Is link equity passed through redirect chains?
-
Hi there,
When redirects are passed through multiple stages e.g. https://www.google.com 301 to http://www.bing.com 301 to http://www.yahoo.com
Does http://www.yahoo.com still retain all link equity from the original referring domain, and is there a limit to the redirect chain before Google starts to not pass through link equity?
Cheers

With Each redirect probably there is a 15% loss of link equity.

Hi Yaroslav,
I agree with Gaston about the losing some authority with a redirect.
Also add that if you redirect page A to B and B to C, all the authority will go to page C with the loss of the first, and the second redirect by the way. B won't retain any authority because it won't exist anymore.

Hi Yaroslav,
On one hand, there is a limit in redirect chains where GoogleBot is capable of handling: Up to 5 redirects.
Matt Cutts said it in these videos:
Can too many redirects from a single URL have a negative effect on crawling? Is there a limit to how many 301 (Permanent) redirects I can do on a site?On the other hand, being under that 5 redirects, I do believe that the authority is passed through redirections. Also believe that there is some minimum loss there, as always the best case scenario is to not have any redirection, arround 5-10% in the whole chain.
There are two discussions here.
- Google saying that Any 30x redirect pass the whole authority, just another way of saying that redirects dont lose PageRank.
- Some studies and experts confirming that there is some lost in authority/PageRank in any redirect.
As this is an old discussion, I do recommend you to read the post from the greatest Cyrus Sheperd about those two arguments:

Best luck.

Is there a limit to Internal Redirect?
I know Google says there is no limit to it but I have seen on many websites that too many 301 redirects can be a problem and might negatively affect your rankings in SERPs. I wanted to know especially from people who worked on large ecommerce site. How do they manage internal redirect from one URL to other and how many according to you are too many. I mean if you get a website that contain 300 plus 301 redirections within the website, how will you deal with that? Please let me know if the question is not clear.

Too Many Links?
Search Term is Indianapolis Wedding Photographers. Site is http://www.tallandsmallphotography.com/ Their metrics are through the roof compared to everyone else's. They've dropped from 27 in May to 40 Now. 'A' Grade on-site optimization. Either there's too many links, or there's some bad links involved... I don't know which it is...

302 Redirect of Home Page - Lost Link Juice?
I've got a new client whose site is set up to redirect the home page to another URL, like www.example.com, redirecting to www.example.com/home/, using a 302 redirect. Am I correct in assuming that links pointing directly to www.example.com are not passing their full value because it is being redirected with a 302 rather than 301? (In a nutshell, I want to make sure this resource is still accurate: http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/redirection)

Temporary Redirect Warnings
How big of an seo issue is this. I provide downloadable results for fitness events and after I pull the data I "redirect" it to a plain text file that is actually created on the fly. Is this a problem and, if so, is there a modification that I can implement to avoid having my site suffer for this? Thanks~

Geo-Redirection
Our client has two almost identical sites targeting: Australia (www.mysite.com.au) Rest of World (www.mysite.com) Currently they have splash page on www.mysite.com asking users to select: Australia Rest of World (redirects to: www.mysite.com/home) I'm thinking they should get rid of slash page and simply auto detect if user on www.mysite.com is based in Australia and serve a message "Do you want to visit our .com.au site. It's not helped by the fact the .com site appears to get served ahead of .com.au iin australia as both sites are hosted in US. Looking to change this! Thanks in advance for your help!

How is link juice passed to links that appear more than once on a given page?
For the sake of simplicity, let's say Page X has 100 links on it, and it has 100 points of link juice. Each page being linked to would essentially get 1 point of link juice. Right? Now let's say Page X links to Page Y 3 times and Page Z 5 times, and every other link only once. Does this mean that Page Y would get 3 "link juice points" and Page Z would get 5? Note: I know that the situation is much more complex than this, such as the devaluation of footer links, etc, etc, etc. However, I am interested to hear peoples take on the above scenario, assuming all else is equal.
