What instills branding trust - resources
-
Hello,
If you look at the top keyword in one of our companies, and across the long tail, you'll see one thing. Not better companies for the industry. Not companies with better information. Just Trusted names. Trust Trust Trust. Big guys you can trust and little guys you can trust.
So since everything's about branding trust in this niche, how do you revamp a website to instill new trust and thus increase in rank?
Resources are always helpful, or direct answers are more than welcome.
Thanks.

Hi Bob,
This is one of the woolier aspects of SEO ("quality" or trust).
One thing I'd recommend is getting familiar with Google's Quality Rater/Evaluator Guidelines: https://static.googleusercontent.com/media/www.google.com/en//insidesearch/howsearchworks/assets/searchqualityevaluatorguidelines.pdf
These are the guidelines they provide to their ~10k human search quality raters - this is the group they use to review potential changes to their search results to gather qualitative data on those results.
You'll see that there's not much "hard" data to go on here, but one way we've measured this and made it actionable at Distilled is by running surveys that we can deploy via SurveyMonkey+Amazon Mechanical Turk to get some sense of how the "average user" would rate a site across some of these points.
Here's a blog post that walks through the process: https://www.distilled.net/blog/seo/replicate-googles-panda-questionnaire-processing/
There are no universally-applicable tips here, but trust elements like badges, aggregate user reviews, testimonials, etc are good places to start. Depending on the niche, if you're dealing with "YMYL" (Your Money Or Your Life) topics, basically any advice that could have a serious impact on a person's quality of life, Google has made big shifts recently (see: "Medic" update) to prefer sites where the "experts" running them or publishing content have clean, established reputations in the space (not just accolades displayed on the site itself but elsewhere on the web). This seems to have been particularly important for sites that are offering both advice and selling "solutions" related to that advice (for example, a medical advice blog that's connected to an ecommerce site that sells dietary supplements).
Hope this helps!
Best,
Mike

My competitor is ranking above me for a branded search in Google. How can I come back on top?
I work with an organization that is ranking #2 for a branded search term, second to a competitor. They have zero similarity between their names, and we've worked with them to up their SEO game around all major areas (one drawback: SquareSpace is killing their site speed). Their DA is 59, the competitor's DA is 77. What are some smart, specific ways that we can help our client come back out on top?

Brand on Google Knowledge Panel
Hi, I have a question that maybe someone can give me some insight, as I haven't been able to get any kind of solution by Google My Business support so far for several months. Our brand "neakriti" is a news organization located in Greece. If you search the brand "neakriti", you get all the results as normal, but the "Knowledge Panel" on the right of the search appears empty. However, if you search the brand as "neakriti.gr" on google search, it appears on the Knowledge Panel. I have been talking about this on the phone support of Google My Business for months now (more than a year), and I get responses like, "give it some more time and it will appear on neakriti results too". We are authority for the keyword "neakriti", and it is our site that appears first. Our website is linked to the business profile too. I have claimed the business, I have filled all its information, with daily posts specifically for the knowledge panel and so on. Is there any suggestion as to why we are unable to show up with just the brand name on the knowledge panel, or suggestions for actions we can possibly take?

Changing Brand and Domain Name - SEO Impacts
Hi everyone I'm hoping a few of you can help me out... We're an online-one retailer and we're currently looking at rebranding.
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | piazza
This is for commercial reasons: Our current name is difficult for customers to spell It's not wholly representative of what we now offer We want to push offline and social marketing to help increase or DA In a nutshell, our current name implies 'cheap' and we're moving more upmarket.
Our DA is only 10, and a re-brand will make our brand more marketable.
A stronger brand and DA will help us climb up the rankings quickly - last year we ranked no 1 for a relatively competitive term before dropping a few places. In terms of current traffic: 30% is via SEO (we have a low DA but rank ok for certain phrases) 70% is via adwords We had our website redesigned last year and it performs well.
The idea is to have a new brand logo and colours and move to a new domain.
We will keep all our existing products and content. Please could anyone let me know the implications of this move?
What are potential pitfalls, and what will we need to do to alert Google?
I have read about 301 redirects, would these be required? As always, any help is very much appreciated. Many thanks Abs0 -
Is re-branding safe?
I am not entirely pleased with my website's name and have been willing to change it for years. I feel it is not brand-able. But since its an old domain name and overall figures of DA, PR, Moz score etc. are very good, I have been wary of changing the name and doing a 301 permanent re-direct from the existing name to the new one. Please suggest me if I should go for it. If yes, what are the best practices to go about it.

Relevancy of backlinks for scholarship resource
Hello, We want to build a niche scholarship tool for our Ecommerce site. It will sort through relevant scholarships for a certain demographic, say, Hispanic engineering students for example. My question is: If the tool's focus is Hispanic engineering scholarships, and we sell supplies that are in the same general category as products that engineers use, will the backlinks we gain from people linking to our tool be relevant. The main reason I ask is that I think most backlinks will be from Hispanic sites, and I don't know if there will be enough relevance to make the links help. What are your thoughts on this?

My brand is not ranking on Android Google SERPs
In the new blog post here, she links to mobilemoxie, a site which allows you to do searches on various different smartphones. I tried a search for my brand, "ixl.com" on an iPhone 4 and a Android phone, the Motorola Droid X. On the iPhone, our brand appears in #1 like normal, but on the Android phone, our result doesn't appear on the first page. Any ideas as to why this would be the case? We're currently developing a mobile version of our site but we don't have one yet. Could that be the issue?

Do Google use HTTPS as a trust indicator?
Scenario: Two sites, exactly the same with a form to capture customer details on the home page (e.g. name, address). Would Google rank a site that uses HTTPS over a site that uses HTTP? From what I've heard, they would trust the HTTPS site more than HTTP and therefore rank it higher. Forum opinions?

Could Profanity Decrease Google Trust in a Website?
Could profanity such as swear words or cursing decrease the trust Google has in a website? For example, abusive comments... etc? I'm not talking about the SafeSearch filter, I'm talking about the overall trust of the website. Your thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated.
