Migrating 1 page to https
-
Hi there,
Although we do plan to migrate our entire site to https, we currently have only one page on our site which we want to migrate to https, as it has passwords and wotnot on it.
Lets say it is httpS://www.example.com/login/
I am not really sure how to go about migrating just one page though.
I am guessing that we need to:- make sure that httpS://www.example.com/login/ is the only page that exists on httpS://
- replace any link to the httpS://www.example.com/login/ version on the http:// version
- remove httpS://www.example.com/login/ from the http://www.example.com/sitemap.xml
- create a httpS://www.example.com/sitemap.xml on httpS:// which only references the one page (httpS://www.example.com/login/)
- 301 http://www.example.com/login/ to https://www.example.com/login/
- submit both sitemaps to Google so they know whats up.
- fetch http://www.example.com/login/ so that google finds the redirect.
Anything else?? :S
Not too sure about this one.
Many thanks for your help.

You do not need to make sure the login page is the only page that exists on https. Just make that page automatically redirect to the https version. Other pages can render in both http and https versions, just be sure to link internally to the one you want and make sure you have proper canonicals set.
This is just a login page with no SEO value/competition for this branded, specific page. Do not worry about sitemaps, and all the extra details. Just 301 the page to https and keep an eye on the rest of your pages to make sure they remain as is.

Menu interlinking Pages
Hello, I have my most important pages in my menu. Those pages are present on all my pages because they are on the menu. Are those pages considered to be linking between each other because they are in the menu or should I create links between those pages in my text if I want them to link with each other ?

How does this company rank this page?
If you Google the keyword "used iPhone 5," the URL ranking #1 in the SERP is the following: http://buy.gazelle.com/buy-used-iphone-5/ This page has zero content on it and a button on it that takes you to a category page with the iPhone 5 pre selected. My question is **how does this page outrank the sites products pages? **I ran a backlink analysis and don't see any links pointing to that URL. Also, **how does this site deal with its duplicate content issues? **If you look at the following URLs, you'll see a bunch of duplicate content in the "Key Features" section below the fold. http://buy.gazelle.com/buy/used/iphone-5-16gb-at-t http://buy.gazelle.com/buy/used/iphone-5-16gb-sprint If you think about it, this site will have different product pages for each variations of cellphone carrier and cellphone storage capacity. So for an iPhone 5, they will have 15 pages! Any insight into this would be much appreciated!

301 Externally Linked, But Non-Producing Pages, To Productive Pages Needing Links?
I'm working on a site that has some non-productive pages without much of an upside potential, but that are linked-to externally. The site also has some productive pages, light in external links, in a somewhat related topic. What do you think of 301ing the non-productive pages with links to the productive pages without links in order to give them more external link love? Would it make much of a difference? Thanks... Why does my home page show up in search results instead of my target page for a specific keyword?
I am using Wordpress and am targeting a specific keyword..and am using Yoast SEO if that question comes up.. and I am at 100% as far as what they recommend for on page optimization. The target html page is a "POST" and not a "Page" using Wordpress definitions. Also, I am using this Pinterest style theme here http://pinclone.net/demo/ - which makes the post a sort of "pop-up" - but I started with a different theme and the results below were always the case..so I don't know if that is a factor or not. (I promise .. this is not a clever spammy attempt to promote their theme - in fact parts of it don't even work for me yet so I would not recommend it just yet...) I DO show up on the first page for my keyword.. however.. instead of Google showing the page www.mywebsite.com/this-is-my-targeted-keyword-page.htm Google shows www.mywebsite.com in the results instead. The problem being - if the traffic goes only to my home page.. they will be less likely to stay if they dont find what they want immediately and have to search for it.. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Trouble with https
A new client of mine utilizes a ssl certificate, so his domain starts with https, it seems to be messing up the seo. I just ran a check with site explorer and if I copy and paste the https url into site explorer, it is not found. when I enter http, I get 1 backlink, no facebook likes and no internal links, all which are totally incorrect. Where do I start to sort this out?, htaccess, and what is the best strategy to take? Thanks so much for your assistance! Carin
