Keyword cannibalization
-
Hello -
We have a blog that ranks for 124 different keywords (URL: https://www.clickboarding.com/18-jaw-dropping-onboarding-stats-you-need-to-know/), and it's cannibalizing other keywords that I'm writing blogs specifically for.
For example, the blog mentioned above ranks for "employee onboarding process," and I have a different blog I wrote with "employee onboarding process" as the focus keyword that's not ranking at all.
Any suggestions or insight is hugely appreciated!

There are a few ways of looking at this. It also depends how old the other post is, how many links it has (plus many more factors).
One angle is to link out from the post that is ranking (https://www.clickboarding.com/18-jaw-dropping-onboarding-stats-you-need-to-know/) to the blog post targeting "employee onboarding process" - ideally using the keyphrase as the anchor text.
However, in my opinion, you might be better incorporating the blog post which targets the keyphrase into the page that is already ranking. There is a lot of crossover in the content and the stats, so it might make sense to merge them and avoid confusing Google. Just make sure you 301 redirect the post targeting "employee onboarding process" to the stats post if you go down this route.

Keyword Ranking History Chart
The attached image shows the Keyword Ranking History with big downward spirals on Aug 27 and Sep 24th. Yet it's also showing up within the #10-#20 row. What is the official technical reason for why it's in both places? My boss is asking and I'm blanking. 🙂 Just that the URL was found in both spots? B69toK9

I have a new website and would like to use the keywords my competitors are using and was wondering the best way to take a look using Moz Pro?
The website is www.fapwrap.com - it's a new adult wall decals website. [editor's note: may not be safe for some workplaces] The wall decals we have are obviously a bit more niche than the bigger competitors, but I want to get into the first page to see how it helps us. I'm slowly taking over some kws like "xbox wraps" and "ps4 wraps" but those have low search volume and I feel like "wall decals" will help - though it's highly competitive. Suggestions? I just kinda want to plug in my competition and pick from their list of existing kws..... Ha.

Keyword Ranking Report: does the organic traffic data take into account visitors logged into Google?
Hi there In Google Analytics, if a visitor to your website is logged into Google at the time of searching, the referral keyword is registered as 'unknown'. So, I am curious as to how the traffic data for any given keyword in my campaign is calculated? Thanks Laurie

Can I calculate "Keyword Difficulty" metric using Mozscape API data?
We already have a web application that pulls certain metrics about websites using the Mozscape API, but we are wanting to extend the usefulness of this application to enable users of the app to pull "Keyword Difficulty" metrics in bulk, instead of one at a time (or 5 at a time). I wouldn't mind the 5 at a time limitation if we could just automate the API calls and let the tool pull data for 50 or so keywords without user-interaction. I know that it's a "formula", but I don't know what SEOMoz uses for it's formula. Has anyone figured out a way to calculate this, based on the Mozscape API data? Has anyone ever tried to reverse engineer this metric?

Can I specify a url for a keyword in the rank checker tool?
Hello! I'm new to seomoz and excited to learn the system. I created a campaign and added keywords but I'm not clear how the seomoz campaign rankings tool works. As an example, one of my keywords 'cigar cutters' is reporting at position 20 for url http://www.cheaphumidors.com/c_guillotine-cutters.html. However, I think it would be better target to focus that keyword on http://www.cheaphumidors.com/c_cutters.html. as a search for 'cigar cutters' could encompass either a guillotine cutter, punch cutter or cigar scissors. Is there any way to assign http://www.cheaphumidors.com/c_cutters.html to the term 'cigar cutters' in the campaign ranking report? Brian

Keywords in front of the title element and on page keyword optimization
After running one of my landing pages through the SEOmoz on-page keyword optimization tool, I see that my keywords are 13 characters from the front of the title. My page is already receiving an A letter grade. The 13 characters in front of my keyword phrase are not vital, but they related to the keyword phrase. Is it that important that I drop the related word, in order to get my keyword phrase to start at the front?
