New website - not showing in Google?
-
This site was launched 3 days ago, bimcosupply.com and I'm trying to get it to show in Google just for a branded search for the moment (Bimco, Bimco Corporation, etc).
The old site is still showing in search, bimcoplumbingsupplies.com instead. This site was taken down a while back. I set up a redirect for the domain in cPanel, and also set individual pages to redirect in WordPress on the bimcosupply.com site.
I've verified the site in Google Search Console, submitted a sitemap and did URL inspection on each page. Each page is showing as indexed, though now when I search site:bimcosupply.com not all pages are there, and there are two results for the home page, one "https" and one "http." (Before today, all of the pages were showing so not sure what changed).
I know this new domain does not have any (or very little) domain authority yet, but I would have thought that the site should display for branded search by now.
So I'm concerned that something is wrong with the site, how the redirects are set up, etc. that is preventing it from displaying. Could anyone take a look and help me figure this out please?

Wildcard will work, that means that "http://old_url/anything_here" will redirect to "http://new_url/anything_here". However, it looks like you can set up individual redirects using the box next to the slash, and the box underneath labelled "Redirects to".
For example:
/contact.asp
Redirects to:
https://bimcosupply.com/contact/I note you say you have changed it to redirect to https now, but I am still seeing a redirect to http. I also see that you are using CloudFlare. If you haven't already, I would suggest turning off caching for the moment, as this will make testing more difficult (Otherwise, after each change, make sure you flush the cache for both domains)
At the moment I am still seeing the same behaviour resulting in all of your redirects going to the home page. Given that other random urls give a 404 (https://bimcosupply.com/sdfdsfs -> 404), I think your individual redirects must be broken. Which plugin are you using? I'm a fan of Redirection by John Godley https://en-gb.wordpress.org/plugins/redirection/
Regarding the toggle switches, I would imagine they should be turned off. Your site is currently indexable, but that could be caching perhaps.

Hi Alex,
Thanks for your response.
Sorry, I'm sure this is a pretty basic question, but how would I set individual redirects on the old domain to new pages? The DNS is managed at Cloudflare with the A Record pointing to my host (InMotion). I have a cPanel account for the old domain, and inside that is where I have the old domain set to redirect to the new one. I did just change the redirect now to be for https instead of http (which is how it was set originally). Also, before, "Wildcard" was not enabled, so I enabled it this time. But I don't see any options to set up individual redirects there. Screenshot attached. With 'Wildcard' enabled, should I remove the individual page redirects in WordPress at bimcosupply.com?
Since posting this question, I realized a couple of things on bimcosupply.com that I just changed which may have affected things:
- The site URL in WordPress was still set to http, so I updated it to https
- I regenerated the /sitemap.xml so that it would reflect the URLs as https instead
- I didn't have canonical tags set on any pages, so I enabled them now
- There was a setting in my SEO plugin for Titles & Meta > Post Types > Pages > Indexing where "noindex" and "nofollow" were turned off, so I enabled them. That seemed counter intuitive, but I'm attaching a screenshot of those settings and the description under each, so it seems like those should be enabled?
Any thoughts on these changes (anyone)?
Neil

You've done everything that I would have suggested, but I don't think your redirects are configured quite correctly.
At the moment, you have a redirect chain that causes anything that hits the old domain is redirected the root of the new domain. (E.g. http://www.bimcoplumbingsupplies.com/contact.asp -> http://bimcosupply.com/contact.asp -> https://bimcosupply.com/contact.asp -> https://bimcosupply.com/)
Either, set up individual redirects on the old domain to new pages (including the https), or set up a redirect that keeps the rest of the URL and then managed your redirects in Wordpress; the latter way will create a small redirect chain, but likely will be easier to configure and monitor.
That said, I don't think that issue would be causing any massive issues, and going back to your original question, I think it's now just a matter of time to be honest.

