Low conversion rate, high ticket item... but not THAT high
-
Oh great mozzers, I fall at your feet... I feel like I'm going insane...
My client, 35 Degrees (http://35DegreesSteaks.com) is quite the mystery. I handle SEO and paid search for them, and we're doing great in those areas... however, we're just not seeing the conversions once I deliver these folks to the site.
The people are targeted, the keywords are sound, and from what I can see, the checkout process isn't a mess... but they are just not getting the sales.
We're currently starting to test some price points with some newer, lower cost "intro packages", so we'll see if that's one of the pain points. I'm also in the process of convincing them to include a Verisign or some other logo in the checkout process.
However, I was hoping the great minds here could take a quick look and see if I'm missing anything else.
Thanks in advance!
Jeff

Thanks for the advice... I have considered suggesting a different form layout, but since I've seen so many similar ways out in the wild, it's hard to tell (we tested a one pager while I was at Napster and it flopped, yet had success other places, so you never know).
What's a high bounce rate for a cart these days?
-
Aside from what Ryan pointed out, I made it to the checkout page and felt very overwhelmed with all the information being asked. For the novice web user, they may also be confused as to some steps appear side by side, while others take up both columns. Maybe do some split testing on this page. For example, maybe use Ajax to hide all the required data for each step, and it simply gets expanded when clicked on? Would make the user feel less overwhelmed and at the same time able to easily see how many steps are needed to complete the checkout process?
Also, do you have a rather high bounce rate for the checkout page (/cart/basket/)?
-
Thanks, Ryan!
- Totally agree on the trust seals... I'm trying to move those up and into the checkout process as well (plus doing a test with Verisign).
- I wish it was a small price to pay... I'm fighting this one right now, but let's just say that $20 for shipping within CA is a right bargain compared to reality.
- There may be something to this... we've tested different copy on the home page recently, but to no avail. Will just keep trying on this front.
- On the containers, now that's an interesting insight... have to discuss this further with the client.
Thanks again!
Jeff

Hi Jeff.
A few thoughts after looking at your site.
-
your trust seals are in the footer, very small and almost impossible to see as the color matches the background. Knowing information like your site is a member of the BBB and you have "Certified Angus Beef" can only benefit your conversion rate. The primary reason I advise clients to add trust symbols to their sites is for conversion rates. Double their site and use colors. An example I like is www.vzw.com.

Consider adding a special offer or some incentive for customers to order? "Free shipping on your first order". I realize shipping is a large expense for the company, but if you are offering an exceptional product and service, then it's a small price to pay for earning a customer who could potentially re-order on an ongoing basis.
-
Perhaps a bit of salemanship on your front page. I don't specialize in marketing but I feel your home page lacks any clear incentive to order. Why should a consumer pay a minimum of $185 and fill their freezer with a lot of meat when they can purchase fresh meat from the grocery store every week? I am sure you have a good answer but perhaps you should let potential consumers know on the home page.
-
I read the shipping information and learned you have special containers which somehow keeps the meats cold for 48 hours. I feel some form of education on this topic may be needed upfront. As a consumer, I am not educated on your product and I don't understand how you can keep meat properly chilled as it ships for 48 hours. I am sure you can educate me but it's important you educate potential customers upfront and not make them dig for the information.
I very much agree with Jason on the A/B testing and CrazyEgg.

At this point, they haven't tried any conversion optimization methods because we can't even see what would be holding anybody back.
Not that I would ever think that they're perfect, but at first blush, I can't see anything that would stop me from checking out.
I guess that's the real crux of this question... where should I even start? What do you folks see as possible show stoppers for the checkout.
The tracking tool is secondary (I've made GA and a bunch of others work on this task)... I really just need to know the pain points.
-
What have you tried in terms of conversion optimization? I would strongly suggest using a tracking tool (like crazyegg - i'm in no way associated with the company) and/or A/B testing to determine what it is that people like and do not like..

