My news site not showing in "In the news" list on Google Web Search
-
I got a news website (www.tapscape.com) which is 6 years old and has been on Google News since 2012. However, whenever I publish a news article, it never shows up "In the news" list on Google Web Search. I have already added the schema.org/NewsArticle on the website and have checked it if it's working or not on Google structured data testing tool. I see everything shows on on the structured data testing tool. The site already has a news sitemap (http://www.tapscape.com/news-sitemap.xml) and has been added to Google webmaster tools.
News articles show perfectly fine in the News tab, but why isn't the articles being shown on "In the news" list on the Google web search? My site has a strong backlink background already, so I don't think I need to work on the backlinks.
Please let me know what I'm doing wrong, and how can I get it to the news articles on "In the news" list.
Below is a screenshot that I have attached to this question to help you understand what I mean to say.

Well I'm pretty sure that the difference ain't in Schema.org as the differences there have nothing to do with the crawlability and the newsworthiness of the content. The first things I would focus on are making sure that Google can find new content as fast as possible and that your crawl-rate goes up. That's really important, and if you're convinced that is fixed then focus more attention on the authority part.
Both ain't easy to fix, but someday you'll get there!

I got 2 more sites which are on Google News, and doesn't have much authority. Both sites articles show up "In the news" on Google Web search. However, the site in question has the highest domain authority and is the oldest in age. The other 2 don't have backlinks from any high authority website even.
The only difference between those 2 sites and the one in question is that I am using JSON-LD schema markup on the other 2 sites, while I am using Microdata schema on tapscape.com.
As we all know bing.com doesn't support JSON-LD, therefore I am using Microdata. I searched around if I could use Microdata and JSON-LD schema on one page, but everyone suggested to use one of them since it will confuse Google Bot.

Thanks for your answer Martijn,
By considering strong backlink profile, I meant was that big sites such as Tech Crunch, Huffington Post, Engaged, Zdnet, The Verge, Computer World, Wired, and many others have published do-follow backlinks to my website articles. I heard this plays a major role in increasing a website's authority.
My domain authority of my website is 48 at the moment, not sure whats the issue.

So the "In the news" block in the Google Search results are still powered by the normal Google Search data and not necessarily by the Google News data sets. That means you sometimes can let go of all the requirements like the news-sitemaps that are required for this. Usually authority seems to be the biggest issue to get into the block. What do you consider a strong backlink profile at the moment and could you shed some light on the industry that you're in?

Do Wordpress sites outrank SquareSpace?
I was a big fan of Wordpress. I used it for 10 years. However, because I run a very small business, the constant upkeep needed on WP in the end started to frustrate me in the end, so I moved to SquareSpace. However, I am beginning to question my decision, as one of my sites is struggling really badly, and I mean badly. The other sites are okay. So I started asking around, and most people are saying there shouldn't be a difference. A few people have said their Wordpress sites always outranks their SquareSpace sites. Then I read what Rand Fishkin said in the below Twitter thread, now I am even more confused. I am very reluctant to move to Wordpress, its just so much hassle. But at the same time, if a site doesn't get much traffic then it's useless. https://twitter.com/drew_pickard/status/991659074134556673 https://twitter.com/randfish/status/991974456477278209 Please let me know your thoughts and experience.

Is it Bad to Break Up A Site into Multiple Sites?
I have a big cluttered website with endless pages. It's a non-profit that has content for patients, researchers, therapists, etc.. Would it be a bad idea to turn this cluttered site into 3 or more completely different sites, each focused on their specific demographic? Or should I just figure out how to organize the one site better? Thanks for your help!!!

May open the site's homepage...?
In mobile search results, many of my inner pages show the title tag, but the link is removed. And instead of showing the meta description, there is the following: May open the site's homepage
Web Design | | Dino64
Try anyway | Learn more Both "Try Anyway" and "Learn more" are links. Try anyway used to link to the homepage, but after we removed a redirect plugin and got rid of all the html mobile pages (now we're just using the Wordpress responsive layout), the link is now going to the correct page. So, it in fact, does NOT "open the site's homepage" any longer. But, we're still seeing this on mobile searches for our inner pages. It's been almost 3 weeks now. Any ideas on how to get this back to normal?0 -
Nav / Sitemap Question. Using a "services" page vs just linking directly to individual service page?
Okay, so our company offers video production, web design, and web marketing services. While we do offer these services individually, our goal is to get our clients to integrate these services together. Our nav is currently like so : home - about - video - web design - web marketing - blog - contact Now I've seen businesses and agencies also use a nav with a "services" button instead of listing out their service offerings (if they have more than 1, like us). The services button usually links to a category page or has a drop down with links to the company's individual services. I'm wondering if there is any benefit to having a main services page like this and linking to the individual pages off of it (video ,web design, marketing, etc). Or if we should just keep it the way we have it now (since we've already got some page authority on the individual service pages). I know this may not be the most important aspect of our site and we may be over-thinking it but any thoughts/ideas would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Image sliders & site speed
We are having a new website designed using WordPress and the Genesis framework. We wanted to include header image sliders on a number of internal site pages, but our designer says that sliders on more than just the home page will slow down the site significantly. How much could they slow down the site, and what can be done to minimize their effect on site speed?

Whats happening with Google UK?
Within the last week we have had a handful of our rankings drop dramatically down the SERPS. About 15% but this an estimate and has not been fully investigated yet. Whilst looking into possible scenarios that could be causing this i wanted to check what the SERPS looked like for the terms that we are still holding position on. Typing "extending dining tables" into Google UK today i was amazed at what i found... Ranking in position 1 and 2 is a massive UK furniture store.

But isnt that the same landing page being returned for both positions?? It appears to be a navigation problem within the site category tags causing duplicate content. However they have been rewarded with the top two positons subsequently pushing our website onto page two. I find it so frustrating that we listen to Googles best practices when it comes to pagination issues yet this is how our hard work is rewarded! Anyone else have any thoughts about this? SERPS.jpg0 -
