Not ranking at all for generic term which is also our brand name
-
Hello,
I am working with a client in the indoor / outdoor wicker furniture area. They have "wicker" in their domain. However using the moz keyword ranking tool they do not appear at all in 51+ results. There was a time that we were appearing on page 1 but then dropped off.
Anyone have any ideas on what could be causing us not to rank at all for that generic term? Our google places listing does come up for when people are local to the store and search, but the website does not.

Having "wicker" in the domain is only one small ranking factor of 200+. Although they used to be ranking higher, a drop in rankings could be due to a number of different factors, especially if you are talking a few years ago or more. There have been many Google updates that could have had an impact on your client's site. The first thing I would do is a competitor analysis on the top 3 ranking business that are showing up in the SERPs you want to show up in. Some of the following questions and comparisons would be a good starting point.
- How Many Domains Do They Have Linking To Them? What are their top 5-10 backlinks?
- How Much Unique Content Do They Have On The Page Ranking? Is It Well-Written & Structured with Pics and/or Video?
- What Is their Meta Title (What you click on in the SERP)? How Close Is the Keyword To The Beginning of Their Title?
- If Attempting To Rank Locally.. What is Their Moz Local %? (https://moz.com/local/search)
- How Fast Does Their Website Load? (I like using Pingdom and Pagespeed Insights for this)
Compare those answers with what you see for your clients website and I am sure you will see some areas for improvement, but it will also give you very good goals as far as content creation, link opportunities, technical SEO edits, and more.

What instills branding trust - resources
Hello, If you look at the top keyword in one of our companies, and across the long tail, you'll see one thing. Not better companies for the industry. Not companies with better information. Just Trusted names. Trust Trust Trust. Big guys you can trust and little guys you can trust. So since everything's about branding trust in this niche, how do you revamp a website to instill new trust and thus increase in rank? Resources are always helpful, or direct answers are more than welcome. Thanks.

Everything seems right, but the rankings are poor
Hi, I'm clueless at the moment and looking for some advice. I've got a site build on the Genesis framework for WordPress. So the basis of technical seo is fine, also robots.txt and sitemap are ok. The content is seo proof, the autority is better then a lot of the competitors. Still the site won't rank anywhere near where it 'should' be .. The strange thing is on one keyword the site ranks 1 in Bing and is not to be found on Google. There are no Google penalties, all the seo tools in the world say everything is OK ....., last week for one of the keywords there was a ranking on page 1, a few days later the site didn't show up at all. The only thing I can think of is that the domain hasn't always had a good reputation. According to some backlinks (all disavowed) there has been porn on it some 5-6 years ago. Before the domainname was acquired.

New website won't rank for branded keywords in Google, but does in Bing
We launched a website in October www.butterfly.com. The branded product name "Butterfly Body Liners" will not rank until page 2 of Google, but it ranks #1 in Bing. Organic traffic never really picked up so it's not easy to tell if it's been "hit" by any penalty. The strange thing is, this website: http://archive.is/PQZdO is ranking #1. This is an archived version of the site. Does anyone have any insight as to why this is happening?

What Should I Do With My URL Names?
I release property on my blog each week, and it has come to the point we will get property in the same area as we have had in the past. So, I name my URL /blah-blah-blah-[area of property]/ for the first property in that area right. Now I get a different property in that same area and the URL will have to be named /blah-blah-blah-[area of property]-2/. Now I'm not sure if this is a major issue or not, but I'm sure there must be a better way than this, and I don't really want to take down our past properties - unless you can give me good reason too, of course? So before I start getting URLs like this: /blah-blah-blah-[area of property]-2334343534654/ (well, ok, maybe not that bad! But you get my point) I wanted to see what everyones opinion on it is 🙂 Thanks in advance!

How to get subdomains to rank well?
Hi All, I am setting up a new site and I want to make use of subdomains to target multiple countries as follows: uk.mydomain.com us.mydomain.com australia.mydomain.com etc. Now i know what you're all going to say, why not use folders as they are more effective. Well I did think of this but decided against it because I would like to make the best of a low competition industry. I want to push my competitors as far down in the SE's as possible and i plan to do this by targeting generic non locational search terms with both sites so I can hog the top 4 spots.as follows: www.mydomain.com www.mydomain.com/keyterm uk.mydomain.com uk.mydomain.com/keyterm-in-the-UK Whats steps can I take to ensure rank passes to my subdomains? Is it better to start the site with folders like www.mydomain.com/us/keyterm and then 301 them to subdomains at a later stage or should i start with the subdomains?

Ranking problems
Hi All My site is live for a year now. I;m getting tons of traffic (alexa 54k) and business are good. The only problem is that I have 0 page rank....I have checked again and again the site;s structure to see if there is anything wrong with the site but everything seems to be ok. Google just added search links to the site (megamoneygames) which looks very nice. For example, none of my competitors have search links but they all have page rank of 4 while I have 0. In addition, for some reason the site's age (days) shows 0 although it is live for a year now... Do you have any idea of what is going on? do I have errors in the site? Thanks
