Shopify crawl issues
-
Hi Moz'ers,
I am a total newcomer to this level of seo. Recently I transitioned to Shopify and I'm puzzled by why I'm getting 803 errors - incomplete crawl attempts due to server timing out.
Wouldn't this have to do with Shopify? How would I go about fixing it? I'm also getting 804 - SSL issues, but I assume that will go away.
Any advice?
Thanks!
Sharon

Hello,
We are looking into this same issue with Shopify, we've recieved intermittent 803 and 804 error notifications from Moz on a Shopify store. Specific to these errors Shopify put forward a possible cause and we were wondering if this is correct or not. The thread on Shopify is located here:
https://ecommerce.shopify.com/c/ecommerce-marketing/t/crawl-errors-337539#comment-351993
Their suggestion on what the issue may be is as follows:
"I've been having a read through of this thread and one possibility for the 803 errors showing up on MOZ is that they may not be able to use SNI (Server Name Indication extension). If they don't use SNI then it would make sense that Shopify stores with an SSL certificate would pull up errors like that. We can't help troubleshoot MOZ's service directly, but that could be a good place to start with some of these errors."
Would you be able to offer any feedback on this being the cause of the errors?
Thanks!

Hi Marcus,
Thank you for pointing me in the right direction!
I understand more about the errors, and will be more informed when I speak with Shopify. I don't have any way of checking this myself & it is above my pay grade, anyway.
I noticed this was a topic on the Shopify forum discussion groups. The discussion didn't last too long which leads me to believe either:
1. people give up, or
2. it ends up resolved. We'll see. In any event, thank you for taking the time to respond. I have just started using MOZ and I'm very impressed with this community!

Why did Moz crawl our development site?
In our Moz Pro account we have one campaign set up to track our main domain. This week Moz threw up around 400 new crawl errors, 99% of which were meta noindex issues. What happened was that somehow Moz found the development/staging site and decided to crawl that. I have no idea how it was able to do this - the robots.txt is set to disallow all and there is password protection on the site. It looks like Moz ignored the robots.txt, but I still don't have any idea how it was able to do a crawl - it should have received a 401 Forbidden and not gone any further. How do I a) clean this up without going through and manually ignoring each issue, and b) stop this from happening again? Thanks!

Unable to get into top 20 even when pages are optimized and most crawl issues resolved
I have a few keyword phrases I've been trying to rank in the top 20 for (starting place). I have optimized for a few different phrases, ranging in keyword difficulty, but no matter what I do I can't seem to get in. In many cases, the exact same results show up for many different variations of the phrases I'd like to rank for. I've read about how google tries to match user intent and so if it decides those results are more relevant then it will always show them, but does that mean that no matter what I do I will always be behind them? The main question I have is: how should I proceed? Should I stop optimizing pages and focus on link acquisition? Or go through and make sure there isn't a single crawl issue? Or focus on optimizing for longer tail keyword phrases? It just feels like I've done so much of what the moz tools have recommended and I'm seeing very little movement over the past couple of months, if anything I see dips in performance after optimization. Thanks in advance!

Initiate crawl
Anyway to start the crawl of a site immediately after changes have been made? Or must you wait for the next scheduled crawl? Thanks.

Is it possible to override the 10k pages crawl limit on PRO?
Hi There, Just signed up for PRO and I love it! We have a particularly large website (tons of content) and the 10,000 page limit is holding us back from getting really exhaustive analysis. Is there any way to up the limit for a single crawl? Thanks!

Adjusting SEOmoz Crawling Speed
How do you adjust the SEOmoz crawling speed? SEOmoz tried to crawl 10,000 pages in 3 hours and crashed our MySQL server.

20000 site errors and 10000 pages crawled.
I have recently built an e-commerce website for the company I work at. Its built on opencart. Say for example we have a chair for sale. The url will be: www.domain.com/best-offers/cool-chair Thats fine, seomoz is crawling them all fine and reporting any errors under them url great. On each product listing we have several options and zoom options (allows the user to zoom in to the image to get a more detailed look). When a different zoom type is selected it adds on to the url, so for example: www.domain.com/best-offers/cool-chair?zoom=1 and there are 3 different zoom types. So effectively its taking for urls as different when in fact they are all one url. and Seomoz has interpreted it this way, and crawled 10000 pages(it thinks exist because of this) and thrown up 20000 errors. Does anyone have any idea how to solve this?
