Do links from such sites as TripAdvisor give any weight or support for SEO

And what about other sites like quora or other niche forums/blogs where one might leave answers, with a link to their profile, which has a link back to the owner's website?

OK - thank you, good to know.
-
There are sites like that. For example, this one.
Moz will remove the "nofollow" from your profile and first custom URL once you accrue 200 mozPoints, presumably because you have shown yourself to be a trusted contributor.
The question remains however as to how much this is worth in Google's eyes. Since I work for a financial publishing company those links probably are not as useful as they might be to someone who works for an SEO company, since they are not directly relevant.
Guest posting and commenting used to be big link-building strategies, but not so much anymore.

Thank you Linda. My first reaction was why not incentivize authorities within particular industries to comment and answer questions on such a sites with link juice, but it makes sense now that people would try to take advantage
And I guess it would asking too much for publishers of such forums/review sites to give link juice for approved authors...? Maybe then I'm think more of a reputable news publication...

right of course nofollow
thank you. -
OK thank you - that helps clarify my questions. So while the link may not carry weight if you were to gain traffic to the website, along with smart link building, that could be of help. If I'm understanding your response.
Thanks again - much appreciated!

Take it on a site by site basis. Most of these sites have nofollowed all self-created links because of spammers and people trying to use the platform for link building. Shoot, I just did that on my own site
I completely agree with Linda about exposure and referral traffic. If it's a targeted audience, you can definitely drive a lot of traffic from these sorts of sites. I've seen some sites where if you get mentioned, it can literally drive thousands of visits per month to your site.

As a general rule, a link that anyone can get by just placing one there is unlikely to give SEO benefit. And as mcncll said, most of those types of links are nofollow, anyway.
The benefit of the type of the type of link you are talking about is exposure and possible referral traffic. (Assuming the answer that is posted is a good one, of course.)
-
It depends on how the first link is treated; links from profiles are often set as 'nofollow' and so pass no value to the target page.
Quickly checking on Quora, for example, they use a 'nofollow' tag on their links from answer contributor names.

Asking a site to remove a "nofollow" on a link to our client
Hello, We created a good infographic for a client of ours and a large tech site (DA 86) picked up and ran a story on it. We didn't contact this company asking them to feature it, they have just picked it up through other shares around the Web. I understand that, at the end of the day, it's their prerogative whether to "nofollow" their links or not, but surely they should be giving our client some credit as they have clearly deemed the graphic newsworthy and felt that it would appeal to their readership. I've emailed said tech site, but to no avail. Does anyone have any advice on this? Or is it just a case of they can do what the heck they want? I know that our client will still benefit from the additional referral traffic, but a follow link would have been nicer! Cheers, Lewis

Best SEO practice to redirect affiliate link
Hello, I got an affiliate program on my website, that redirects the affiliate link to the main site like: site.com/ads/aff_code/ -> site.com/ (The redirect is done using a 301 status code.) On the redirect process the site stores a cookie to track the affiliate sale. Will Google and others SE follow this permanent redirect, transferring the relevance of this affiliate link to my main site? In other words, if an affiliate does something wrong (like spams), does the bad reputation will be transferred to my main site? Is there a better way to do that from a SEO standpoint? Thanks,

Seo & Real Estate Site?
I am a Realtor. I am also a web developer. I want to make a site about real estate and web development. Primarily how I use my unique skills with web to sell homes. A real estate website caps it's Page Rank very low. There are not a lot of good backlinks to get when compared to the web development industry. There are millions of blogs I participate in about web development/seo. There are a lot of blogs I participate in about real estate too; however, the real estate websites all have low page ranks. This is obviously because the seo/web development industries know how to build page rank, which makes it easier to accumulate it. It's difficult finding good outlets to get link power from in real estate. How confused would google be? Is there an acceptable strategy to making this a reality? Please point out all of the variables I am not seeing. Pros and Cons. I'm not an SEO pro. I would be going for the keyword Pensacola Real Estate. I would accumulate backlinks from the real estate industry and the web design industry. Help 🙂

EBay listing links SEO value?
Hi guys, Our website has an eBay widget which lots of eBay users put on their listings. We are thinking of using that as a way to get links from eBay listings. However, since most eBay listings will disappear after 90 days, is this worth doing and also will Google count those links? Many thanks David
