Great question! I would follow the following steps.
1. Create and Verify a GMB for each location and have the website link be to the internal location page "...com/melbourne/" etc.
2. Optimize Each Location's page to Rank for It's Target Keyword, for the Melbourne location page-
- Have "Melbourne Gym" and "Yoga Center" (or another target keyword) in your Meta Title, First Paragraph, H1, H2s.
- Try to have at least 1-2 pictures on each location page (with appropriate alt text and keywords)
- Have over 1000 words on the page (or just more than your competitor), longer and more in-depth content ranks better
- Drive internal links and external to those city location pages
3. Work on Getting Some Review on Your New GMB profiles from customers at those locations -
First i would make sure to have a google my business listing for each location. Then i would create unique local landing pages for each location a gym resides in. If a location offers yoga, make sure to include yoga descriptions on the landing page.
This would be just a start but can go along way. Make sure those local landing pages are unique and do not have the same copy on each page. Make them location specific.
Thanks,
Don Silvernail

Cleaning up Multi-Location Franchises for a Driving School
I am working with a client who owns a driving school. There are 32 franchises in the same region of the state. These are independently owned and run. Each franchise has its own service area, phone number, offering, and contact information. The tricky thing is, they teach the classes either online or at local high schools, so it's service-based and there is no physical address to publicly display. They are trying to straighten out their Google Listings. They have 15 or so GMBs already either claimed or unclaimed. Some have the incorrect street addresses, some have service areas, etc. I am planning to manually create or clean up each one, marking them as serving the city they are in. I'm trying to put together an estimate on how much time it will take, and I'm wondering if there is any way to do this from a central ownership standpoint, instead of tackling each one independently. The same user will be the owner of each listing... Is there any way to speed up the process of claiming & optimizing (or any recommended approach in general)?

Update business name across 150+ locations
We have 150+ locations. The current names in GMB vary based on the branch. They may include a branch number or city location in the title or some variation of the company name. We'd like to update these to reflect our company wide branding and drop the branch #/location. Any ideas on the impact of this change?

No Location option in Incognito Search Settings
I was checking on a client ranking and went to Incognito in Chrome for the search. I went to search settings to set the location and thought I had done something wrong. I closed and went back to search settings and still no location setting. See attached. Interestingly, when I went to my signed in Chrome and set the location and then went to incognito and went to search settings, then location showed up for me. This also begs a question about why Google has this where you must be signed in to set a location in Incognito mode. Thanks for any input you have, Robert G1lS9EK.png cRRlULo.png

Not showing in local for primary keyword
I have a client in the junk removal business and I can't get him to show in local for junk removal +city. Junk removal is not a Google Plus category so we have to choose Garbage Collection Service, which everyone else does as well. I've optimized the site and the local listing pretty well, much better than the competitors, but we're still not showing. It's not that we're asking to rank better, we're just trying to get on the list for the one term that makes all the difference in this business. I feel like there's a junk removal party going on and we're not invited. I've thought about a possible over-optimization penalty, but there's no G warning or message and we use fewer keywords than our competitors and have no spammy links as some of the competition does. Some companies that are no longer in business are visible. I just can't figure out what we might be doing wrong. Any ideas or suggestions I might have missed?

Deciding whether to list multiple locations
Hey Mozzers, thanks for your awesome help today. I have another related question to local listings. We're currently rebuilding our website and we have multiple physical locations across the UK. Is it beneficial SEO wise for us to display just one address on our contact page or should we list the 5 addresses that we have? I have also been checking out our local listings and it appears that we have inconsistent listings across the 13 sites that Moz local lists in the UK and then across various other directories. How important is it to get these cleaned up? Cheers in advance Leo

For companies with multiple locations, does Google mind "Duplicate Content" in local (maps) business descriptions?
I have about 20 locations for my counseling company "Thriveworks" on google. I am getting ready to submit a spreadsheet and take advantage of the new "bulk upload" to manage these locations. Each of my locations has a description that is basically the same in terms of sentiment, but 100% original content (because Google has historically hated duplicate content). 1) Should I copy and paste each location's current unique description into the spreadsheet, or just write one very good description and copy it for all 20 locations?2) Does Google like/dislike "duplicate content" as it applies to business descriptions?3) Is changing a location's description likely to temporarily harm the "ranking" of my business location in search results? Will really appreciate any help...