When to determine that a change DIDN'T affect conversion rates
Hi everyone, Description of test: We're a lead gen site trying to add more value by providing users with real, live quotes after they submit a lead. However, we don't want showing the quotes to tank our lead conversion rates. So we're running a test where 50% of leads see quote results and 50% don't, and we compare the lead conversion rates for each. The best possible outcome is to show that showing the quotes DIDN'T negatively affect conversion rates. My issue: When do we conclude the test? In the end, we're hoping to see that the change didn't cause a statistically significant difference between the control and version B, which is the opposite of every other test I've ever run. So, at what point do we conclude that the changes in version B didn't have a significant effect on lead conversions? Currently the control is doing 5% better than the variation with a p-value of .379

Facebook Connect login preventing traffic source conversion data. Any solutions?
We're buying traffic to the website via Adwords, and when they hit the website and go to sign up for an application (enter into our conversion funnel), the session concludes as a bounced session, a new session starts and that session now has a referral from Facebook rather than the original referring source. This means we can't monitor adwords conversions properly (or any other traffic source conversions) this seems to be quite a common problem with Facebook/Google account logins, in the case of Google, people block account.google.com but we can't afford to block Facebook outright as we're wanting to see other Facebook referrals. Has anyone come across this problem? Any suggestions of how to fix this?

Any Reports on Conversion Rate Drops in 2014?
I'm looking for some reports about conversion rate changes over the past year as well as any trends you may have noticed about ecommerce conversion rates because we are seeing something quite odd. We are seeing a large drop in overall conversion rates on some sites I manage this year despite seeing significant revenue growth. When I looked through the stats I found something interesting. Our conversion rates have actually increased on each of the three device types (desktop, tablet and mobile) but because there is a huge surge in visits from mobile devices (the device with the lowest conversion rates) and a large decline in vistis from our top convertor (desktop) our overall conversion rates are down. This is especially troubling to me because my bonus was based on increasing conversion rates and I could use some help from you to see if others in the industry are facing this issue or not. Thanks

Better Conversions with Java Script Pop Up Form or with Independent Page (URL)?
Greetings MOZ Community? I manage a commercial real estate site (www.nyc-officespace-leader.com). Visitors view listings (for example:http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/listings/303-broadway-building-office-sublet-11189sf). If they want more details they click on the "Interested In This Space, Contact a Broker" button. They get directed to a contact us form like: http://www.nyc-officespace-leader.com/contact-us?from_listing=303-broadway-building-office-sublet-11189sf We are redesigning this form. Remove much of the text and allowing the visitor to check questions pertaining to the property, like "Schedule a Tour", "Get Floorplans", "Details on Similar Space'. Currently this conversion form is on its own URL, and as such has menus on top, which I am concerned could distract the visitor. Would we get better conversions if this form was a Java script pop up with no menus. That way there would be no distraction for the visitor and we would have a better chance of converting them. Any thoughts? Also, we are using Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics to track conversions. Would changing to a Java Script pop up form have any implications for tracking? Thanks everyone!!! Alan

61.45% Shopping Cart Abandon Rate - How to troubleshoot?
Hello MozPeeps! I wanted to see if I could get some help on the best method for troubleshooting our abandoned shopping cart funnel. Maybe point me in the best areas to research, or what are the best tools to use, or an improved method for analyzing and interpreting the existing data for more clarity about what is happening. I have attached the screen shot that shows what's going on. This account is using a Magento shopping cart with a custom built checkout page that is trying to copy Overstock.com's checkout page. Here are my thoughts: 1. Use Clicktale to monitor the checkout pages in question to try and get a feel for what people are doing or why they are clicking off? 2. Use another tool (not sure which one) that allows us to monitor page load speeds for the checkout process to see if orders are being hung up by slow loading pages. 3. Or, maybe 62% is not an uncommon abandoned cart rate and therefore we should just focus on automating abandoned cart follow up emails for the customers. Thanks in advance for any help! funnel-goal-visualization.jpg
