BOTW links not recognized by Open Site Explorer
-
Hi there, I was wondering if I buy a submission to the Best of the Web directory (waiting for the new directory list promised by the seomoz team )
but when I get to the category on BOTW website that will fit for my website, I took some links already there and put them on open site explorer to see their value, I had the surprise they are not even recognized...
So I am still wondering if it is worth or not...
voilĂ , if anybody knows if this directory still has value...

George, I looked at the page you shared and it appears as a solid page for a link. If it is not appearing in OSE, I would recommend contacting the help desk. There has been some issues with the Linkscape index, which is the source data OSE results are based upon.
The next Linkscape update is scheduled for Sep 20. The issue may resolve itself after the update. But based on the information you shared, it should appear currently so my recommendation is to contact the help desk so they can investigate the issue. If they can locate a bug or tweak, it may be possible to fix it without waiting another month to see your link.

Hi,
thanks for your answer, look at the category :Â http://botw.org/top/Sports/Martial_Arts/Capoeira/
the links are there for month, some for years, but when I put them into OSE, the BOTW links are not listed for none of them...

BOTW definitely has value and it's links are recognized by OSE. There are two things you should understand when using OSE:
1. The links in OSE are based on the Linkscape crawl of the web. The data is updated approximately once/month and it can be two full months before a link is visible in OSE.
2. Links are recognized based on the linking page value. DMOZ is considered by many to be the #1 directory, but there are dmoz pages that are buried so deeply they have no PR. Check the PA of the page your site will be listed on before attempting to be listed in the BOTW directory. If the site does not have a good PA value, then the link will be of little value IF it is even seen.

Discrepancy between followed links. How do you explain this?
My external followed links over time have gone from 346 in late November to 402. Total external links have gone from 400 to 457. Followed linking root domains dropped from 125 to 102 (How do I find out why?). Total Linking Root Domains Over Time dropped from 152 to 126. Linking C-Blocks dropped from 124 to 42. How did I increase my links but drop the other stuff?

Advanced Link Report Different Link # than Total Links??
Hi, I've downloaded a csv report for links in "advanced reports" section. At the very top in blue OSE lists overall metrics, i.e. Domain Auth, Page Auth, Linking Root Domains, and then it lists "Total Links" at 1,769. When I download the advanced report in csv I have 505 total links in Excel. Why is there a difference between Total Links and what I have downloaded? What makes up the Total Links? The report I created included, "inbound links/linking pages, Types of Links: any; Links that come from: Any Page, Any IP; Links that link to: any page on subdomain; links with properties: any; Thanks!

Anchor Text Report in Open Site Explorer
When downloading an anchor text report in OSE, there are very often a bunch or anchor texts at the end of the report that have 0 next to them (i.e. anchor texts that come from 0 domains and from 0 links - if you want a URL to run as an example try www.bbc.co.uk/sport/ and paginate your way to page 7) Surely it is not possible for an anchor text to be found on zero domains/links - so how should these zeros be interpreted? There are numerous different anchor texts showing these zero's. Thanks in advance for any responses.

OSE lists dead links
Going over the link profile of a competitor who gets 5x the traffic we do.... of course frustrated that the majority of their links are spam blogs (full of words but don't communicate anything) and forum profiles. Thanks Google for telling me what not to do, then rewarding my competitor for doing it shamelessly. Question regarding sites listed by Open Site Explorer as linking to said competitor, but that don't even load when I visit their url. Some go to a godaddy parked page, like the domain name expired long ago. Is this simply a limitation of OSE, and can I assume Google has indexed differently and therefore awarding no link juice from these urls?

Open Site Explorer vs. Linkscape... without mozRank passed how do you measure link value?
Hi all, Since Linkscape was retired we've been struggling without the mozRank passed data for our competitor research. However, I've read that it wasn't a particularly reliable metric to go on so my question is: what makes a link more valuable, in your opinion? I'm trying to work out the relation between Page Authority / Domain Authority / Number of Links etc., ideally to come up with some form of ranking system where we can say: Overall link value = ( (A x Page Authority) x (B x Domain Authority) x (C x Number of Links) ) / Number of Linking Domains or something like that. Is this a good way to go about it? What do you guys look at when using the OSE data? Thanks in advance for your help!

Open site explorer - Analysing competitors links
When using open site explorer to analyse my competitors links, when going through them, I would click them to have a look at them. Almost all of the ones I clicked on something started to download on my computer and would be a blank page or the tab would disappear when the download begun. What is this? Why have they done this? Is this bad practice? Thanks

Which would you chose? Link on PA56 with 88 OBL's and 80 IBL's or a link on a PA75 with 225 OBL's & 40 IBL (Same Domain)
Which would you chose? Link on PA56Â with 88 OBL's and 80Â IBL's or a link on a PA75 with 225 OBL's &Â 40 IBL (Same Domain) Pretty self explanatory. I want to know what metrics SEOMozzers rely on most. If you are not an expert at evaluating links for large scale development please don't muddy the waters on this question with a thin and vague answer.
