Nofollow versus data-href
-
We have a couple of Tier-1 websites that contain a lot of affiliate links. These outgoing affiliate links currently have the rel="nofollow" element.
Yet, I am seeing a lot of other websites and competitors, use data-href="" instead of nofollow.
Is the latter better for SEO purposes or are they just using data-href for better tracking?

Apparently it won't be considered as a link according to John Muller

Also that was from a few months ago, thing might have changed.

I can't speak to why the other websites are using data-href; it could be for better tracking, or it might just be a function of their CMS that their links are coded that way. For affiliate links, I strongly recommend using rel="nofollow", as that is the best way to disclose, as it were, to Google that these links are paid for, and not editorial. Using data-href may functionally serve the same purpose, in that data-href links typically don't pass PageRank (to my knowledge), but they don't carry the same weight in terms of demonstrating to Google that you're not trying to hide the nature of the links. It may not matter much one way or the other but rel=nofollow is the best practice.

Safety Data Sheet PDFs are Showing Higher in Search Results than Product Pages
I have a client who just launched an updated website that has WooCommerce added to it. The website also has a page of Safety Data Sheets that are PDFs that contain information about some of the products. When we do a Google search for many of the products the Safety Data Sheets show up first in the search results instead of the product pages. Has anyone had this happen and know how to solve the issue?

Meta Data Question
Hi There, I am working on the umbraco CMS and we have a Menu page which sits under one page on the CMS. When accessing this page on the front end and navigating between the food menu / drinks menu, the url changes depending on which content you are on, however i have only one place to input a meta title and description meaning that it is seeing them as duplicate content as both the drinks menu url and food menu url are showing the same meta data. Hopefully this makes sense, does anyone have anything similair where a url change happens when content within the page changes.

June 7th, 2013 Structured Data Drop
On June 7th, 2013 our structured data (as reported in GWT) dropped from ~61M items on ~7M pages to ~13.5M items on ~1.5M pages. Since that time those numbers have continued to fall. We made no code changes during this time. I've searched around the web and found a few people pointing to a similar June 7th, 2013 drop in reported structured data. Can anyone offer any insight beyond speculation? Outside of the June 7th date, what can cause such a dramatic drop in structured data? Thanks in advance.

Iframe & pulling data from higher ranked domain
Hi, i have a question regarding iframes and SEO. I know iframes are bad practice but if you have a brand new domain and want to improve its ranking more quickly, you can host the website file in a higher authority domain, and load an iframe on the new domain. Is this true? For example, if I build and host the website files on www.masterdomain.com (domain authority 48), and then load the pages within an iframe on www.newdomain.com (domain authority 5), will that help increase the domain rank for www.newdomain.com? What are the advantages (if any) and disadvantages for each domain www.newdomain.com and www.masterdomain.com if we do this? Thanks

Do links count if they have no href parameter?
A SEOmoz report indicates that we have a large number of links on our pages, mainly due to an embedded mega-drop down and lots of product display options that are user activated, but otherwise hidden. Most of the links have the paramter href="#", because the links are used in combination with jQuery to trigger actions. It is still possible to trigger the actions without the href parameter, so the question is: Do links without href parameters count towards the total amount of links on the page, since a link without a href parameter is actually an internal page link? Our site (this version of the site has not had empty tags removed): http://emilea.be/

Meta data in includes: not ideal or a problem?
I have pages with meta data being pulled in via an include. This was to prevent people from touching the pages themselves. Is this an optimization issue- or is it OK to do?

Two company websites - should 1 be nofollow?
We are an automotive dealership that is required to keep a manufacturer appointed website. It's pretty terrible so we are having a new site developed in addition to that. We plan on transferring our current domain name to the new site but I am not sure what to do with the older, less useful site. Should I try to have both sites appear in the search results to capture more traffic? Or is that inefficient? Should I make the new site no follow?
