Domain Authority dropping for me and rival companies
-
Hey,
I have noticed in the past week/2 weeks that my websites domain authority has dropped by 2 points but what is weird is all the other website which are our main competitors in our industry have also dropped by 2.
I was wondering if anyone knows of any changes that have been made to the way the domain authority is calculated or is it just a coincident that we all dropped at one time?

Think of domain authority like you would the stock or bond market. They fluctuate over time. Sometimes an individual stock or bond's value will go up or down as a result of that specific stock's assessed risk / benefit. Sometimes the whole market will shift based on factors that have broader influence. Stock and bond valuations fluctuate real time. Website valuations (as measured / quantified by Moz) fluctuate roughly monthly. You've observed what equates to a "market shift" likely resulting from the size and characterization of the websites in Moz's sample.
Stock and bond valuations fluctuate real time. Website valuations (as measured / quantified by Moz) are derived from a large and lengthy process that involves going out and collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data from millions of websites, billions of URLs, and trillions of links. The numbers that spit out at the end vary based on a whole bunch of factors, not least of which is the size and nature of the targets of evaluation.
You've observed what roughly equates to a "market shift". It's likely not a coincidence and due to the sampling process.

Hi Bondara, this is a common occurrence and is simply representative of the size of the index that Moz is working off, you will find that it happens quite often as the data is refreshed and nothing is likely wrong at all and will probably be affecting more sectors and people than just yourself.
There is nothing to worry about in this instance unless you find your own stats doing something vastly different.

Alternatives to Domain Authority
Is there another metric (or metrics) that is similar to the Moz Domain Authority that doesn't fluctuate as much? I've been reporting it on a monthly basis for about a year, but lately it seems like it's been going up and down every few weeks.

OK I'll try again.... Linking root domains and external links
I'm new to the crawl test tool, I think I know what is meant by external links and linking root domains but I need to check. If there are 500 external links and 50 linking root domains does that suggest the essentially those 500 links are coming from 50 root domains? If yes, then what would 1000 linking root domains and 100 links mean? Or am I completely wrong in my assumptions and if so, can somebody point me in the right direction? Thank you.

In alt tag of a image can we use #hashtag or domain.com ? Is that good SEO or not allowed ?
Some of the Google Search shows a title has a hashtag of an article, which contain keyword and while tweeting them, the title which has a hashtag automatically very good used for getting traffic to the blog. And other one, can we use the hash tag inside the alt attribute ? Or our domain name with .com in it. Like Google.com or #Google ?

Did anyone else see "Rel Canonical" drop to zero after their latest SEOmoz crawl?
In the Crawl Diagnostics section of the SEOmoz reports, we get errors in red, warnings in yellow, and notices in blue. After my latest crawl, I saw the "Rel Canonical" part go from about 300 down to 0. Obviously, this isn't right, so I'm wondering if this is a bug that everyone is experiencing. U9W5I

Why is there such a difference between Open Site Explorer and Domain Analysis?
When I look at my links in the Competitive Domain Analysis and I see I have 113,018 Ext followed links but Open Site Explorer shows 3,148. Why is there such a difference? In addition, is there a way to view the External Followed links? I want to see where these 113,018 links are coming from. Thanks, Josh
