Website dropped out from Google index
-
Howdy, fellow mozzers.
I got approached by my friend - their website is https://www.hauteheadquarters.com
She is saying that they dropped from google index over night - and, as you can see if you google their name, website url or even site: , most of the pages are not indexed. Home page is nowhere to be found - that's for sure.
I know that they were indexed before. Google webmaster tools don't have any manual actions (at least yet). No sudden changes in content or backlink profile. robots.txt has some weird rule - disallow everything for EtaoSpider. I don't know if google would listen to that - robots checker in GWT says it's all good.
Any ideas why that happen? Any ideas what I should check?
P.S. Just noticed in GWT there was a huge drop in indexed pages within first week of August. Still no idea why though.
P.P.S. Just noticed that there is noindex x-robots-tag in headers... Anyone knows where this can be set?

"P.P.S. Just noticed that there is noindex x-robots-tag in headers"
That will do it. You are telling Google to take all of your pages out of Google. You set that at the web server level and so you will need to get into your apache or nginx setup
https://developers.google.com/webmasters/control-crawl-index/docs/robots_meta_tag
Get on this ASAP!

Hi Dmitri,
I also see the homepage in Google, but very few pages indexed beyond that, so there does appear to be a serious problem. I don't see anything immediately regarding problems with robots.txt or no index tags. Screaming Frog was able to crawl this site without any problems.
One thing I did see in the few pages that are indexed is the presence of a lot of internal search results pages being indexed.
For example:
https://www.hauteheadquarters.com/shop/rings/2?sort_price=ascandhttps://www.hauteheadquarters.com/shop/rings/2?sort_price=descThese two pages are exactly the same products, just in different order. This page also exists: https://www.hauteheadquarters.com/shop/rings/2 - the same products again. For all practical purposes all three of these pages are exactly the same content. Unfortunately, they price sort pages are not blocked from being crawled and indexed AND they are using self-referencing canonical tags.Based on pages like these and other duplicate/thin content issues across the site, I wouldn't rule out a Panda Penalty. It is highly likely that this site may have been penalized. Just because there is no manual action doesn't mean a penalty isn't in play.Recommendations:1. Audit sitewide content and determine which pages should be in Google2. Implement directives in the robots.txt file to prevent the URLs containing query parameters that don't provide unique content from being crawled.3. Implement canonical tags referencing the original URL without query parameters. Examplehttps://www.hauteheadquarters.com/shop/rings/2?sort_price=ascandhttps://www.hauteheadquarters.com/shop/rings/2?sort_price=descShould both be canonicalized to https://www.hauteheadquarters.com/shop/rings/24. Rebuild the XML sitemap and include only important URLs5. Resubmit the XML sitemap in GSC Wait a anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of weeks after resubmitting the sitemap, then evaluate if this has remedied the problem.Don't file a reconsideration request. This won't do any good because if it is a penalty, it was done via the algorithm and not manually.Hope that helps a little and good luck!Sincerely,Dana

Me too!

Absolutely, I'm glad you got things squared!

Thanks for response!
Well, basically, as I mentioned, the problem was due to http-header robots tag. So, after removing it, and requesting "fetch as google", it's all up and running now. The crawl time proves that as well.
Thanks for giving me idea for looking into cache times in the future though!

I see the homepage in my results - https://www.google.com/#q=site%3Ahttps%3A%2F%2Fwww.hauteheadquarters.com

Ensure full navigation on your site. ... Apply the indexing application to your homepage. ... Sites that use URL parameters other than URLs or page names may be more difficult to broadcast.

Can Google Crawl & Index my Schema in CSR JavaScript
We currently only have one option for implementing our Schema. It is populated in the JSON which is rendered by JavaScript on the CLIENT side. I've heard tons of mixed reviews about if this will work or not. So, does anyone know for sure if this will or will not work. Also, how can I build a test to see if it does or does not work?

Organic Listings showing Google Tag Manager + Google Page Title...?
I'm a bit stumped with this. I optimise all my titles etc for Australia - and now the organic liatings are showing something strange. For example ( we sell health supplements ) Meta title = "My Product , Buy Online Australia" If I type "My Product" - the title in the organic listings says "My Product - My Company Limited" - and the only place I can see it getting that from is a combination of Meta Data used in Google Tag Manager + the Name on my Google places page. This is much more obvious for categories.. but it's a pain in the butt. If I type "My Product Australia" Then the original "My Product , Buy Online Australia" comes up. Any ideas on policy etc? I have taken the "Limited" off the Google business page - so hopefully this will change over time - but I can't find any information on why google would do something like this. If you had shed any light on this - would be much appreciated.

How long does google index old urls?
Hey guys, We are currently in the process of redesigning a site but in two phases as the timeline issues. So there will be up to a 4 week gap between the 1st and 2nd set of redirects. These urls will be idle 4 weeks before the phase content is ready. What effect if any will this have on the domain and page authority? Thanks Rob

Pipe ("|") in my website's title is being replaced with ":" in Google results
Hi , One of the websites I'm promoting and working on is www.pau-brasil.co.il.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Kadel
It's wordpress-based website and as you can see the html's Title is "PauBrasil | some hebrew slogan".
(Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/2f80EEY.gif)
When I'm searching for "PauBrasil" (Which is the brand's name) , one of the results google shows is "PauBrasil: Some Hebrew Slogan" (Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/eJxNHrO.gif ) Why does the pipe is being replaced with ":" ?
And not just that , as you can see there's a "blank space" missing between the the ":" to the slogan.
(note: the websites has been indexed by google crawler at least 4 times so I find it hard to believe it can be the reason) I've keep on looking and found out that there's another page in that website with the exact same title
but when I'm looking for it in google , it shows the title as it really is , with pipe. ("|").
(Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/dtsbZV2.gif) Have you ever encountered something like that?
Can it be that the duplicated title cause that weird "replacement"? Thanks in advance,

Is Google indexing Mp3 audio and MIDI music files? Can that cause any duplicate problems?
Hello, I own virtualsheetmusic.com website and we have several thousands of media files (Mp3 and MIDI files) that potentially Google can index. If that's the case, I am wondering if that could cause any "duplicate" issues of some sort since many of such media files have exact file names or same meta information inside. Any thoughts about this issue are very welcome! Thank you in advance to anyone.

Disallowed Pages Still Showing Up in Google Index. What do we do?
We recently disallowed a wide variety of pages for www.udemy.com which we do not want google indexing (e.g., /tags or /lectures). Basically we don't want to spread our link juice around to all these pages that are never going to rank. We want to keep it focused on our core pages which are for our courses. We've added them as disallows in robots.txt, but after 2-3 weeks google is still showing them in it's index. When we lookup "site: udemy.com", for example, Google currently shows ~650,000 pages indexed... when really it should only be showing ~5,000 pages indexed. As another example, if you search for "site:udemy.com/tag", google shows 129,000 results. We've definitely added "/tag" into our robots.txt properly, so this should not be happening... Google showed be showing 0 results. Any ideas re: how we get Google to pay attention and re-index our site properly?
