Error Code 804: HTTPS (SSL) Error Encountered
-
I'm seeing the following error in Moz as below. I have not seen any errors when crawling with different tools - is this common or is it something that needs to be looked at. SO far I only have info below. Assuming I would need to open a ticket with hosting provider for this?
Thanks!
Error Code 804: HTTPS (SSL) Error Encountered
Your page requires an SSL security certificate to load (using HTTPS), but the Moz Crawler encountered an error when trying to load the certificate. Our crawler is pretty standard, so it's likely that other browsers and crawlers may also encounter this error. If you have this error on your homepage, it prevents the Moz crawler (and some search engines) from crawling the rest of your site.

Hi there - Kristina from Moz's Help Team here.
Unfortunately at this time our crawler isn't compatible with Server Name Indication (SNI), which appears to be in use on your site. In general, SNI is a totally acceptable security configuration, but our crawler simply isn't equipped to be able to handle these settings.

If you are able to disable the SNI configuration on your site, then we should be able to crawl it normally. While it's something that we'd love to be able to accommodate for the future, we don't yet have the resources to be able to make those changes.
I found this thread in our Community Q&A forum with lots of other users running into the same problem, so it's definitely something we're aware of and working to address: https://moz.com/community/q/804-https-ssl-error
I apologize for the inconvenience, but I hope this helps to explain!

No this is a link not a resource. You dont need to change this.
-
Thanks for example, a link to linkedin.com using http instead of https and the same with twitter - these would need to be changed?
Thanks.
-
Yes even if they are external websites they are still not encrypted like your website. I am not talking about links, here, i am talking about resources.
I wouldn't be able to tell you why that tool hasn't worked, I never used it before.
You could PM me your website and i will have a look for you if you prefer.

Thanks for the reply - I have run the site through https://www.jitbit.com/sslcheck/ and do not find any errors though.
Does it matter if http:// is used for external sites though?

Hi w4rdy,
This error means that you have an "https" page (or pages) that have in the source code elements using non-https URLs. This could be images, css links, or javascripts.
View the source of your page, and look for "http://" then try to change that to use https:// instead.
The reason this is a problem is that your page is promising encrypted secure exchange of data between the server and the users. Having non encrypted elements in your source code invalidates this promise. Even on Chrome there will be a warning users when this happen by changing the colour of the URL protocol.
See attached. I hope this helps

Domain Authority Goes Down After Https change
We just moved our domain from http to https. We have been at a solid 89 for domain authority for the past year, but this month we are now at 88. Does changing to https cause the domain authority to go down and is this just a temporary fluctuation?

5XX (Server Error) on all urls
Hi I created a couple of new campaigns a few days back and waited for the initial crawl to be completed. I have just checked and both are reporting 5XX (Server Error) on all the pages it tried to look at (one site I have 110 of these and the other it only crawled the homepage). This is very odd, I have checked both sites on my local pc, alternative pc and via my windows vps browser which is located in the US (I am in UK) and it all works fine. Any idea what could be the cause of this failure to crawl? I have pasted a few examples from the report | 500 : TimeoutError http://everythingforthegirl.co.uk/index.php/accessories.html 500 1 0 500 : Error http://everythingforthegirl.co.uk/index.php/accessories/bags.html 500 1 0 500 : Error http://everythingforthegirl.co.uk/index.php/accessories/gloves.html 500 1 0 500 : Error http://everythingforthegirl.co.uk/index.php/accessories/purses.html 500 1 0 500 : TimeoutError http://everythingforthegirl.co.uk/index.php/accessories/sunglasses.html | 500 | 1 | 0 | Am extra puzzled why the messages say time out. The server dedicated is 8 core with 32 gb of ram, the pages ping for me in about 1.2 seconds. What is the rogerbot crawler timeout? Many thanks Carl

The crawl report shows a lot of 404 errors
They are inactive products, and I can't find any active links to these product pages. How can I tell where the crawler found the links?

Wordpress Plugin Causing Mobile Switcher 404 Errors
Hi All, Has anyone seen this 404 error before? I installed a wordpress plugin that would allow users to switch between a mobile and desktop theme. This was about 6 months ago and I thought nothing of it. Since I am new to SeoMoz, I have become aware of this lovely problem. After setting up my campaign, I now have 1600 something 404 errors due to this plugin. It looks like this plugin creates 4 to 5 links for each one of my posts and they all return up as a 404 error. Example: http://frogfanreport.com/football/page/36/ or http://frogfanreport.com/football/page/36/?wpmp_switcher=desktop I just noticed this morning in Google Webmaster tools that the errors are starting to show up there. Has anyone seen this? Or know if this is a problem and what to do? zach

Campaign 4XX error gives duplicate page URL
I ran the report for my site and had many more 4xx errors than I've had in the past month. I updated my .htaccess to include 301 statements based on Google Webmaster Tools Crawl Errors. Google has been reporting a positive downward trend in my errors, but my SEOmoz campaign has shown a dramatic increase in the 4xx pages. Here is an example of an 4xx URL page: http://www.maximphotostudio.net/engagements/266/inniswood_park_engagements/http:%2F%2Fwww.maximphotostudio.net%2Fengagements%2F266%2Finniswood_park_engagements%2F This is strange because URL: http://www.maximphotostudio.net/engagements/266/inniswood_park_engagements/ is valid and works great, but then there is a duplicate entry with %2F representing forward slashes and 2 http statements in each link. What is the reason for this?

How come when I export a error list I can only export the first page?
I am working on fixing the 4xx errors. I have found the easiest way to do this would be to export the list, print it out, and check off the ones i've fixed. The site only lets me export the first page. We'll appreciate any help. Thanks, Ryan D. Gran --Not sure what category this question belongs in so selected SEOmoz Tools--

Historical error info on SEOMoz?
Is it possible to get a report of errors that were on a site back in April? Does SEOMoz keep that data available? There was a big decline in the number of errors on one of my sites and I'm trying to go back and see what it was. --Steve
