One of our clients has a ranking anomaly happening...
-
Good afternoon, Mozzers!
My boss and I noticed a weird thing happening in the rankings for one of our clients. Just in case the niche has anything to do with it, the client is an HVAC company.
When my boss is in an incognito window and he googles "commercial HVAC Portland" - The client showed up at #8.
BUT ---- When I googled the same keyword-string in an incognito window, the client showed up at #14.
We are both on the same IP. And we did these searches within minutes of one another.
Does anyone know why / how this might be happening? We'd love to hear your thoughts!

The Joe Stoffel answer is perfect, and also you can check at the bottom of the web results of google we google thinks is your position or city, it can change becouse google checks in different server your results. Maybe google changes your position in an incognito or stop from showing the city

I do not think this is a ranking anomaly, I just think the results are being personalized despite the common belief associated with Incognito mode. Check out the link below which will take you to the Google Chrome Forum post 'Does Incognito Mode Remove Personalized Search Results'. The top answer provides a great explanation as to why these results are not always as unpersonalized as one might think.

"When using Incognito Mode, you’re most definitely not anonymous; you are exactly as identifiable, trackable, followable, and recordable as a Normal Chrome window. All browser info, system, plugins, IP connection, location details, etc. are provided exactly the same in Incognito, and the websites and webservices you go to are provided all the same info as a Normal window. Incognito effectively provides a very quick way to start an empty session; but if you keep using Incognito without ever closing the last Incognito window, you are just as identifiable and trackable as using a Normal window, and you gain nothing by using Incognito. (If you want true web anonymity, you need to use proxy servers or proxy services.)"

Rank Loss Analysis Tool
I did a detailed analysis of the loss in rankings for about 100 pages on my site over the last 6 months. For few pages the SEO clicks have dropped by 40%. This is not due to algorithm penalty but one of the following reason Competitor with a higher DA created a similar article Existing Competitors get more backlinks Search volume itself is down - (Don't care) Loss in long tail traffic can you guys recommend a system to automatically track this and make a report? Also what would be corrective action in case of reason 1 and 4

Duplicate content. Competing for rank.
Scenario: An automotive dealer lists cars for sale on their website. The descriptions are very good and in depth at 1,200 words per car. However chunks of the copy are copied from car review websites and weaved into their original copy. Q1: This is flagged in copyscape - how much of an issue is this for Google? Q2: The same stock with the same copy is fed into a popular car listing website - the dealer's website and the classifieds website often rank in the top two positions (sometimes the dealer on top other times the classifieds site). Is this a good or a bad thing? Are you risking being seen as duplicating/scraping content? Thank you.

Web pages fighting over rank for one keyword. Can it be stopped?
Hey, See attachment. Website is Omega Red. The page I want to rank for seems like it is being held back by other closely related pages with similar titles. I am looking to rank for electrical earthing with this page. On the graph it shows how the other pages have interacted over a period of time on the website and how if they drop out of the top 50 this page then moves up in Google. I don't really want to canonicalise the other pages into one but maybe this is what needs to happen? Any suggestions? bWymgVt.jpg

Visited stats affecting rankings?
If visitor stats affect rankings should we be worried as we are making our website probably the most user friendly useful site in our field but this includes cutting down the time it takes for a user to order and our pages are also one page so all the information is there and easy to use the problem is this results in 1 page visits and probably one of the lowest visit times of our industry. Say for example a user sees all of the information and and gets a quote another website has 5 pages the users spends more time and visits more pages to find how to order but they eventually leave after they have give up would this site win via Google user stats?

Page Rank
Hi guys I have an ecommerce in prestashop (unfortunatelly I can not change it at this moment). I made all main activities both off and on the page. And actually it is working pretty well since I am up on the SERP for all the target keywords. BUT, the page rank still be 0. The site is about 2 years old. My main competitor has the same domain authority than mine, but he has a page rank > 0 Moreover I have more quality links then it has, but it is older Any suggestions? Many thanks Ciao Diego
