HTTP URL hangover after move to HTTPS
-
A clients site was moved to https recently. It's a small site with only 6 pages. One of the pages is to advertise an emergency service.
HTTPS move worked fine. Submitted https to webmaster tools, submitted sitemap. 301 redirects. Rankings preserved. However, a few weeks later doing the site:example.com there are two pages for the emergency service. One says https the other is http. But the http one says the correct SEO title and the https one says an old SEO title. This wasn't expected.
When you click the HTTP URL link it 301 redirects to the HTTPS url and the correct SEO title is displayed in the browser tab.
When you click the HTTPS url link it returns a 200 and the correct SEO title is shown as expected in the browser tab.
Anyone have any idea what is going on? And how to fix? Need to get rid of the HTTP URL but in the site search it contains the correct title. Plus- why is it there anyway?

Hey there,
I have actually very similar issue on my website. However, it is obviously quite normal (it takes Google some time to update the data) - check the following thread for some more information about this issue, especially the last answer.

Cheers, Martin

No, just this one page out of 6. Can you explain what you mean by that and how that would mean one http url is still being indexed?
-
HI,
What could happen here is that Google decided that the current URL is unfortunately not the right relevancy. Have you seen that with one of the other pages on the site?
Martijn.

Change of URLs - Part of Migration
We are looking to change our URLs to this format /SKU/TITLE/COLOUR as part of our SEO migration.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | christwix
e.g. https://example.com.au/ac-rck-b/rolla-crew-knit/berry.html As of the moment, our URLs are TITLE/NO
e.g. https://example.com.au/rolla-crew-knit/6562563.html
(Shopify is creating a random number on the end of the URL which is representing a different colour) Is this fine SEO wise? Will this affect rankings and user experience?0 -
How To Shorten Long URLS
Hi I want to shorten some URLs, if possible, that Moz is reporting as too long. They are all the same page but different categories - the page advertises jobs but the client requires various links to types of jobs on the menu. So the menu will have: Job type 1
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Ann64
Job type 2
Job Type 3 I'm getting the links by going to the page, clicking a dropdown to filter the Job type, then copying the resulting URL from the address bar. Bu these are really long & cumbersome. I presume if I used a URL shortener, this would count as redirects and alsonot be good for SEO. Any thoughts? Thanks

Www. or naked url?
Hi everyone, I am about to start a new WordPress site and debating whether to use www or naked URL for the URL structure. Using naked URL makes sense from a branding and minimalistic perspective but I am reading that using naked URL might have some technical deficiencies. Specifically, cookie issues and DNS can't be cname. Are these technical deficiencies still valid when using naked url? Would appreciate any feedback on this! Cheers

What to do when migrating to HTTPS?
Hi guys, I am planning on migrating an entire http domain to https. For it to be successful and making sure that Google indexes these new https URLs and not losing any SEO juice, do I simply make sure all legacy URLs get 301 redirected to those new https URLs? Finally what is a server side 301 redirect? What are all the kinds of 301 redirects if there are multiple kinds? Thanks!

Client has moved to secured https webpages but non secured http pages are still being indexed in Google. Is this an issue
We are currently working with a client that relaunched their website two months ago to have hypertext transfer protocol secure pages (https) across their entire site architecture. The problem is that their non secure (http) pages are still accessible and being indexed in Google. Here are our concerns: 1. Are co-existing non secure and secure webpages (http and https) considered duplicate content?
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | VanguardCommunications
2. If these pages are duplicate content should we use 301 redirects or rel canonicals?
3. If we go with rel canonicals, is it okay for a non secure page to have rel canonical to the secure version? Thanks for the advice.0 -

Should you replace the url on a damaged page and 301 to it ?
Hi, We have a couple of pages which have been damaged due to an SEO person we hired creating a stupid amount of bookmarks and generally poor links. I've tried to get the links removed where I can but on most of these blogging sites there is no contact webmaster etc so I am struggling. Panda update as also affected traffic by about 35%. My question is , should I consider creating new urls for the "damaged " pages and then doing 301 redirects to them from the damaged page to the new page. Then start to build up good links to the new page whilst google should de-index the old pages over a couple of months ?. Just at my witts end how to get rid of these blogging rubbish etc etc. Thanks Sarah.
