Pages Not Getting Indexed
-
Hey there
I have a website with pretty much 3-4 pages.
All of them had a canonical pointing to one page and the same content ( which happened by mistake )
I removed the canonical URL and added one pointing to its page. Also, I added the original content that was supposed to be there to begin with.
It's been weeks but those pages are not getting indexed on the SERPS while the one that they use to point with the canonical does.

I have tried all these of-course before hand. Still nothing.

Hi,
The first place I would look to investigate this is at the Crawl Error Report in Google Search Console (if you haven't already). Here are some things I would also check:
- Does your site have a XML sitemap? If no, I would add it to your site (could help Google indexing the pages faster)
- Do you have a lot of redirects? This could cause problems.
- You could try Urivalet to check if the server header of your pages are okay.
- Obvious one: are you sure that you don’t have a NOINDEX in your meta tags?
- Check your robots.txt to see if those pages aren't disallowed.
- If your site uses Appache, maybe your .htaccess file is causing issues?
- Do you experience any problems with hosting/DNS or really slow loading times?
I don’t know what you already tried and the specifics, so it is a bit harder to troubleshoot
Hopefully you will find a solution soon.

Hey there Mark and thank you for your answer.
I have already fetched as Google numerous times. It doesn't seem to make the pages get indexed.
I have done the same thing a thousand times to a thousand different websites. This is the first time this has ever happened to me.
I believe this has something to do with the fact that those pages had a canonical url pointing the homepage. Even though I have removed the canonical url google still doesn't crawl the pages.

Hi,
It can take a while before Google indexes your pages.
You can check if they are indexed by using the following in Google Search: site:yourwebsite.com
This will show all the indexed pages of your website.
Another option is to manually upload the url’s to Google here: https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/submit-url

Pages not indexable?
Hello, I've been trying to find out why Google Search Console finds these pages non-indexable: https://www.visitflorida.com/en-us/eat-drink.html https://www.visitflorida.com/en-us/florida-beaches/beach-finder.html Moz and SEMrush both crawl the pages and show no errors but GSC comes back with, "blocked by robots.txt" but I've confirmed it is not. Anyone have any thoughts? 6AYn1TL

Gradual Drop in GWT Indexed Pages for large website
Hey all, I am working on SEO for a massive sports website. The information provided will be limited but I will give you as much context as possible. I just started digging into it and have found several on-page SEO issues of which I will fix when I get to the meat of it but this seems like something else could be going on. I have attached an image below. It doesn't seem like it's a GWT bug as reported at one point either as it's been gradually dropping over the past year. Also, there is about a 20% drop in traffic in Google Analytics over this time as well. This website has hundreds of thousands of pages of player profiles, sports team information and more all marked up with JSON-LD. Some of the on-page stuff that needs to be fixed are the h1 and h2, title tags and meta description. Also, some of the descriptions are pulled from wikipedia and linked to a "view more" area. Anchor text has "sign up" language as well. Not looking for a magic bullet but to be pointed in the right direction. Where should I start checking off to ensure I cover my bases besides the on page stuff above? There aren't any serious errors and I don't see any manual penalties. There are 4,300 404's but I have seen plenty of sites with that many 404's all of which still got traffic. It doesn't look like a sitemap was submitted to GWT and when I try submitting sitemap.xml, I get a 504 error (network unreachable). Thanks for reading. I am just getting started on this project but would like to spend as much time sharpening the axe before getting to work. lJWk8Rh

Why are my URL's with a trailing slash still getting indexed even though they are redirected in the .htaccess file?
My .htaccess file is set up to redirect a URL with a trailing / to the URL without the /. However, my SEOmoz crawl diagnostics report is showing both URL's. I took a look at my Google Webmaster account and saw some duplicate META title issues. Same thing, Google Webmaster is showing the URL with the trailing /. My website was live for about 3 days before I added the code to the .htaccess file to remove the trailing /. Is it possible that in those 3 days that both versions were indexed and haven't been removed even though the .htaccess file has been updated?

301 lots of old pages to home page
Will it hurt me if i redirect a few hundred old pages to my home page? I currently have a mess on my hands with many 404's showing up after moving my site to a new ecommerce server. We have been at the new server for 2 years but still have 337 404s showing up in google webmaster tools. I don't think it would affect users as very few people woudl find those old links but I don't want to mess with google. Also, how much are those 404s hurting my rank?

Too many on page links for WP blog page
Hello, I have set my WP blog to a page so new posts go to that page making it the blog. On a SEOmoz campaign crawl, it says there are too many links on one page, so does this mean that as I am posting my blog posts to this page, the search engines are seeing the page as one page with links instead of the blog posts? I worry that if I continue to add more posts (which obviously I want to) the links will increase more and more, meaning that they will be discounted due to too many links. What can I do to rectify this? Many thanks in advance
