there!
- In the past year, 100K visitors have come to the site from mobile devices.
- GWMTs shows the client not receiving mobile impressions for important keywords,
- All the close competitors have gone responsive.
- In APAC regions, mobile is more widely used than in the USA.
BUT, I can’t show that making this expensive and time-consuming transition will result in more revenue. The client is a financial services software company, with a 2-3 year sales cycle.
Has anyone seen data to support this transition?
Thanks everyone! Have a great long weekend.

Hi Rosemary,
I work for a company that's very driven by hard data as well, so I totally feel your pain!
I couldn't find many case studies, but here are a number of articles with specific increases in traffic or conversions as a result of making the switch:
- Here are 5 Solid Examples of Responsive Design Improving Conversions
- MTV doubled mobile traffic a year and a half ago with responsive design
- Neil Patel increased mobile traffic from 18% to 56% on Kimberly Snyder's website
- One of my former coworkers increased his organic traffic by 400% when he implemented responsive design (granted, this was waaaay back in 2013)
- This dude found something similar
- So did One Fish Two
Do these help?
Best,
Kristina

Hello,
While I don't have any hard data about this, I do have a few points to bring up as I have some experience with B2B company sites.
Key issues are:
Accessibility: While many don't use phones and tablets at work, they do use them on the way to work, on the way back, at home while waiting for this and that, and often it's in relation to their job if only for a small amount of time. That's a lot of missed opportunity to attract someone on their phone or tablet. What about when they voice search and pull up one of your pages on one of those devices, only to see they have to do all this extra work just to view the content, they're gonna press back before they even realize 3 letters in your companies name.
Brand Remembering: Following up from the 1st point, they will think of your site and company name as " that site that doesn't look good on this or that " which can give off the vibe your company isn't as professional as it should be. That's actually a huge trust factor and one they came up with entirely on their own from just the way the site looked.
Conversions: This one is kinda a no brainer but if they can't use your site, they can't or won't want to purchase anything from it, even with someone else's money. Or lets say they used a desktop to view you site, and even have made it as far as adding an item to their cart but forgot something. If they look on their phone or tablet to remember what they were going to get or to add something only, they might just move on to another site when they can't navigate very well.
Not to mention, Google does give a boost to rankings if your site is mobile ready / responsive.
Your site might be ok for the time being, however the future is tomorrow and everyday after that, of which we continue to consume mobile data at a faster rate than desktops and with voice search the events that trigger mobile sites will only grow. Think about automated cars and how users will spend their time commuting to work, maybe using their phone or tablet, if your site isn't set up for them, it won't be positive.
Hope this helps

Where can I find a breakdown of google search volume by specific industry/vertical? For example, what % of people searching in google are looking for housing? Cars? Restaurants?
I"m looking for specific breakdowns of search volume in google by: #1 Vertical (Shopping/restaurants/Services etc). For example, how many people are searching in google for information pertaining to restaurants per month? Search volume for all of 2012, 2013, 2014? #2 More granular categories within verticals, people searching for: books, apartment rentals, cellphones) Is there a breakdown of google search somewhere online that gives this type of information? Thank you MOZ community, really appreciate it!

Google Trends Graph and KW Planner Monthly Searches?
I'm trying to show people the trends of certain keywords/topics over a period of years Keyword Planner gives some actual numbers but only for 12 months. Trends will show "Numbers represent search interest relative to the highest point on the chart. If at most 10% of searches for the given region and time frame were for "pizza," we'd consider this 100. This doesn't convey absolute search volume." Which I don't really understand, other than if the graph goes up it means more interest but has to do with the amount of people searching, location, etc which can get tricky? I'd like to put together a short report explaining certain topics and how interest in them has increased over the last 5+ years. I'm hoping someone else here has had some experience with this and has some advice or links with more information?

Why does this website rank so well?
We've just taken on a new client who wants to rank well for 'Emergency dentist' related keywords in the London area and they have identified a website that they would like to compete with rankings wise. www.valedental.com I've done a backlink analysis with Open Site explorer and it says that the domain only has 2 inbound links? I've also done a who-is lookup and the domain was only registered in December 2012. Any idea why it is ranking so well for 'emergency dentist' 'emergency dentists' 'emergency dentist london' 'dental emergencies' (when searched for in the london area) thanks in advance for any help Marcus

.org appearing in browser search when .com is the primary domain
In most browsers, our visitors search for our domain and when they start typing the URL the drop down auto choices list .org as the first choice for our website. We do own the .org but it points to the .com and the .com is our primary domain. Why does .org seem to dominate Google search in this case? And since we have the .org forwarded to the .com, do we need to be concerned?

Can a google data refresh knock your pages out of the rankings?
I see that around mid November 2013 a handful of my sites pages dropped off of Google completely. It was around the data refreshes in November, and while everyone says it doesn't effect that much I was wondering if anyone knew if it could knock some of my pages out of the rankings for a specific keyword. Note - we had previously held muliple listings for different pages on our site for this particular keyword. Google kept the highest ranking and knocked the lower ones off. See attached image of our keyword ranking history to see what I mean. DcJJM0M

I used to rank 12 or 13 for a specific search term. Now I don't show up at all. What's cuasing this?
Used to rank on the second page for a specific search query, now we don't seem to show up at all for the same query. Has Google penalized us or is something else going on?

Today all of our internal pages all but completely disappeared from google search results. Many of them, which had been optimized for specific keywords, had high rankings. Did google change something?
We had optimized internal pages, targeting specific geographic markets. The pages used the keywords in the url title, the h1 tag, and within the content. They scored well using the SEOmoz tool and were increasing in rank every week. Then all of a sudden today, they disappeared. We had added a few links from textlink.com to test them out, but that's about the only change we made. The pages had a dynamic url, "?page=" that we were about to redirect to a static url but hadn't done it yet. The static url was redirecting to the dynamic url. Does anyone have any idea what happened? Thanks!
