If you're searching for external duplicate content, like if someone has stolen your content:
If you're looking for internally duplicated content:
You can use SEMRush - https://www.semrush.com/ - their on-site (technical) auditing tool, also commonly comments on internal content duplication 'as' a technical SEO issue. You have to create a project for your / your client's site and then run an on-site crawl, 20,000 URLs limit recommended
http://www.siteliner.com/ - Built specifically for checking internally duplicated content on your site
... or do it yourself in Excel. Commonly involves creating a grid of your site's / your client's site's content, then running Boolean string similarity with conditional formatting to generate a heat-map of content duplication. Doing the last one is a little more complex but it can come up with some super cool visuals. Right now, it relies upon the pwrSIMILARITY formula which is not native to Excel (it needs this plugin: https://officepowerups.com/downloads/excel-powerups-premium-suite/). If you don't want to pay for that I'm pretty sure that someone will probably have made a VBA script that does something similar

It might bee seen as a spammy attempt to manipulate search rankings. The fact that the content is in your footer, will tell Google that you don't really want users to read it and don't value it much at all. The content that is most prominent for users, is also the content which makes the largest difference in SEO
Since the weighting of footer links and content is so low, I doubt that you'd get a duplicate content penalty or anything like that. It's more likely that Google would just de-value the content and its links or (instead of seeing it as duplication) see it as spam instead (which could be potentially negative)
If you don't really want users to see something and cram it in your footer, there's a good chance that you did it 'just for SEO'. That's exactly the kind of thing Google doesn't like. It's not about duplicate content though, it's about trying to mislead Google with blocks of text that users probably won't see and read

Duplicate content
Hello mozzers, I have an unusual question. I've created a page that I am fully aware that it is near 100% duplicate content. It quotes the law, so it's not changeable. The page is very linkable in my niche. Is there a way I can build quality links to it that benefit my overall websites DA (i'm not bothered about the linkable page being ranked) without risking panda/dupe content issues? Thanks, Peter

Minimising the effects of duplicate content
Hello, We realised that one of our clients, copied a large part of content from our website to his. The normal reaction would be to send a cease and desist letter. Nevertheless this would probably mean loosing a good client. The client dumped the text of several articles (for example:

Setting up addon domains properly (bonus duplicate content issue inside)
A new client of mine is using 1and1 hosting from back in the dark ages. Turns out, her primary domain and her main website (different domain) are exactly the same. She likes to have the domains names of her books, but her intention is to have it redirect to her main site. Unfortunately, 1and1's control panel is light years behind cpanel, so when she set up her new domains it just pointed everything to the same directory. I just want to make sure I don't make this up, so please correct me if I'm wrong about something. I'm assuming this is a major duplicate content deal, so I plan to create a new directory for each add-on domain. Since her main site is an add-on itself, I'll have to move all the files into it's new home directory. Then I'll create an htaccess file for each domain and redirect it to her main site. Right so far? My major concern is with the duplicate content. She's had two sites being exactly the same for years. Will there be any issues leftover after I set everything up properly? Is there anything else I need to do? Thanks for the help guys! I'm fairly new to this community and love the opportunity to learn from the best!

Duplicate Content Issue: Google/Moz Crawler recognize Chinese?
Hi! I am using Wordpress multisite and my Chinese version of the website is in www.mysite.com/cn Problem: I keep getting duplicate content errors within www.mysite.com/cn (NOT between www.mysite.com and www.mysite.com/cn) I have downloaded and checked the SEOmoz report and duplicate_page_content list in CSV file. I have no idea why it says they have the same content., they have nothing in common in content . www.mysite.com is the English version of the website, and the structure is the same for www.mysite.com/cn *I don't have any duplicate content issues within www.mysite.com Question: Does google Crawler properly recognizes chinese content??

Duplicate content
I am getting flagged for duplicate content, SEOmoz is flagging the following as duplicate: www.adgenerator.co.uk/ www.adgenerator.co.uk/index.asp These are obviously meant to be the same path so what measures do I take to let the SE's know that these are to be considered the same page. I have used the canonical meta tag on the Index.asp page.
