HTML or XML sitemap - benefits
-
Hi all,
Can I use only HTML sitemap or I should use both versions?
How much I would lose in case when I would lose only HTML sitemap, without XML sitemap?Thank you.

Hi Tormar,
You tend to find that almost every site has an XML sitemap tied in with Search Console, but an HTML sitemap doesn't really do much for Google and is more of a navigation aid for people to find places on large sites. You certainly won't get a penalty or benefit if you do or don't carry one.
Add one if you feel it will be beneficial, but don't if not.

XML sitemaps are for the benefit of Google or other search engine crawlers. It makes it easier for them to index all your pages so you might see that if you dont use an XML sitemap that Google wont find all of your pages or index them within the search engine.
I don't see why you wouldn't want to use an XML sitemap. They are not hard to create and for the effort they take are very beneficial for your SEO.
I would suggest using both but if you were going to use one over the other I would suggest XML.

This url is not allowed for a Sitemap at this location error using pro-sitemaps.com
Hey, guys, We are using the pro-sitemaps.com tool to automate our sitemaps on our properties, but some of them give this error "This url is not allowed for a Sitemap at this location" for all the urls. Strange thing is that not all of them are with the error and most have all the urls indexed already. Do you have any experience with the tool and what is your opinion? Thanks

Old sitemaps after site migration.
Hi, I was wondering if it's safe to remove all the sitemaps from the old site in search console? It's been 3 months since site migration from http://sitea.com (301 redirected) to http://siteb.com. Therefore, can I delete the old sitemap from the http://sitea.com from search console? Thanks.

Substantial difference between Number of Indexed Pages and Sitemap Pages
Hey there, I am doing a website audit at the moment. I've notices substantial differences in the number of pages indexed (search console), the number of pages in the sitemap and the number I am getting when I crawl the page with screamingfrog (see below). Would those discrepancies concern you? The website and its rankings seems fine otherwise. Total indexed: 2,360 (Search Consule)

Sitemap: 1,229 URLs

Redirecting index.html to the root
Hi, I was wondering if there is a safe way to consolidate link juice on a single version of a home page. I find incoming links to my site that link to both mysite.com/ and mysite.com/index.html. I've decided to go with mysite.com/ as my main and only URL for the site and now I'd like to transfer all link juice from mysite.com/index.html to mysite.com/

When i tried 301 redirect from index.html to the root it created an indefinite loop, of course. I know I can use a RewriteRule.., but will it transfer the juice?? Please help!5 -
Template Files .tpl versus .html files
We sell a large selection of Insulation Products use template files (.tpl) to collect up-to-date information from a server side database file that contains some 2,500 line items. When an HTML (.html) file is requested on the Internet, the 'example.tpl' file is accessed, the latest product and and pricing information is accessed, then presented to the viewer as 'example.html' My question: Can the use of .tpl files negatively impact Search Engine acceptance?

What is the practical influence of priority in a sitemap?
I have a directory site with 1000s of entries. Will there be benefit to be gained from playing with various entries priorities in the sitemap? I was thinking I might give more priority to entries that have upgraded their directory entry. Thanks.

Limiting URLS in the HTML Sitemap?
So I started making a sitemap for our new golf site, which has quite a few "low level" pages (about 100 for the golf courses that exist in the area, and then about 50 for course architects), etc etc. My question/open discussion is simple. In a sitemap that already has about 50 links, should we include these other low level 150 links? Of course, the link to the "Golf Courses" is there, along with a link to the "Course Architects" MAIN pages (which, subdivides on THOSE pages.) I have read the limit is around 150 links on the sitemap.html page and while it would be nice to rank long tail for the Golf Courses. All in all, our site architecture itself is easily crawlable as well. So the main question is just to include ALL the links or just the main ones? Thoughts?
