Domain name in URL
-
Hi we are targeting local cities across the UK with landing pages for our website. We have built up a few links for https://www.caffeienmarketing.co.uk/bristol/ and recently advised that I should change the URL to https://www.caffeienmarketing.co.uk/marketing-agency-bristol/ and 301 directing the old one
2 questions really:
1. is there any benefit in doing this these days in that this is the main keyword target we have for this page?
2. Do I get 100% benefit for all the links built up on the old page

Hi, I did this about a week ago and have seen a drop of on average 3-4 places. across most targeted keywords. I know this is probably too soon for real data but I am going to put it back for now. Thanks for the feedback

My thoughts are that it won't give you much additional benefit, if any at all.
I wouldn't worry about changing it if it was my site. But if you decide to change it, it probably won't be a bad thing either.
****I just went to your site and saw that you decided to change the URL and implemented a 301 redirect. I'd be curious to hear if you have seen any ranking movements, positive or negative?

Hi Thanks for the response. We are using marketing agency Bristol in the H1, title metas and links. We have a number of area pages that we would need to change if this were to give us any additional benefit, otherwise we would leave it as it is

Hello! Below is just a little feedback, but others can chime in if I'm off.
1. is there any benefit in doing this these days in that this is the main keyword target we have for this page? There is a benefit but doing it solely for that purpose for a well established page probably won't give you enough of a boost to make it worth your effort. But a lot of that depends on the keyword phrase and the competition around it. Are you using "Marketing Agency in Bristol" in your H1, title tag, meta description, page content, links to the page, etc. ?
2. Do I get 100% benefit for all the links built up on the old page. If you decide to change the slug you should definitely redirect the old page to the new. Originally you did loose page rank with a redirect but I don't think that is the case anymore. See article below: https://moz.com/blog/301-redirection-rules-for-seo

URL indexed but not submitted in sitemap, however the URL is in the sitemap
Dear Community, I have the following problem and would be super helpful if you guys would be able to help. Cheers Symptoms : On the search console, Google says that some of our old URLs are indexed but not submitted in sitemap However, those URLs are in the sitemap Also the sitemap as been successfully submitted. No error message Potential explanation : We have an automatic cache clearing process within the company once a day. In the sitemap, we use this as last modification date. Let's imagine url www.example.com/hello was modified last time in 2017. But because the cache is cleared daily, in the sitemap we will have last modified : yesterday, even if the content of the page did not changed since 2017. We have a Z after sitemap time, can it be that the bot does not understands the time format ? We have in the sitemap only http URL. And our HTTPS URLs are not in the sitemap What do you think?

We 410'ed URLs to decrease URLs submitted and increase crawl rate, but dynamically generated sub URLs from pagination are showing as 404s. Should we 410 these sub URLs?
Hi everyone! We recently 410'ed some URLs to decrease the URLs submitted and hopefully increase our crawl rate. We had some dynamically generated sub-URLs for pagination that are shown as 404s in google. These sub-URLs were canonical to the main URLs and not included in our sitemap. Ex: We assumed that if we 410'ed example.com/url, then the dynamically generated example.com/url/page1 would also 410, but instead it 404’ed. Does it make sense to go through and 410 these dynamically generated sub-URLs or is it not worth it? Thanks in advice for your help! Jeff

Should I include URLs that are 301'd or only include 200 status URLs in my sitemap.xml?
I'm not sure if I should be including old URLs (content) that are being redirected (301) to new URLs (content) in my sitemap.xml. Does anyone know if it is best to include or leave out 301ed URLs in a xml sitemap?

Hash URLs
Hi Mozzers, Happy Friday! I have a client that has created some really nice pages from their old content and we want to redirect the old ones to the new pages. The way the web developers have built these new pages is to use hashbang url's for example www.website.co.uk/product#newpage My question is can I redirect urls to these kind of pages? Would it be using the .htaccess file to do it? Thanks in advance, Karl

Multiple Domain Names Point To One Site
I spoke with a potential client yesterday and for legitimate reasons they have multiple domain names, all very closely related in name to each other pointing to one site. His main site. So for example this is how things look, mainsiteva.com, mainsitedc.com, mainsitepa.com, mainsiteca.com, mainsitega.com, mainsitela.com ALL forward to mainsite.com This is being done because they used to have different sites for different geographies. Will google look at this as some form of manipulation?

Are sites that leave out www from domain at a disadvantage to domains with www in url
I know this has been discussed but was wondering what would be the best approach from an SEO perspective. I quite like the idea of setting up websites with domains without www but always worry that setting up domains without www has a disadvantage because user are use to referring to sites with the www included. Thus one of my fears are that users would link back using www version which will mean even if you do a 301 redirect that some of the link juice would be lost. I know some famous sites have used this convention such as http://searchenginewatch.com/ so think it would be possible but still concerned that for new sites it would be better to rather stick to conventions. What are your opinions about this?
