Forbes Contributor - Bio Link (Yes or No?)
-
I'm a geologist and Forbes contributor (https://www.forbes.com/sites/trevornace/). I also am the founder of Science Trends (http://sciencetrends.com). I recently started Science Trends about a month ago and am wondering if there is benefit or harm in putting a link in my Forbes bio for Science Trends? The link would be on every article I write on Forbes (150+ as of now). I'd like to publicize Science Trends to my Forbes readers but I don't want to jeopardize a bad link profile on Science Trends. Any suggestions/tips?
-
Thanks everyone for your input, I'll keep the link on there. your responses summed up my opinion but wanted to double check with some other experienced folks.
-
Hi Trevor, I believe you will be ok and may even experience a rankings benefit for what you are trying to rank for with sciencetrends.com. To be honest, a lot of SEOs and website owners would love to be in your position lol.
I say go ahead with it and worst case scenario, if it causes any issues for you, just delete it from your profile and request a re-index of your website through Google Search Console.

Hah! Go for it Trevor, this is a totally natural link from a really great resource. it's highly unlikely for G to look at any links coming from Forbes as being nasty. Just go ahead and go for it, albeit nofollow or dofollow, it's going to be a great resource for you either way. And yes, the link is definitely dofollow. Super awesome.
Cheers,
Andy

Thanks for your input Martijn. It'll be a total of a 150+ Forbes links (one for each article I write). If you think that's ok. I assume Google is smart enough nowadays to figure out that it's my other business and I'm not trying to be malicious in telling my Forbes readers about my main business.
-
Hey!
Sure, just include the link. Adding some links from Forbes isn't gonna hurt. Links from there might be already devalued anyway from Googles side as they're linking out to everybody these days. For your site though it still remains to be a valuable source of links.
Martijn.

Yep, it's follow as you can see here at the bottom of the article: https://www.forbes.com/sites/trevornace/2017/08/28/harveys-unprecedented-flooding-could-unload-25-trillion-gallons-water/
Anyone else have thoughts on whether to include the link or not?
-
Are you sure that it will be follow in your article description?
It usually is follow in the profile page, but not in the article.Well, no one better than you to know where the link will go.
If you strongly believe that it could harm you, don´t do it.In my opinion, it´s ok.
-
The link is follow, and no way to "no-follow" the link from what I can tell. I agree it is natural in that I am linking to my main business in my Forbes bio. However, I don't want Google to see it as spammy because I'm getting lots of follow links from Forbes one month after starting Science Trends. Also, Forbes articles get copied from other sites which could mean follow links from content curation sites.
-
Hello Trevor,
It is really likely that it has a nofollow tag.
Even though, I dont see that it could harm you. Its a totally natural link.Best Luck.

Why are these internal pages not showing any internal links?
If you look at Author profile pages like this one, http://experts.allbusiness.com/author/denise-oberry (THE top contributor on the site with over 82 posts under her belt), or any Author profile page, they show zero internal links or Page Authority. The same goes for most posts for each author on the site. Author pages should show internal links from every post the author has on the site. And specific posts should also have internal links from categories, etc. Yet they show zero. The only posts that show internal links and PA are ones that were either syndicated to the root domain's homepage, or syndicated to Fox Small Business. ZERO internal links. Does anyone know why this is? The root domain does not act this way with Author pages and posts. And I see nothing blocking links or indexing via the robots.txt file or page level nofollow tags. A real head scratcher for this SEO nerd, that I'm sure someone here will have a really simple answer to.

Keyword links in footer
Hi - I am trying to help a site to get out from under a Google manual action penalty - down as "Partial Matches - Unnatural Links to site".
Technical SEO | | StevieD
I am checking through their links - the site that links most to them is a local directory style site - it has 2,682 links back into 1 page (Home) The directory site was built by the web co. that built my clients' site and they put a keyword link in the footer of the directory site - the keyword was "Buy Truffles". All my instincts say that is a bad thing! But - this is what is perplexing me - they are ranking no.1 for that keyword! Whereas they have lost rankings (i.e. not top 50) for all the other keywords they were targeting. So I don't get it! Can anyone explain why this is. I feel I should I get that link removed but don't want to take out their only ranking keyword! Webmaster shows about 55 different pages in the directory site have a link back to my client. Hope you can help.

Penalised due to links?
Hi, Is there a way to tell if a site has been penalised for it's links? Our site dropped last Friday, and we would like to rule out links, as we plan to move the site to our main site and re-direct the links, unless Google would punish the new url due to this. Our old site does not show any warnings for the link, and neither does our Google WM account, the only thing we have to go by is a big drop in SERP. Many thanks. Quime.

Google Shows 24K Links b/w 2 sites that are not linked
Good Morning, Does anyone have any idea why Google WMT shows me that i have 24,101 backlinks from one of my sites ( http://goo.gl/Jb4ng ) pointing to my other site ( http://goo.gl/JgK1e ) ... These sites have zero links between them, as far as I can see/tell. Can someone please help me figure out why Google is showing 24k backlinks? Thanks

Spam links on my Backlink Profile
Recently after checking my backlink profile, my site has attracted quite a few spam backlinks with the anchor text written in Asian characters. We don't do any black-hat tactics and have remained clean in our process, as well as not submitted our site to any spam directories, yet we still have these foreign links. Any thoughts on how to get rid of these or stop these from occurring?

What Are The Page Linking Options?
Okay, so I'm working with a site that has pretty good domain authority, but the interior pages are not well linked or optimized. So, it ranks for some terms, but everything goes to the home page. So, I'd like to increase the authority of the interior pages. The client is not wild about spreading targeted juice via something like a footer. They also don't like a "Popular Searches" style link list. The objection is that it's not attractive. They currently use cute euphemisms as the linking text, so like "cool stuff" instead of "sheepskin seat covers." In that made up example, they'd like to rank for the latter, but insist on using the former. What about a slide show with alt text/links? Would that increase the authority of those pages in a term-targeted kinda way? Are there other options? Does it matter how prominent those links are, like footers not as good as something higher up the page? They currently use a pull-down kind of thing that still results in some pages having no authority. Do bots use that equally well? Thanks!