My Website disappeared from Google Search Results overnight
Hello there, I'm the owner of the Website https://cours-toujours.com/, dedicated to reviewing running shoes. My Website is pretty young and I'm currently focused on building new reviews (so I keep adding new articles, week after week, I did not really focus on the rest of the website for now).Until a few days ago, I saw growing traffic on my Website, everything seemed good and I kept adding new reviews to my website. And then suddently traffic dropped and went to 0 in 2 days (I went from 550 impressions/day to 49 impressions/day in 2 days :/)When I look in the Google Search Console, I don't see any issue: my sitemaps are submitted and the correct number of URLs are reported I don't have any Manual Action or Security Issue I don't have any Removal Request Everything seems fine... But I can barely find my website in Google Search Results. When I do a site search (site:cours-toujours.com), I find only 2 pages of results, mostly non-important pages (categories, etc.).I asked in Google Community Forums, and i got this reply about my pages being too similar to one another (https://support.google.com/webmasters/thread/44880689?hl=en). But I'm not really happy with this answer, as all my pages have ~1000 words of unique content (even if of course they have the same structure as they are all dedicatd to reviewing a running shoe...)Any idea where this might come from/how I can fix the issue?

Building new site on new web host with concerns
Hello, I have a domain with GoDaddy and current site is hosted there as well. I want to leave my domain with GoDaddy and build a brand new site on HostGator. The current website was designed to get us started. Not any significant traffic, backlinks, or SEO. The domain is not really what I want. There are 80 pages including those that are no longer in service. The keywords are not as relevant today. Current site domain is whiterocktech.net The new site will be very much different with SEO leading the way. We have designed it yet have not opened an account yet with HostGator. In addition, we have found a shorter more appropriate domain name. Not ideal but easy to type in yet it has a dash. This site is wr-crm.com. Questions: Does it make sense to "cut bait" from the current site given the lack use? Does it make sense to build the site and still set redirects from the old domain pages to a new one? Given so little traffic, is there really an effect on SEO if we sunset the old domain? Could I strip out the old domain website and just post a message on one page to come to our new site until old domain expires? I appreciate any insights on helping me with this decision. Mike

Sitemap international websites
Hey Mozzers,Here is the case that I would appreciate your reply for: I will build a sitemap for .com domain which has multiple domains for other countries (like Italy, Germany etc.). The question is can I put the hreflang annotations in sitemap1 only and have a sitemap 2 with all URLs for EN/default version of the website .COM. Then put 2 sitemaps in a sitemap index. The issue is that there are pages that go away quickly (like in 1-2 days), they are localised, but I prefer not to give annotations for them, I want to keep clear lang annotations in sitemap 1. In this way, I will replace only sitemap 2 and keep sitemap 1 intact. Would it work? Or I better put everything in one sitemap? The second question is whether you recommend to do the same exercise for all subdomains and other domains? I have read much on the topic, but not sure whether it worth the effort. The third question is if I have www.example.it and it.example.com, should I include both in my sitemap with hreflang annotations (the sitemap on www.example.com) and put there it for subdomain and it-it for the .it domain (to specify lang and lang + country). Thanks a lot for your time and have a great day,Ani

What does Google PageSpeed measure?
What does the PageSpeed tool actually measure? Does it say that a webserver is fast or slow? Thanks in advanced!

Why is Google showing sitelinks for 1 of our keywords, but not the other which is very similar?
For the term "Corazonas Foods" Google displays the sitelinks in the SERP listing. But for the term "Corazonas" it does not. The second term, Corazonas (our brand name), is not a generic term for anything so why wouldn't Google do the same for both terms?

Google Penalty?
Hi, I have recently been asked to help www.mycanvas.ie I have a feeling they have a google penalty. All their Google Keywords have literally dropped out of the Google SERP but they are still shown on Yahoo SERP. I recently did a site:www.mycanvas.ie and the pages are still in google index. The only thing that comes to mind is that the site owner submitted to 380 web directories over a period of 2 months with http://www.directorymaximizer.com/ do you think this could be causing the problem with google? Advise and suggestions are welcomed, thank you.

Google.ca is showing our US site instead of our Canada Site
When our Canadian users who search on google.ca for our brand (e.g. Travelocity, Travelocity hotels, etc.), the first few results our from our US site (travelocity.com) rather than our Canadian site (travelocity.ca). In Google Webmaster Tools, we've adjusted the geotargeting settings to focus on the appropriate locale, but the wrong country TLD is still coming up at the top via google.ca. What's the best way to ensure our Canadian site comes up instead of the US site on google.ca? Thanks, Tory Smith
