Hi,
I have generated a dynamic sitemap and submit it in search console, but there is a huge gap between the number of submitted pages and the number of indexed pages.
143,206 URLs submitted 2,151 URLs indexedwhy we have this gap and what should I do to reduce it?

If your site is relatively new or you've only just added your sitemap to Google Search Console then it will take a while for you'll see this number go up. What you can do though is check our your Crawl Stats in Google Search Console. There you can find out how many pages Google is currently crawling daily on your site. If this number is very low, then you need to find ways to get more authority to your pages so Google will find it worthwhile to index these pages as well. You have a limited crawl budget and if that's relatively low then it could take a while before Google will index all these pages as they just haven't found them before you submitted the sitemap.

Submitted pages are those pages we've submitted to Google from the Sitemap on your website. Indexed pages are those pages Google finds by spidering or crawling your website naturally. It is not uncommon for your Indexed pages to be lower than your Submitted pages. Yes, ideally want your Indexed pages to be just as much as the Submittedpages. The tricky part is knowing which pages are not indexed!
However, there are things you can do to improve these Indexed pages, namely:
- Getting more websites to link to the pages in your website.
- Adding unique content to all the pages in your site and modifying the all important SEO tags.

How important is it for a sitemap to include all individual urls for the paginated content. Assuming the rel next and prev tags are set up would it be ok to just have the page 1 in the sitemap ?

Will sitemap generated in Yoast for a combined wordpress/magento site map entire site ?
Hi For an ecommerce site thats been developed via a combination of wordpress and magento and has yoast installed, will the sitemap (& other yoast features) map (& apply to) the entire site or just wordpress aspects ? In other words does one need to do anything else to have a full sitemap for a combined magento/wordpress site or will Yoast cover it all ? Should I include tags in sitemap?
Hello All, I was wondering if you should include tags and categories in your sitemap. In the past on previous blogs I have always left tags and categories out. The reason for this is a good friend of mine who has been doing SEO for a long time and inhouse always told me that this would result in duplicate content. I thought that it would be a great idea to get some input from the SEOmoz community as this obviously has a big affect on your blog and the number of pages indexed. Any help would be great. Do we need to manually submit a sitemap every time, or can we host it on our site as /sitemap and Google will see & crawl it?
I realized we don't have a sitemap in place, so we're going to get one built. Once we do, I'll submit it manually to Google via Webmaster tools. However, we have a very dynamic site with content constantly being added. Will I need to keep manually re-submitting the sitemap to Google? Or could we have the continually updating sitemap live on our site at /sitemap and the crawlers will just pick it up from there? I noticed this is what SEOmoz does at http://www.seomoz.org/sitemap.

Include pagination in sitemap.xml?
Curious on peoples thoughts around this. Since restructuring our site we have seen a massive uplift in pages indexed and organic traffic with our pagination. But we haven't yet included a sitemap.xml. It's an ancient site that never had one. Given that Google seems to be loving us right now, do we even need a sitemap.xml - aside from the analytical benefis in WM Tools? Would you include pagination URL's (don't worry, we have no duplicate content) in the sitemap.xml? Cheers.

Is "last modified" time in XML Sitemaps important?
My Tech lead is concerned that his use of a script to generate XML sitemaps for some client sites may be causing negative issues for those sites. His concern centers around the fact that the script generates a sitemap which indicates that every URL page in the site was last modified at the exact same date and time. I have never heard anything to indicate that this might be a problem, but I do know that the sitemaps I generate for other client sites can choose server response or not. What is the best way to generate the sitemap? Last mod from actual time modified, or all set at one date and time?
