Utilizing the Moz Location in keywords vs including the location in the actual keyword phrase
-
I've searched the Moz blog as well as Q&A forums - but I specifically have a question about utilizing the Moz Location in keywords vs including the location in the actual keyword phrase. I've done both and get different rankings. For instance, I have "it company" with the Location set to Corpus Christi, Texas and our rank is #3. Then I also have "it company corpus christi" with the Location set to Corpus Christi, Texas and our rank is #6. Additionally, I threw in "it company corpus christi" with the Location set to National and our rank is #7. What is the best practice and what are the determining factors for the differences? Thank you in advance!

Thanks so much for your input and advice! Your insight is appreciated and I hadn't thought about it as technically as you did.

Sounds like a rank tracking question
The 'location' (commonly, in rank tracking software) usually specifies what version of Google is used (google.co.uk, google.com, google.fr etc) as well the origin IP address of the request (which can be city level, rather than national level). This all tells Google where you are, now
Including a location in a keyword doesn't necessarily tell Google where you are (thought it can imply this somewhat), it tells Google where you want to go or will be going. Where the service (or product) should be located
If you are in Corpus Christi and you are looking for an "IT company", your location will 'slightly bias' the results but so will many other factors. The reputation of other IT companies which are near you (but not exactly where you are) or which are location-independent (maybe you should just ship your machine) are also examined. It may be that in your current location, all the IT companies have bad reviews - and as such Google decides to include more companies which are in some way accessible, yet have higher authority, trust, sentiment and better reviews
If you literally type in "IT company Corpus Christi" - then you have made up your mind about what you want. The search results should be narrower to that area and other factors should be given less weighting. As such, it makes total sense that the results would (or could) be completely different!
One query shows a general desire for decent IT which is accessible from Corpus Christi. The other query tells Google that you pretty much only want to see results for places within Corpus Christi - or at the least, that you care significantly about that. Since the intent is fractionally different, expect the results to vary
My advice? Set the location to your area and track both terms

Confusing Moz Crawl?
Hi there, I am not sure if I am missing on something but the moz crawls are rather confusing. After singing in I have received 11 emails with crawls and today I have received again new, When I go to check there to the dashboard it shows 26 pages with issues. When I scroll down I see the pages with issue. Then when I click on the first page listed, to view the issues it says this: Rel Canonical
Moz Bar | | Rebeca1
Using rel=canonical suggests to search engines which URL should be seen as canonical. For this site: http://villasdiani.com/ but we have sorted out the canonical issues a long time ago. Is this a wrong information or is it really true that we do not specify the canonical for our site? Then the second page with issue is there listed http://villasdiani.com/beach-villas/ and it says: Duplicate Page Title
You should use unique titles for your different pages to ensure that they describe each page uniquely and don't compete with each other for keyword relevance. But it does not point out which page is duplicate with this one! I do not have any other page named the same way. It also says in Issues overview 26pages with issues, but it shows on the bottom only 5 under and when I click on view more it brings me to high priority issues where is 0. The most is freaking me out this report: When I click on links, there are listed on the bottom the pages with highest authority among which I found this http://villasdiani.com/db I have never created this kind of page! Funny enough when I click on it it really open that page! How this can be??? In issues overview it also shows on the bottom, right corner 11 page with duplicate content but when I click on it to review it it brings me to high priority issues windows where is not displayed anything Can somebody advice me regarding of this. I have sign up here to learn and sort out the problems with the site but so far I am only getting more confused here. Thank you very much for looking into this.0 -
How Does Moz Shoot Whiteboard Fridays?
Okay, sort of a meta question here... My company, a global test preparation company, is looking into new ways to deliver online course content (both pre-recorded and live streaming). Around the office we have looked at dozens of examples of companies that do video presenting or teaching, and then I realized that I watch a great example of high-quality online video every week: Whiteboard Fridays! They look and sound fantastic! Moz team, what are you willing to share re: the setup you use? I'm looking for specific direction about lighting, sound, and equipment. Anything you share would be VERY much appreciated. Thanks!

Moz analytics not updating
Okay so I was invited to moz analytics. When I received the email I was stoked to get to use the new beta software. My campaigns transferred over ,but when I began to look at the data, it said updating check back in 24 hours or something along those lines. I thought okay that is fine, but to my suprise it has been around four days since then and it still says it is updating. It also shows weekly stats of visits but the number there is definitely wrong. It said I only had around 2,100 but I get more than that daily. Anyone in support that can help? I'm confused on what I can do to fix this issue. I understand it is just a beta ,but other people, from what I have seen, haven't had a similar issue. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it!

Crawl Diagnostics: Exlude known errors and others that have been detected by mistake? New moz analytics feature?
I'm curious if the new moz analytics will have the feature (filter) to exclude known errors from the crwal diagnostics. For example, the attached screenshot shows the URL as 404 Error, but it works fine: http://en.steag.com.br/references/owners-engineering-services-gas-treatment-ogx.php To maintain a better overview which errors can't be solved (so I just would like to mark them as "don't take this URL into account...") I will not try to fix them again next time. On the other hand I have hundreds of errors generated by forums or by the cms that I can not resolve on my own. Also these kind of crawl errors I would like to filter away and categorize like "errors to see later with a specialist". Will this come with the new moz analytics? Anyway is there a list that shows which new features will still be implemented? knPGBZA.png?1

Pro.moz.com referrals and transactions
Our Google Analytics account reports a significant number of visits and transactions as referrals from pro.moz.com. That is nice and we appreciate this but where is the traffic generated from ? (my first MOZ question)
